Big Bite Baits-Fighting Frog
They are freakin awesome baits. I got to fish with Dean Rojas this Feb. at the Classic and he was flipping it. I went home and bought some after seeing him dirty it up and ever since then, I have been whackin them on it. I use a 3/0 straight shanked Gamakatsu with a 1/4-1/2oz weight, pegged. The fish eat that thing up.

Scumbag update
I've been watching this story closely since three of the guys were close from where I'm from. I'm real happy the judge came down hard on them. I would really like to hear there side of the story, like why they thought or felt the need to keep that many, if they were aware of the laws, etc.

Spro Frog Question
Ice, never thought of drilling a hole in the back of the frog. I am a big believer in cutting a slit in the back, but I've experienced what you have with it ripping. I'm gonna try a new modification I thought of the other night next time I'm on the lake. I'm gonna try and take a hole punch and make a small hole in the back. The frog always lands upright, so it shouldn't have any problem with water intake. Also like Brushhoggin said, it only takes a second to squeeze out that water if you don't wanna mess with the bait at all. As for what Dink Whisperer said, I gotta disagree. Everyone has a right to like a brand, but I've fished them all and in my opinion, the Spro is the best on the market. I can understand if you think I'm saying that because I have some connections with them, but the truth is I was fishing them way before our relationship started and they really are the most superior frog on the market. They all are easy to walk and they all have different colors. The "softer"body has lead to my R2S frogs being DESTROYED in just a few fish where they Spros hold up to way more. Give them all a try and see what works best for you. Good luck my friend

Your thoughts on scent
Dude, I'm lovin it! Glad to see I'm not the only crazy when when it comes to fishing. I'm a huge believer in scent. 2 in particular. Megastrike and JJ's Magic. On tournament day, I'm extremely careful about what I touch and always apply my sunscreen at the hotel room then wash my hands then wash them again in lake water. I get real into bass' senses when I'm fishing. A perfect example was yesterday when I was fishing with the girl I'm dating. We were walking around her neighborhood pond and she was basically stomping around so I gave her a piggyback ride to each spot because I really think fish can "feel" loud footsteps. I also tip toe around on the boat during the tournament. I'm real cautious about dropping things and I clip my tag ends with my pliers an inch from the carpet incase I drop it, so it makes minimal noise. It takes me like 10 seconds to put my trolling motor in the water. I ease that thing down so it barely makes a ripple. Am I crazy? You better your @ss I am, but I catch more fish because of it. Thanks for the post man

Rage Tail. Epic Fail.
Yo Dave, I hope that's a sarcastic comment. If it isn't, then I gotta ask why you would put yourself in a position to potentially miss out on a great fish catching bait just because other people are into them? I don't care if it's Rage, Rapala, Spro, or whatever else, why in the world would you rather not catch fish? And for the rest of this thread, this is amazing. This place has turned into Republicans and Democrats. I have really enjoyed watching all the little cliques forming and feuding back and forth on the FISHING FORUM.....it's cute Matt - Is it possible that this year is a little different for the fish? I know in 07' and 08' I destroyed them with a LC Sammy and a wacky rigged Trick Stick, but ever since then the bite has plummeted. Sometimes the fish change. They might not position on cover or structure the same as the year before therefore making your jig presentation not as effective. Just a thought.

Straight Shank vs. EWG
Your really holding yourself back if you don't use all 3. Each one excels in certain situations. To say one is better than the other is wrong because each hook has it's own job. I like straight shank for casting thin plastics or when im pitching around grass - tapertail, mag II, tiny brush hogs, baby rage craw. BTW, I think this hook gives you the best hook up ratio. The bite is way bigger than the other hooks and unfortunately it doesn't work with thicker plastics. I like the offsets for carolina rigging and for plastics that are just a little too thick for the straight shank - baby or super brush hog, trick worm, rage craw, and sometimes the space monkey. I like the EWG's for any plastic that is too thick for the other styles. I try not to throw the EWG style hooks because I don't like how small the bite is. I'm not gonna say I've noticed a big drop in missed fish, but I do know that I tend to get a lot more less than solid hook ups with EWG. The plastics I use the EWG for - senko, space monkey, fluke (any size), 10" ribbon tails, lizard, rage lobster, soft plastic toads

