  1. I just got my new Ultrex 24 volt trolling motor (Cabelas has a great price right now in my area), and I am going over what else I need to get this thing hooked up and ready to fish. I plan on running new wiring. In the instructions it said to run a certain size, for the length to be ran. In my case it is 20' of 6 ga. wire. Here is my concern. The pigtail coming out of the foot pedal is 3' long and if I read it right, only 10 ga. I am thinking that in electricity, when you change wire size like this, you just restricted the efficiency that the heavier ga was delivering. Granted, the wires inside the head are not going to be as substantial as what is coming from the battery, so I know there has to be a reduction somewhere. My question is this, is there any reason to shorten the pigtail, or am I just putting too much thought into this. As always, the information here is the best and I thank you in advance.
  2. So just for the sake of learning, If say the console unit is turned off and it was the unit that had captured the wp and everything is tied in together with ethernet will the bow unit still read the information or should the console unit be on and put into energy saving mode for it to still be viable? Thanks for all of the insight and information that has thus far been shared. What a great sight!
  3. Good information. Thanks! I did research it and it looks like i-pilot link is the way I am going to go. I will be adding an ethernet connection so that I can have my console and bow mount units all connected. Off topic a bit but going with i-pilot link, will all of my waypoints that I have now, use the new puck or the units as the point of reference, after they are connected together. Just curious. Thanks
  4. Thanks all, The Helix is G-3 with di and side scan however, will mostly use 2d while fishing. Other then not having the transducer wire running along the shaft, it sounds like anyone of them will work. I will dig into the difference between i-pilot and i-pilot link and see what there is to offer there. Leaning toward MK since their unit has been on the water a bit longer then the others.
  5. I am looking to upgrade to a new 24 volt trolling motor on my boat. I have a Helix 12 on my bow and I know that the Minnkota motors are able to be connected to Humminbird units fairly easily. I was wondering if the new Garmin or Lowrance trolling motors can be hooked to other depth finding units then their namesake, with relative ease. Any thoughts on these three units both pro and con would be greatly appreciated. I bass mostly in lakes and spot lock is extremely important. Thanks

That sounds like what I am looking for to get my son started into derby angling. Thank you
  7. are there lakes without names that have boat ramps ? I just figured that the ones that weren't named were more swamp like and pretty much void of any gamefish.
  8. Sounds like I need to move more toward the North. Thanks
  9. Perfect! Thanks Much!
  10. We plan to head North to target some smallmouth this year. Our area is pretty much largemouth only and after my son caught his first brown fish at Mille Lacs, he wants more. Can you tell me if the upper Mississippi is hard to navigate with a bass boat. We love river angling and we thought we would give it a go.

Thank you, I will check into that.
  12. I moved up here a year ago last June and I had left my boat in Ohio . My son who only had a mild attraction to fishing became heavily infected with the disease we all love. This prompted him to ask if we could get our boat here. So, in July 2020 I drug it to Minnesota. What a great move that was. It seemed like we fished more lakes this past summer then are in the state we left, and caught fish nearly every time. This got him even more excited to go. This year we have set a goal to fish 100 different bodies of water. If the stars align, I think we can do it. If not we will have a great time trying.
  13. Hey all, My family moved to MN over a year ago and I am trying to find some well run buddy style tournaments for my son and I to enter. We live south of the twin cities by about 45 min and most of the lakes around here are probably too small for events of any magnitude. We are willing to travel so, if you know of any trails out there, please post them and any contact info that you may have. Thanks
