Spinning Rod Upgrade
Very interesting to see the strong recommendation for the Avid. I have a 7 ft baitcaster Avid teamed with a Cuarado 200E and it is my favorite baitcaster. Maybe I should stick with a winner? I'm still curious about competitors though. and -- I see that the Crucials are on sale right now. I do love a discount. I also have a 6'6" Crucial baitcaster and I like it, but not as well as my Avid.

Spinning Rod Upgrade
I have a 7 ft St Croix Mojo Bass spinning rod that I am upgrading. I have read some good press on the "G. Loomis GL2 Jig and Worm Spinning Rod GL2 852S JWR" retailing for $195. I got some very good advice on this forum the last time I bought a rod and am very happy with the Fenwick I purchased then. What other options should I consider in the $200 price category for a spinning rod for great sensitivity for fishing worms and plastics? I'm typically a medium power/light action buyer fishing mostly in 5 to 25 ft water with rocky bottoms. Any advice on power/action for this kind of fishing?

Fishing Glasses, What Do You Use?
I wear prescription glasses all the time and decided to go with the cacoons some time back. I still don't feel like I'm getting the same vision quality as with prescription glasses only - but, as an added bonus, it definitively helps when gunning down the lake to keep the wind out of my eyes. I wear them on a lanyard so I can put them on and off quickly and the lanyard also helps hold them in place when I have them over my normal glasses.

Tangled Rods On Deck
I typically carry three baitcasters and two spinning outfits when I'm fishing from my boat. There's a limited amount of space on the casting deck -- and, sometimes I get a bit sloppy changing from one rig to another laying them on top of one another. I typically pay for that with two or more rods tangled with each other. I have seen some TV pros that appear to wrap the line several times down the length of the rod when they change rigs. How do you keep them from tangling in that limited space on deck?

Dock Fishing
I've also had good luck at some times with top water lures fished past the front corners. Most consistent is wacky Senko fished behind the dock. Be sure to use weedless hook because many folks sink brush back there -- and, if there's not a fish on the end you've got to get that hook over cables.

Killer Curado Sale!
Ordered mine July 3 and received it yesterday, July 11.

Spinnerbaits
I can generally count on the spinners to produce bigger fish - but, the Senkos are best for fishing around and under docks. You can skip the Senkos under the dock for good results.

Bass Boat Trailer Bunk Carpet Torn
I now have two boat trailers in serious need of replacement of the carpet on the loading bunks. What material do you recommend? Is there a Lowes or Home Depot carpet material that's good? Do you glue it and staple it? Any tips for replacing the carpet on the trailers?

Plastics Hook Size
Here's the hook I ordered: "Owner Weedless Wacky Hook 2,Featuring a Flex Nylon "Weedless" guard, this is a great hook for drop shotting or wacky rigging soft plastics. This is a great hook for fishing in and around heavy cover. Features include a Super Needle Point and Camo Green finish." I can see the point about the larger hook affecting the action of the Senko. I'm continuing to fish with the 2/0s. The largest fish I've caught is about 1.5 pounds on it.

Plastics Hook Size
It's five inch Senkos exclusively I use with a Wacky rig. Those 2/0 hooks with the gap that looks to be about 1/2 inch just look so narrow compared with the 4/0s I normally fish with and have had such great luck with.

Plastics Hook Size
I recently purchased some 2/0 weedless hooks for wacky rigs, the first 2/0 hooks I've ever purchased. I typically use 4/0 for all my plastics but read somewhere that the 2/0s were recommended. When I received the 2/0s I was concerned that there was not enough gap to hook up with a good size bass. I've used them and had pretty good success with the wacky rigs -- but, I still think I'd feel more comfortable with the 4/0s. What do you use with your wacky rigs?

Cxx Is Out, Now What?
I vote for the Yo Zuri Hybrid. No matter what I try I keep coming back to it - 12 lb test for baitcaster and 8 lb test for the spinning rigs.

Sight Fishing
I'm getting much more attuned to seeing bass. I caught my first "sight fishing" bass recently. I saw it and pitched a craw under its nose and saw him grab it and run. What great fun to get to see him take it. But, since then I must have seen more than a dozen bass and no matter what I send their way they just don't seem to care. Most are right against the bank or a wall. I show them plastics, top water, spinners -- and, they just don't seem to care. What can I do to tempt these bass into hitting?

