  1. I bought a Supreme from Dick's this past weekend. I've had most experience with Daiwa spinning reels, but, I'm certainly not opposed to trying something new. Many people on here have sung the praises of this reel, and for $70 it seemed like a great deal. I look forward to using it, and I'll report back sometime in the future with how it's holding up.
  2. I have one on an '6 Allstar rod, and it works pretty well. It doesn't throw light lures the best, but, overall I'd say it's a good deal for $30. It's pretty smooth, and the drag works well. I've caught a few smallies, and a bunch of LM on this rig. I don't use the twitchin' bar that often; It does work well, I just don't use it a lot.
  3. My vote is for the Spook. My biggest came on a silver Zara Spook...
  4. I have to agree I think the Gator Gar episode was hysterical. Zona is the real deal. The Muskie episode a few weeks back was also pretty funny. I thought Zona getting the "T" hat from Dance was pretty impressive...
  5. I have always been a Trilene guy, but, after many recommendations from people on this forum I just bought a spool of 8# and 15# hybrid ultra soft from Cabela's this weekend. I plan on using the 8# on my spinning outfits, and the 15# on my heavy casting outfit. Hopefully I'll like it!
  6. In one river I fish I've had the most luck with Rat L Traps. In Saratoga Lake I've had most luck with T-rigged soft plastics. On the upper Hudson river I've had the most luck with top water baits...spooks, torpedo's, poppers, etc...
  7. Sweet fish! I used to live in Boca Raton where you could fish every day. Now I'm back in NY and it was -5 at my house this morning I'm super jealous...
  8. It's awfully cold and snowy up here in NY right now. With the exception of a couple spots in the big rivers, everything is frozen up. I long for the day when the wife and I move south... 8-)
  9. Wow, this is exactly the type of advice I was looking for ;D I really appreciate everyone's input. It seems I really can't go wrong either way. Thanks again!
  10. I'm trying to decide whether to go with an IMX spinning rod, and an Avid "all-around" casting rod, or to go with an Avid spinning rod, or an IMX "all-around" casting rod. I guess one question I have is, can the "all-around" casting rod throw medium cranks well too? I know both the Avid, and Loomis have specific crank rods, but I don't know if they're really good for anything but cranking? I fish rivers, lakes, ponds...all sorts of stuff.
  11. Well, I think I'd only really be able to afford 1 IMX rod. Would you make it the spinning rod, or the casting rod?
  12. Thank RW. Actually, I have a Triumph 6'6, so I think the Avid would be substantial upgrade? I should have put that in before. Basically I'm looking for MH, and H rod that I can throw a bunch of lures with. I haven't really found my niche, but I'm looking forward to trying! Thanks again. Oh, and what about the GL3? Is the IMX that much better?
  13. First off, this is a great forum. Kudos to the many contributors. Ok, here's my situation: I want to upgrade my rods this winter. I'm looking for 3 rods; 1 spinning, 2 casting. I've narrowed down my choices to the following after much research: Spinning: AVS68MXF AVS70MF Casting (this is where the issue is): CBR787C MBR783C AVCMHF MBR844C MBR845C MBC70HF (Mojo Bass rod) I Currently have a 6' Allstar casting rod, and 6'6 St. Croix spinning rod that I use primarily. I'm just getting started, and I want to buy the best that I can afford. I'm looking to build a well rounded arsenal, without having to buy a specific rod for every technique (can't afford it). Any help you can give the newbie would be greatly appreciated ;D
