Stick Marsh/Farm 13
As previously reported the bass have moved out into the open waters of Farm 13 and setting up summer housekeeping in the old irrigation ditches and their associated levees. Those that know the lake are doing quite well, and those that don't are struggling. We have some locals that know the lake extremely well and they send me reports and pictures of how they are doing. Obviously I can't tell you exactly where these fish were caught, other than to say it was on the Farm side of the Lake. I know the first came on a SwimmingSenko, but I am not sure on the other two. I can tell you that these fellows know the lake and have years of experience out there. The weather has been tough with windy conditions and high heat. The afternoon storms have been coming on a regular basis wiping out much of the later afternoon fishing. The weather has made for some tough fishing conditions even with good lake knowledge but in most instances a big fish here and there save the day. Yesterday Jimmy Mayhugh of Deland and I spent the day catching some really good bass. Jimmy was here last week but as can happen with fishing things went wrong. Barely into the day my trolling motor decided to quit and with winds blowing at 15 MPH fishing was a no go. Jimmy made up for that with a very good day with his return trip.

Potomac River Fish Kill
"Don Cosden, chief of Inland Fisheries for the Department of Natural Resources, said biologists on the water Tuesday estimated there were 600 dead bass along with several hundred catfish and other species over a six-mile stretch of the river." I find it quite curious that a tournament for bass could cause the demise of hundreds of catfish and other species. Someone needs to look for another cause for the fish kill. It doesn't sound like an O2 problem as cat fish are are quite adept at breathing air.

Guess the weight
As good as you may think you are you cannot accurately guess the weight of a fish from a picture. There are too many variables.

Fail to set hook at short distance
Short strikes shock the senses causing a momentary brain failure. When a fish hits close range, set the hook right then regardless where you rod is. That hard hit creates a false image within your brain that the bass hooked itself, which doesn't happen often unless they swallow the bait. Don't be slow and don't be fooled: you get hit, hit back. It's what flipping is all about.

Can anyone tell me about Kinami Cut tail Worms
The Kut Tail will blow any soft jerk bait away, in addition to all the methods of use that mentioned. I discover this several years ago. We were working split tail shad and doing exceptionally well when I ran out. Looking through my on boat supply of plastics the Kut Tail caught my eye. Scott continued with the shad as he still had plenty left. (He wasnt' sharing either) I put the Kut Tail on and the rest was history. I caught more and bigger fish than Scott for the balance of that day. The next day I turned the gentleman holding the fish below onto the Kut Tail.

Nick, it might be a good idea to introduce yourself, where you are, and how old you are. The responses will be far better if people have some idea who they are trying to help.

Do You Think Catching a Big Bass is Luck?
At least with driving you can see where you are going.

Do You Think Catching a Big Bass is Luck?
I am curious donbeatya why you have limited yourself to catching only 3 bass over ten pounds since you feel that it's all skill and no luck. This question is for any of you that feel you have reached the ultimate skill level and no luck plays in this chase. Even in a game of ultimate skill such as golf, Tiger Woods will agree that there is an element of luck.

Wish I was this accurate
If you hook a bird, which we do from Cormorants to Osprey, simply put a towel over their head when you get them to the boat and hook removal will go rather quietly. I've had to remove: Pelicans, Cormorants, Hawks, Ospreys, a variety of Gulls, Terns, Blue Herons, American Herons, oh, and them low flying "gator" birds. Scott and grandson Christian with one of those pesky "gator" birds. This one tried to take my Chug Bug, but we weren't letting it happen.

Do You Think Catching a Big Bass is Luck?
"As much as it helps our egos to regard bass fishing as complex, this type of thinking is often the biggest obstacle between you and your fishing success." Right there is the gospel. This bass fishing thingy is quite simple, and the more complicated you make it, the more complicated it gets.

Do You Think Catching a Big Bass is Luck?
Put some reality in this: You have learned to use your equipment to cast to the area where you "think" there are bass". You have become proficient with electronics, topography reading, and all the other skills needed to put you in the running. Below you are 30 bass, one large one and 29 small to medium ones. As you cast to your expected target area, one of the bass inhales your bait. Let's review: you cast with your equipment to an area in which all you can see is water. One of the bass stepped up to the bait: which one? Is that luck? Yep. This is the only sport where you are operating in the blind. Is there a degree of luck? You bet there is! The more often you are out there, the luckier you will get: maybe!

Do You Think Catching a Big Bass is Luck?
I'm just so lucky - lucky in the area of having a lake that supports big fish. I am always looking for the bigger fish in the lake and as luck will have it we catch many. Lucky, lucky, lucky.

Just my point of view
I don't agree: buy the absolute best - Hummer to tow with: best Ranger, most expensive rods and reels, etc. Once purchased I can absolutely guarantee that the best thing that you could do with all this new stuff is to send it to me to test out. ;D

fishing reports
So basically what you are saying is: guides are included in your list of people who have no integrity. I use every resource available to me and that includes reports. If you don't you're just plain naive and foolish.