Lakeshore Property
You only need a 40 ft bass boat on the weekends and holidays. The week days are nice if you can fish those days. It's hard to get that 40 footer between the docks too!

Reel Differences
I carry two spinning outfits and three baitcasters (BCs) when I go out. Fishing here in Missouri winds the BCs with heavier lures are the way to go; however, when the winds are quiet, when fishing behind docks or for drop shot the spinning rigs are my preference. PS - I just got the 7 ft St Croix Avid Med/Fast and teamed it with one of my two Curado E7s and I love it!

Love My New Avid
I just received my new St Croix Avid 7'0" MF and teamed it with one of my two Curado E7s. I don't know if it's optimum because all the different rod choices are confusing to me but I used it yesterday with my "go to" top water "Devil's Horse." I worked down a clay bank in the early morning and about every ten feet I would get a strike. Most of them were two pounds plus with the largest 2.75 pounds (scale weight). I'm in love with the rod. I could finesse the lure in or bullet it in under brush with no problems. I'd like to try a Revo Premier to compare with the Curados but feel a little guilty about spending $200 plus just to compare.

Hard Fished Lake Bass Smarter?
Yeh, spring fishing is nice here and starts in April for good. Of course I'm jealous of my friends further south who can fish in the winter. This year the lake froze over bank to bank for a few days. I'll have a Golden Corral steak in your honor. Jobs are hard to come by everywhere.

Hard Fished Lake Bass Smarter?
I am fortunate to live in a house directly overlooking the mouth of a cove of a 55,000 acre lake and am an avid bass fisherman. The lake is hard fished, particularly in the spring when there are many tournaments. Day after day I see a parade of bass boats enter the cove and fish around the shoreline. Considering myself a student fisherman I observe their technique carefully. Fundamentally there seem to be two or three different approaches. Some fisherman will drive directly to a favorite spot, fish there for a few minutes and then gun off to some different location. The other group will spend hours fishing around the shoreline and docks and exhaustively fish the cove. Still others, far fewer than the other two groups, will go to a spot, usually the point at the cove entry, and just fish there for an hour or more. First question, what is your most productive approach – running to spot to spot or carefully fishing out a larger area? Second question – These bass must see every lure known to man, many times each day. Are these bass more highly educated and harder to catch than the pond bass that see a fisherman only occasionally? And, are the larger and therefore older bass get still smarter and harder to catch than the young smaller ones? I have buddies that are always bragging about the big catch on their favorite pond while I have to work hard to get a half dozen bass of any size on my hard fished lake.

How Long A Rod For Flipping Over Dock Cables
I love fishing around docks; however, the cables seem to be designed to keep me out of the spots I want to get at. I typically use a 7ft spinning rod from the front of my boat. So many times I find that I'd like to have a longer rod to pick my plastic up over the cables holding the dock. What's the longest rod and action you would recommend for this type of fishing? Any specific rod recommendations at under $150? Thanks in advance.

Topwater time!
I got 5 bass between 6 and 8pm yesterday on Devils Horse. It's my favorite top water lure. I just pitched it right to the bank, let it sit for about 20 seconds and then just jiggle it so it make little waves. That's when they slam it most of the time. If not I give it a few short jerks, wait for a few seconds and then bring it in for another try.

What spinning rod under $150
I just ordered the Fenwick's Techna AV, model AVS70MF recommended by sal669. While I had some leaning toward a split grip the idea of getting a $220 for a bargin won out in the end. I'm looking forward to catching some big bass on it now. THANKS to all who made recommendations.

What spinning rod under $150
I have a e21 baitcasting cranking rod which I like OK - except for the foam grip. While it's OK I'm not sure I would go that way for spinning rod.

What spinning rod under $150
Sounds like a good deal; however, I think I'm interesting in something a bit longer than 6'6".

What spinning rod under $150
Thanks for input on previous post I made the decision to go with the Symetre 2500 for adding a second spinning rig to my boat. Now, what rod would you recommend to match with it for under $150. I'm planning to fish mainly plastics or small swim baits in LOZ around boat docks, on rocky bottoms and against shore. What's your thoughts about optimum length of rod and action/tip?

Shimano Stradic vs Symetre Spinning reels
I tried to place an order with them but when I went to pay by paypal I got the following message - "This recipient is currently unable to receive money." Has anyone ordered from them? Are they reliable?
