  1. any knot will work... just get it as tight as possible... one thing is KEY after that...the first few turns of the handle......go slow and easy without much tension until the line is around the spool a few times....then start putting resistance on the line and continue to reel it on. i found that if you put too much tension on the first few turns..it will slip...
  2. i'm thinking you DEFINITELY don't want to say that to her... since that would mean that YOU are the one in the dress... and if thats the case..."Houston, we have a problem".. lol!!
  3. i hope that bite is on..i plan on throwing a Power Team Swinging Hammer..if it is.
  4. i guess you can call her what you want...but imo that IS disrespectful. maybe that is why you are NOT married?? we should probably just agree to disagree on that term.
  5. uh..... first of all.....don't call her the "ol(old) lady"... to me, that is totally disrepectful..
  6. reason... I think if you need to label your cranks, you have too many and aren't familiar with them, not a recipe for success, but to each his own. ?? you lost me on your post?? "not a recipe for success"... huh?? since it doesn't negatively affect the crankbait in any way, i think if you are fairly new to fishing, and it helps you learn your baits better....it gives you a quick "reminder" to help you. what is the harm? to me, that could be a "key ingredient" in your recipe for success...quicly being able to identify and know the depth at which a certain crank runs...
  7. as a co-angler...therefore limited in number of rods.... i always have a duo lock snap on the rods i use for crankbaits, jerkbaits, topwater. it is much easier and quicker to change and adapt as my boater changes speed/location, etc. i still check my line just just as often as i do with all presentations. so...yes... duo lock. and there are times on a spinning setup, if i am concerned about line twist, i'll use a duo lock with a swivel.
  8. ghoti... let me know how that "2 small bags" goes... i planned on bringing a lot less than last year too..........but.....as i go through all my stuff.....i keep saying to myself "might need this"...."might need this"...."might need this"....and in it goes.... lol...
  9. thanks guys....i am better informed now. the Roadtrip will allow me to test FC a lot better than my home water since i will be fishing (and catching, i hope) for 9 days straight and i'll be able to determine how well i like it for leaders, main line for cranks, etc. and i'll be able to pick the brains of everyone. i appreciate all the good, detailed info..
  10. the only trailer i use.....is a hook. this past weekend, every fish i caught on a spinner bait was on the trailer hook. i could feel them bumping it and then finally get caught.... some might say i should have switched colors, speed, etc to get them to eat it better and that maybe true....but i was catching fish so i didn't change..
  11. in the past i wrote a number (max depth) on the underbelly back at the "tail" on either side with a thin black sharpie. no way at all it affected the crank or its affectiveness. now that i am more familiar with all the cranks....i don't do that as much...
  12. i'll be glad to help also... i pack/organize things a little more every night....2 nights ago it was crankbaits...last night it was spinnerbaits and chatterbaits and spooling new line on a couple reels.. tonight its jigs and plastics. lol... i can't wait!!
  13. then...with the issues stated....why use it? it seems to me that after a few decent sized fish....and the stretching/stress on the line...if you catch a few fish...it would need to be replaced after every trip... especially if used as a leader on a jig...with a good hard hookset wouldn't the strength be compromised?? i bought it mainly to put on as a leader to my jig and texas rig setups that i have always used straight braid on. and to put on a setup i use for cranking... now i am 2nd guessing all of that?
  14. i bought the "old" XPS....the white box. thanks for the replies... i was just surprised of the stretch... it was more than i had anticipated and am wondering how that will affect the hookset on a jig, etc..
  15. i purchased fluoro for the 1st time a few weeks ago. i got BPS XP since it was on sale. i put 12lb on as leader to 20lb braid. after i tied it on (alberto knot) and then tied on my jig (Siebert's) i gave the line a pull to check my knots and was surprised of the stretch/spongy feeling. i have read that fluoro has no or very little stretch....but it seemed to have quite a bit. actually close to the mono i've used. is it the BPS fluoro? or is there just more stretch than i've read about and it is normal? also, i've read to "not stretch" fluoro because it loses its strength......is this true? thanks....
  16. i sure hope the topwater bite is good. last year on Pickwick it was...those were some of my best days.
  17. yes... i regret that i didn't take my son to church more when he was young. i went....and took him ....but not often enough in my opinion. i let my wife (ex-now) dictate to him that he didn't need to go and let him sleep in. i certainly regret that...but i was trying to keep peace. thankfully, he understands now. Mods.....if this is considered a "religious post"...feel free to delete it..certainly not trying to stir anything up...just what i "regret"
  18. drug testing for people on welfare...positive test....... cut their money
  19. had my best tourney last year in the rain....a night tourney 8pm to 8am..... at last year's Roadtrip me and Swabby fished in a deluge...and crossing back to the dock....was pretty gnarly...it was high seas and i sure was glad i had Swabby as my pilot... but we caught fish..
  20. that would be fun...i won some of the Tuf-Line braid last year and it is spooled on 2 of my reels now. and Supercast on 2 spinning outfits.. and good news from Wright & McGill... now let the 4lb'ers co-operate in a couple weeks..and i'll be donating more money for the cause....i may even drop my "magic number" down to 3lb's...for the Roadtrip..
  21. happy birthday.. one key point to remember when fishing frogs.....once you see or hear the slurp or blow up....don't set the hook...and that that will be hard to do at first. but, pause, give the fish the chance to swallow it...then a good strong hookset. once you catch a couple on a frog...you will be addicted to them...they can be sooo much fun... good luck..
  22. that's easy for me...Pickwick...last year's Roadtrip. nothing here compares...
