  1. Research. I am constantly reading about everything fishing. Having read about tubes just days before helped me to catch the 19 inch smallie in my avatar. That and putting the knowledge into practice affect my fishing far more than anything else. I have pretty good aim when casting, usually. Stubborn-ness. I will fish until I've exhausted every possibility, usually it's darkness that chases me off the water.
  2. Holy Moly, what a nice fish! Congrats to the boy, I still haven't caught one like that!
  3. Lack of patience. I'm always changing locations and trying a new lure when the one I've been using doesn't produce within three casts. I'm cheap/broke so it makes me hesitant to throw my "good" lures under anything less than prime conditions. And I will do anything in my power to get one back if it does get caught. I can't get behind the wacky rigged worms, it sounds like a good idea but when I try it, it just doesn't look right to me. ADHD. Formally diagnosed. I can't even tell you how many fish I've lost because I was screwing around with something else, trying to fish two poles, or just letting my mind wander!
  4. She can buy her own, or kill me off for mine. She is the oldest of 4 girls all staggered 1.5-2 yrs apart, so in about 10 yrs I will have 4 teenage girls in my house. I reckon that will be about the time of my first heart attack. LOL. I feel your pain dude, I've got a 17, a 15, a 13 and an 11. Not quite as bad as you'll have it though, as my oldest three are boys. And last weekend, much to my heartbreak, my 11 year old daughter declined going fishing So even she is getting to the age that she doesn't want to hang out with mom and go fishing. Ahh well, more room in the boat for me. I probably did the same thing to my mom at this age. Beautiful kid, beautiful fish, priceless tradition. Peace
  5. Wow, that was one hell of a deal, I'm jealous! You're gonna finish up with a really nice boat. Mine was 200, 12ft, 1957 5.5 horse johnson and a trailer that I kinda think is homemade. I love my little boat, (it looks somewhat better now) but I wish I'd have found somethin like yours!
  6. Too cute! Nice bass she's got there, give her a high five for me. When does she get her own boat?
  7. If I keep looking at fish like this one, I think I'm gonna have to pack up and move south... nice!
  8. My gear lives in my car. So technically I'm always ready. If we're taking the boat, it's just a matter of hooking up and moving the gear to the van. I can be up and gone in 15 minutes. Sometimes though I'll take an hour or so the night before, and re-arrange my tacklebox, rig some plastics, and get ideas of what I'm going to try this time out. But I'll do that on a rainy day too, just as a distraction since I'm not fishing.
  9. Mine was a gift from my fishin' buddy. I was gonna call her "The Perfect Girlfriend" but after a couple of times trying to get her backed down the ramp by myself, I ended up gratefully accepting help from guys who happened to be in the area and decided to change the name to "Just a girl" because I can do alot of things but it seems when I'm trying to back up the boat I'm just a girl! She came with a 5.5 horse Johnson, which runs good but takes a pressurized tank, and the tank that came with it leaks. So I just row for now. A guy at work is selling me his 50lb thrust trolling motor when I have the cash, but I don't right now. I want a cheapie loacator too, but until then I usually find fish ok, just not in any great number. Future plans include an inside and outside paint job, I'm thinking a dark purple (to match my car) above the waterline, an off white or grey inside, maybe a floor and some carpet, and of course good seats. The thing is, I never want to take time off fishing to do it! http://www.flickr.com/photos/twomoods/2804050973/in/set-72157603661252634/
  10. I'm all about the numbers, and anything over 2lbs would be new to me so I could happily do that all day. And as someone else mentioned, I usually have a kid with me and I'd love to see them catch fish all day long.
  11. At least 4, we were on a small lake that had numbers of little bass and I happened upon a small area where they seemed to be schooling, none were of any size but they fought like big dogs!
  12. Wow, I tried fishing from a canoe once, it's hard! And that was just with one pole! But I would definitely go with a rod holder, better safe than sorry.
  13. She's beautiful, I'd be thrilled to catch something half her size here in Wisconsin, hell, I was happy with my couple of 13 inchers over the weekend!
  14. Topwater is my favorite, but I still haven't quite mastered the art of waiting before setting the hook, I get so excited I tend to react too quickly, and often yank the lure clean out of the water. The soft plastic bite has to be a close second, I love that "thump, thump" as they're testing the worm. Not that I'm fussy, I'll take any bite I can get!
  15. Nice! I'll wave the next time I drive through there! Thanks, it seems pretty good so far.
  16. I'm just about smack in between Eau Claire and Wausau. Near Abbotsford. Although I've lived in Kenosha as well. Plenty of fishing opportunities in any direction, but very few within a few minutes of home. I shudder to think of the money spent just on gas to go fishing last summer lol! Where are you in this big cold state where it seems like spring will never come?
  17. Thanks!
  18. Technically I'm a flatlander, born and raised mostly in Northern Illinois, moved up north here a few years back, chasing lower living costs, worked great for a couple years and then gas went up making driving 40 miles to anywhere interesting kind of a hassle. And the land of fruits and nuts sounds like a great time to me, I'll get there to visit (and fish) someday! Thanks for the welcome!
  19. Hi, thought I'd post a brief intro. I'm Zillah, I've been fishing since I was old enough to hold a pole, my mother saw to that. I didn't say fishing well, but for a kid I caught my share. I lost a few years when I was a teen and other things became priority (hindsight is 20/20, I should have kept fishing) and got back to it in my 20's when I'd tell the (ex)hubby (who didn't fish) I was going for groceries and sneak off to my fishing spot instead. And some days I'd haul all four kids with me, even the one in the stroller! The kids are older now, and in the last couple years we've done alot more fishing. I'm really looking forward to this season as I was gifted with a little aluminum boat for christmas from my best fishing buddy. Finally I'm off the shore! Good thing too, cause my tackle box is getting HEAVY! I'll catch anything, but it's the bucket mouths and smallies that make my heart race. Most days, I'm happy just to enjoy the outside and throw a line, doesn't even matter if I catch anything. Just the action of casting soothes my soul. I am an addict Well, so much for brief... glad to be here! Zillah