Rage Tail. Epic Fail.
NewAngler, I didn't even bother reading many of the replies because I figured almost all of them would be people taking it way farther than they should..... Here's my take on the whole thing. Ragetail baits are just another tool for an angler to use. There are going to be days when they wild action triggers bites better than any other tool in your tacklebox, and there are days when that action probably turns those fish off. I like trying the Ragetails and other brands on my trips. There are days when the Zoom Horny Toad whacks em and then others when The Rage Toad kills them and the Zoom doesn't get bit. I'm a huge believer in RageTail on days that are tough and days that are on fire. I think the crazy action triggers reaction strikes in lethargic fish, and also gets active fish even more active. On just the so-so days that are the norm for me, I seem to do better on other baits. I really think that you should hang on to your RageTails a bit longer. Don't go buy anymore, but don't go giving them away. Keep throwing them every once in awhile and see if you can't gain some confidence in them. We both know how important confidence in. I tell you, I know when I put a Space Monkey behind a pegged quarter ounce weight, I KNOW I will get bit at some point during that trip. Message me next time you see me on FB, and we can try to figure out some solutions for your E-Ragetail Dysfunction

(Softer body Mad maxx) A Bass kicker!
Way to catch em man Not that it's a big deal, but are you sure your not sponsored by them? Fish Harder is Tru-Tungsten and you have it in a link as your signature. Are you just showing your support? The MadMax definitely has some cool little features. I'm a Spro guy myself and always have been long before we started a partnership, but I would be lying if I said I never went out and bought a MadMax just to throw it around a little bit

KVD Line Conditioner??
GCock - spray the inside of your plano boxes and allow it to air dry. It will prevent rust from forming in the boxes

KVD Line Conditioner??
Ice, there isn't a chance that it messed up your reel. Could your brake accidently been tightened on your way to the lake? KVD is awesome stuff. I use it for everything and have never had a problem with it.

I want...
I see tons of people on the river wearing these things. I may own some ugly stuff (furry hoodie) but I just can't ever see myself putting these things on. I don't care how comfortable they are.

Whats your current go to bait?
Man that's a tough choice. I have quite a few baits that I always have tied on, but I guess for this time of year if I had to catch one I would turn to a fluke on light line.
-
Let's Be Specific...What and Where?
Spro Bronzeye frogs and Buzzbaits are my 2 big fish producers this time of year. Other baits I have tied on..... Fluke on 8lb fluorocarbon 1/2oz Mop Jig 5/16oz G-man finesse jig T-rigged Zoom Mag II worm 1/2oz Hidden weigh spinnerbait - white skirt/white willows All of the above dipped in JJ's

I've died and gone to Smallie Heaven!
Dang Mike, good to see you on here again. Way to catch em and be sure to get on here and talk a bit more often

First Hits on topwater frog!
Usually they will eat the frog again, but you can never go wrong with any kind of weightless soft plastic thrown close to the scene of the crime

I am DONE with Cumaras!! Need new suggestions.
Good choice. Powell rods are great. I fish with them exclusively and have never broken one.

Thump-Thump....Wooo-Hooooo
Mules!!!!! Those fish are tanks! Thanks for the pics, Steve

First Hits on topwater frog!
9 out of 10 times it's because your not getting a good hookset. You may think you are, but when that fish hits, you need to reel up that slack and absolutely knock the fire out of him. Make sure that when you reel down, you feel the fish's weight because sometimes the fish will blow up on it to "stun" the frog, then come back and really eat it. Keep playing around with it and you will get it down. There is an art to it, but once you've mastered it, you will really catch some nice bags with the frog.

What in the world has happened to KVD this year????
- What in the world has happened to KVD this year????
This thread is absolutely hilarious. I love our "experts" breaking down the Elite Series field and getting in depth on why Kevin isn't winning as much. Lol. It's fishing. You can't win everything. Since were all throwing random things out here, I'm guessing KVD is experiencing exactly what Ike did after he won the 03' Classic. Actually, I'm sure of it. BTW, he probably can't see everyone's comments on why he can't catch big fish because his AOY and Classic trophies are blocking the screen.- Frogs and missed opportunities
First off, are you using braid? If not then there is your answer. Second, think about your hook set. To be honest, most peoples hookset on frogs couldn't knock a fly outta the air. They get so absorbed in the strike and "waiting" that they ruin it with the set. You HAVE TO CROSS HIS EYES. Literally try to rip the fish out of the water. Now the two replies above me are talking about a completely different animal. The buzzing frogs or "toads" that your throwing and the holly bodies both should be in your arsenal. When your ready to pick those up and give em a try, put another post up here and I can help you out along with a bunch of other real good frog anglers on this site. The hollow body frog is one of my favorite baits and I personally throw the Spro Bronzeye frog like Dr. Pigg suggested, but you just need to try and see what brand you like. Good luck my friend - What in the world has happened to KVD this year????
