How Are You Coping With Winter?

Recommended Posts

This is directed to all the Yankees out there (like me) who are stuck inside because every conceivable body of water capable of holding life is frozen solid: How are you guys coping with not being able to fish? Personally, if I weren't able to hunt during the winter, I feel fairly certain that I would have to be committed to an asylum during the coldest months of the year. I've been counting down the days left till my first tournament (which, if you care to know, is 61). I've also built a few rods and and reorganized my tackle 37 different times. However, I'm still going stir crazy!!! :D

Im trying to cope but it aint easy. Expecially when im watching the fishing shows and seeing tackle in a store. Kinda like a kid in a candy store without any money. :-(

I have all my rods and reels as well as tackle boxes spread all over the pool table room floor.  Cleaning reels and getting everything ready for my annual trip to Florida.  Keeps me busy and out of trouble for a little while.  Watching TV fishing shows while cleaning reels and doing matainence on tackle breaking up the time spent between snowblowing the driveway.

Sitting in my basement playing mad scientist. I'm working on a new way to rig tube baits, among other things. I also keep all of my torn plastics and along with a bottle of super glue make up some pretty crazy stuff. Also general rod and reel maitenance.

I just winterized my boat by taking out a few topwater boxes and adding in a few spoon and float N Fly boxes and sprinkled in a few extra swimbaits and then went . Worked good. Do you need pics of fish to remind you what they look like????

I had to re-mulch my flower beds, it's been so warm my spring flowers

are starting to pop up! The smallmouth on the Tennessee River are in

pre spawn, but some will be there in a couple of weeks. It's PRIMETIME!

I'm very anxious to have another date with the fat girl I met a few weks ago.

She won't get away next time.

8-)

Duck and goose hunting kept me busy until about a month ago.  I go ice fishing once in a while but it just doesn't compare.  As the ice begins to melt in April we'll be hitting the snow goose migration hard, but other than that all there is to do is read articles, look for new ways to fund the tackle box, and just scratch to hold on to those last few shreds of sanity.

Clean and mod reels, be starting this in about 2 weeks.  Also take inventory of what I need for the upcoming year so I can catch things on sale.  I hardly ever pay retail for anything.  Tackle shopping is fun for me. :o

Still hate winter with a bloody passion. >:(

Winter time for me means way more time at the gym and more time for MMA training which of course means black eyes every few weeks haha. That and a lot of rearranging tackle and occasional BPS orders when theres extra money. Luckily between the gym, training, and work theres not much time to think about how im not fishing

I spend the winter getting ready for Spring.  Stocking back up on baits, and pouring sinkers and jig heads.  I went ice fishing yesterday, and am going tomorrow.

Occasional ice fishing trips, and winter hockey take up some time, but not even close to enough.  The other time, and money, is spent getting thrashed by the bait monkey.

I almost forgot, every fishing show imaginable (which never helps), reading articles, and heavily hitting the Resource!

My daughter, fishing shows, the Internet, football, and a few runs to the local outdoor stores.

Still not enough.

It's been harder this year than past. Although the kids and their new toys keep me busy it still pales in comparison to a day on the water.

Theres only so much guitar hero, madden football, and pretty pretty princess a guy can take.

X2

Winter blows.

Currently i'm: playing with my tackle, reading here on the forums, and window shopping, actual shopping, and daydreaming about spring, that's how i get by. Maybe some practice casting, yeah that sounds good, tie a bone to some line and mess with the dog.

Research and writing. I've got a bunch of papers to get through, people to contact, (and tackle to organize), before the end of Feb when the north sides of my ponds open up and the bass begin to appear on them. It's not that much time really.
