  1. When spooling a reel with fresh line I make x amount of turns with the handle and spray l&l. Then just continue that process until it's full of new line. Then spray it down the night before I go fishing X2 i tend to drench it....i don't think you can use too much...it absolutely works.
  2. i will be fishing cover but not too think or nasty...thanks for the replies. sounds like 12lb would be the choice..
  3. i've never used a leader before.....always straight braid. i picked up some of BPS' fluoro on sale and thought i would try using a leader and see how it may change things. i'll be using 20lb braid so i am not sure what size of leader to use. i picked up 8,12 and 17lb. i'll be using it primarily for jigs. nothing heavier than 3/8oz. thanks.
  4. i personally don't care for the sureset hook. seems like it would be weaker (?) i swapped all mine out for Gammy hooks as soon as i got them. if anyone wants the suresets i took off...let me know...i'll see how many i have and send them for just the shipping cost.
  5. i will use a snap if i am fishing from the bank and limited to one rod. it is much easier to change baits, etc. i've used them in the past when fishing in a tournament out of the back of the boat since i am limited to the number of rods and i need to adapt quickly to whatever the boater decides to do. i've even used one with a jig. but it certainly is not preferable for that. i think they can serve their purpose and as mentioned above...do they change the action of a crankbait...yes...but who knows if that is good or bad...that day...at that location, etc..
  6. mitch..i agree with you. i mainly use 1/4 and 3/8. i just like the feel better. if i was fishing current and/or over 12ft of water i would go heavier. but where i fish a jig is usually under 6ft and no current.
  7. i do go to the BPS near Louisville.. and the one in Cincinnati. never had a problem with either. in fact both staffs have held stuff behind the counter until i get there. and have looked for items while i am on the phone so i don't drive there and then they not have it. their prices are higher, so i only buy what i am pressed to get there. never been approached by the "time share" guys. but just think. ...they have a job to do and if they weren't aggressive they would probably have no luck at all. i have been approached by many time share people while in florida...never had problem ignoring them. so just ignore them...
  8. frog toggs... and X2 on the bibs..
  9. macmichael... looking forward to meeting you as well... last year was a great time and i'm sure this year will be too... everyone was awesome..
  10. Mike L....thanks for the hookup. greatly appreciated.. glad to have that worked out...
  11. tube drop shot lipless crank mainly because i fish these the least amount of time. and when i do. i have zero confidence so i fish about 10 minutes, if that, then change to something else..
  12. well..... Brian was my roomie. and had our lodging worked out.. so now i am scrambling to find a bed.....anyone have one available?
  13. Siebert....hands down...
  14. i use a PQ 5:2 for my deep cranks and love it. very smooth. no problems. i use a BP Crankin' Stick 7ft mh. would like to sell the rod and upgrade... the rod is ok...but i wish it had a longer handle to rest against my body to crank..
  15. it makes a difference to a point. only in that...does it get the fish to the bank or the boat. using the right equipment...a reel with enough drag/power, and rod with enough backbone and line that won't break. all that said. that can all be purchased for under $100, easy. although, a higher end rod will help you "feel" things better, thus potentially helping you catch more to me it is all about location, location, location and timing. imo...mostly it is like a car.... a Ford Tempo will get you where you want to go....but it sure is more fun arriving in a Corvette......(with a hot female next to you)....
  16. well....i was leaing towards the Aetos. now i plain don't know...i do want a MH....i think?? lol... i will be throwing a lot of 3/8oz jigs...so? i hadn't considered the KLX... i'll drive the BP friday to see how the Avid feels...
  17. good info. thanks. it sure would nice to be able to hold both. i have a BPS and Cabela's a little over 2 hours away. both have the Avid. neither one carries the Aetos. i may make the drive just to hold the Avid. the handle concerns me. and it sounds like the Aetos is a great value and $20 less. not that $20 is much difference at this point. but it gives me $20 for something else...lol.. would like to get some more input...thanks..
  18. what is everyone's opinion to use an improved clinch knot with this line? if i wet it real good before cinching it down. i am thinking of picking up some of this line this weekend. i've never used flouro before.
  19. a best friend of mine...we call him.... Goo. and he earned that nickname about 15 years ago and it has stuck. the story is a little racy to explain here. also... my son's best friend. i call him 2. as in... my 2nd son...and....well....you can guess the other reason. lol so i guess my contribution here would be GOO and 2...
  20. which do you prefer and why? which one has the better sensitivity? from the pics, it looks like the handles are quite different. the Avid looks to have a "power hump"? big problem i have is that i can't get my hands on both to see how they feel. which stinks since i will be spending $200. the most i ever have for a rod. i am going to BP friday to see how the Avid feels with that slight hump. this will be my 1/2oz and less jig rod, texas rig, carolina rig.. i prefer a cork handle...full or split doesn't really matter. i am open to other suggestions also in that price range. or if you may have one for sale.. thanks for all your input.
  21. hey swabby... glad you are able to make it...enjoyed fishing with you last year....even the freakin' downpour we crossed the lake in!! i knew i was safe with you...lol... another ice storm hit here yesterday!! ugh!!
  22. glad to hear it coots... and looking forward to seeing you again Pro.... sure would be nice if it got over 40 here....i am so ready to wet a line...
  23. shallow water will heat up faster... off colored water will too... protected northern banks...get the most sun...
  24. they sure do look good. and have good reviews. BUT it is hard to pull the trigger on a $25 bait. it was hard enough to step-up and get the LC Pointers. but i did and i am glad i did. they flat out catch fish for me. i prefer the 78's over the 100's due to the size of the bait fish here. no if the da*n ice would melt...i could get out and throw them...
  25. If they are smart enough to figure out line is bad, how come they aren't smart enough to figure out the bait is not real food? X2
