  1. My 8' is rated at 3/4-2 oz. I have done ok with that throwing some sluggos on a jig head. I had planned on night fishing. I bought that rod more for fishing out of my canoe in some tidal streams.
  2. Huh i find that surpising I can never seem to get a bite on a buzzbait till after the water warms up a bit more. I have a big selection too, they are one of my confidence baits. I will have to give em another shot this spring.
  3. I like the jointed raps as well, like to twitch it around timber. I get a lot of hits but i seem to get a disproportionate amount of pickerel on that one.
  4. I'm thinking more open beaches. I have a 8' greenback rod with a calcutta 400B i throw plugs and some jigs with but i cant seem to get the distance i want with the eels. Maybe i need somethin in between those to get the eels out there.
  5. That actually is my runner up after u turned me onto them last year:) The 128 is the largest size right?
  6. What is your best producing topwater for early spring? I have to go with the Rebel Pop-R in baby bass. I catch em by the dozen with this lure in early spring at the local pond.
  7. Im no expert on what line to use the, former posts about using a line that floats make a lot of sense to me. I use yo-zuri hybrid on all but my saltwater reels with no problems. I would definately suggest a rebel pop-r in baby bass color though. It may just be my area but I do very well with this lure in the spring time. Its obviously not a walk the dog lure, however its probably easier to use. Just a twich every 30-45 seconds and boom.
  8. Hello Ya'll. I have been looking to get a surf casting setup to throw some cut bait and eels at the stripers this summer. I was thinking around 20# mono and a 11' rod in the 3-6 oz class. Plan on spending around $300. Possibly a st croix surf caster and one of those shimano baitrunner reels in the 4500 size. Im not really sure how nice a rod i need for this application as i havent done much saltwater fishing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  9. I found an old abu in my uncles shed. He doesnt fish so he gave it to me. Im taking it apart and cleaning oiling greasing everything, the parts arent too corroded and the bearings seem good. However one side on the reel has four posts off of the spindle that appear to be centrifugal braking. There is only one plastic piece left on one post and no bracket to hold it in or out. Am I missing some parts for this thing and if so is it possible to order them still?
  10. By that i mean setting the spool on an arbor and winding it onto the reel as the spool spins rather than laying the spool flat as ive seen recommended.
  11. First of all, I would like to thank you all for the wealth of knowledge posted on these forums. My technique since finding this site has gone from rank amatuer to bumbling beginner. Which I think is an improvement? Anyhow I have noticed that the instructuions for my symetre say that you should spool line onto the reel as u would a baitcaster because of the power roller on the bailer. Would u all recommend this? I suspect I would still get some line twist.
