  1. June in Minnesota near the reeds...sounds like the big girls were up spawning.
  2. Here is some basic punching gear. http://www.***.com/catpage-PCHBTGR.html
  3. To be honest, it seems there's less and less to do with fishing every year except for guides and boats. I do go every year to get away for the day, but I wait for the Harrisburg BPS sale in March to really empty my pockets. Just my opinion.
  4. OK, so here goes! I'm partial to KVD being from the Northern lakes that I fish but my fishing style is more finesse than power. That being said, I'd love to sit down with Aaron Martins and pick his brain on how/what/why he fishes the way he does in different situations. He is a factor in almost all the tournaments across the U.S. and mostly uses the tactics I consider my strengths. I'm not saying he's my favorite fisherman, just the most similar to my fishing tactic wise.
  5. ...for an entire day, who would it be? What I would like to know is who you think your fishing style is similar to on the professional side? Or maybe whom you try to emulate(be like)?
  6. 1. Power fishing= Rapala HJ-14 in glass colors/ white and chartreuse spinnerbait with double willow blades 2. Finesse= Dropshot with Roboworms/ Booyah Pro Boo Bug jigs in green pumpkin with Berkley Chigger Craw trailer
  7. Thanks man. Just remember, keep a positive attitude and fish for the fish that are in front of you. Always do your homework before you fish, even as a co-angler.
  8. There's some good advice here and some that I honestly don't care for too much. I have fished some FLW events as a co-angler, and have not had a problem at all with any of the Pros. Now, I wouldn't invite some over for dinner, but the key is to be professional yourself. You're both in it to catch fish, not make friends...although I've made some great friends over the past few years. After speaking with a bunch of pros, here's a few things that seem to bother them quite a bit. -Be organized!!! A person that's a slob and has their things spread all over the floor of the boat and back deck is a no-no. It makes it hard for both of you to move around when netting a fish or moving from spot to spot. Which brings me to the second "don't". -The pro will almost always tell you a minute or two before he's going to make a run with the big engine. He'll probably keep casting until you're packed up, so that means pack up all your stuff NOW and get in the passenger seat and put you're life vest on. He shouldn't have to wait for you. If your stuff is organized, it isn't a problem. -And lastly, don't cast toward the front of the boat without permission. Either ask or he'll let you know if it's OK. There's plenty of water to fish out of both sides and rear of the boat. It is his boat after all, and we need to be respectful of that. I always give at least $20 at check in, often more depending on how far we've run and gas prices. Again, it is his boat, and I feel I owe at least that much for the wear and tear. The money they have tied up in boats and everything else in the game is unthinkable. The best advice I can give is BE RESPECTFUL out there!!! It goes a long way, and it's hard for someone to treat you badly when your being respectful! Good luck!
  9. To stay on topic, I'm not sure what Gobies will do to the ecosystems of the water that they infiltrate, but they may effect the next world record. It may be years off, but it sure is a variable.
  10. Which southern lakes are you talking about? I've always been under the assumption that Gobies were brought overseas in the ballast water of cargo ships and transferred into the Great Lakes and it's tributaries. I have never heard of anything about their spread south.
  11. X2...And don't forget about the other Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River. The round gobie is the wildcard in this whole deal. The average overall size of fish is getting noticably bigger each year since the introduction of gobies. Time will tell!

Did you see Monday Night's game? It's definately going to be John Gruden. He has a serious man crush on Tony Romo.
  13. ROLO, the Lake of the Isles isn't a shadow of what it used to be. A two pounder is a good fish in there anymore...I think word got out years ago on that place and it's been hammered ever since. Hill Island back waters still produce. By the way, Clayton isn't just good for smallies. Got this big girl out there today.
  14. I find it hilarious how he calls him "VD"! http://twitpic.com/8wire
  15. Haha! Good stuff! I was talking with a dude that fished with a well known pro a few years back in a Tour event in the Florida swamps. He said they ran for and hour and a half to get to their spot, and the pro had to, well you know. With all the gators in the area, he grabbed the steering wheel in one hand and the throttle handle in the other, sat over the side of the boat and dropped the kids off! Every time I see the dude on TV, I have to laugh! Good thing a gator wasn't near looking for a piece of a*&!!! ;D ;D ;D
  16. I was watching KVD at Kentucky Lake on the BASS live webcam earlier this year. He went to the back of the boat and out of site of the camera, but you could CLEARLY hear what he was doing. It was truly like being in the boat with him!!! hahaha! ;D
  17. Sounds like all of your cheese may have fallen off the cracker! ;D

One small bit of advice that cost me a 3 pound deduction and $418 a couple of weeks ago. Make sure both you and your partner know the exact check in time(discuss it with each other) and make sure you give yourselves plenty of time to get back to check in.
  19. 100+ of the footballs we catch and you would end up at the River Hospital in Alex Bay! ;D ;D ;D Best day with two of us combined was 108, with 17 that were 4+...we left them biting because our arms were about to fall off!!! On a different note, my buddy called me on Sunday and said that Mark Zona and Kelly Jordan were just on the River filming The Worlds Greatest Fishing Show last weekend before Kelly had to go practice for Oneida. He talked to them at the launch and said Zona was staying a few extra days because he loves it so much up that way!
  20. This is true for most years, but this year it seems there was no true "peak spawn". It seemed to be spread out over many months. As a matter of fact, I fished the Stren Tourney as a co-angler on July 16-18 and the guy I drew on day one was sight fishing for absolute pigs, as was his brother who led after day one with 23-7. Granted we we out on the lake, but I saw some good ones on beds the week before in the river itself. I think the weather had them really messed up this year.
  21. I spend 30+ days on the St. Lawrence every year....you can't overlook mid to late September/early Oct.. The pleasure boats are all but gone and the fishing pressure is minimal.
  22. The ledges I fish have some sort of current...the best have current, cover and structure. But the main ingredient for the better ones is some sort of current (i.e. river current, hydro current, wind current, etc.).
  23. Thanks guys...some great pics on this thread!
