So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Thanks Bass_Fanatic. Fishing deeper creek bends is one thing I haven't tried on Buck Creek. Will be staying on Indian Creek with the family the first week of August and will give that a go.

Bass_Fanatic would know more about BC than me. His description is spot on, the place looks like bass should cue up to jump on your line. Unfortunately, that is not my experience. I hope to figure it out because it is one of the few places you can fish when the wind has kicked up the main lake and many other creeks too much for a pleasant outing.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
I have fished the far south end Texas side for about 3 years now. Have done well in Indian Creek (numbers and size), have done well off the main point that lies between Buck and Indian Creeks, and have done well in the "bay" formed by the confluence of Buck and Indian Creeks. However, when I venture into Buck Creek proper, it's a different story. Neither me nor anyone in my boat has gotten a bite in Buck Creek. Is it us? Maybe. Take a look at the Google Earth satellite image of TB from March 2016 after all the rain with the gates wide open. You can see stained water flows out of Indian Creek, Mill Creek, Sandy Creek, and Six Mile. Buck Creek appears to be mostly clear. To me, this means no new water in Buck Creek. Can't say its the same on TB, but in the Atchafalaya Basin, clear water ususally means slow fishing.

Persistence pays off after being blown all over the place by big north winds for two days. 11.33 caught in Indian Creek at 19:00 on Sunday. Flippin a beaver style plastic with matching punch skirt weighted with 1/2 oz tungsten. Sorry its not a better pic. Cold and tired and still shaking at this point.

At least where we were in Housen, hydrilla seemed fine from 3 or 4 to 8 ft. Deeper than that, it is laid down and brown. Other grasses seemed OK but I don't think these types get out as deep as healthy hydrilla. As Catt said, two patterns. Shallow grass early and late and deeper water with wood near breaks from late morning to late afternoon. Lots of baitfish and schooling predators on the graph. This was almost 3 weeks ago and I'll bet its gotten better as the weather is cooling.

About 20% of our scoreable fish came from standing timber in 20-25 feet of water up Housen close to channel breaks and the break on the wood near the main channel out from White Oak. Threw mid and deep (8 & 10XD) crankbaits and big flutter spoons. Keep a loooong casting top water handy for when they come up. All front hook catches on the crankbaits.

I thought they were Gene Larew's but when I couldn't find the exact thing I wasn't sure. Discontinued, that explains it. I will try Ann's. Thanks Catt

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Stayed at Fox's about 2 weeks ago and did well on both N & S shore of H. Bayou very early and late in day on windy side. Best results with light T rigged U-tail in Black Ruby, with fish up to 7-5 in shallow water where grass and pads mixed. Hard to find color, may be discontinued in U-Tail? Speaking of which, when the Hauser's ran Fox's, they repackaged soft plastics and I have been trying to find what they sold as a 6-7 inch ribbon tail ring worm in Bloodline red color. Anyone with thoughts of where to get these?

So is my interpretation of your explanation to expect grass in 7-13 feet correct? This would support what JJ said about abundant shallow grass. Correction: 8.5-14.5 @170' level

The owner of Fox's Lodge told me the day before yesterday the North Housen boat lane across Community Hole is dry and this extends almost half way to the south shore.

This is killing me. Can't get there until the 20th so I hope I haven't missed all the action. D.Y. - I have been fishing a Super Fluke Jr. rigged wacky (no O- or Split Ring) using a Gamakatsu Extra Wide Gap Weedless Finesse Hook in size #2 thru 2-0 (depending on how the fish like it). A quick snap of the rod tip and it scoots sideways - nice action. I fish it on a light baitcaster using 8-10 lb fluoro. Need to keep a finger on the line because almost every fish comes up, sucks it in and just sits there. The slightest tick, reel down and if theres a little weight, slam it home. About 75% of the hook ups are in the the fish's bony roof part of the mouth so they ain't shaking off. Use a hook remover to free them because its hard to get your finger in there just right. Word of caution - make sure you re-tie often (I usually do it after every third fish hooked in the roof). The line will abrade on their teeth and eventually you will lose a big one. Voice of experience.

Catt: Are you familiar with a boat launch up White Oak Creek. Thought I saw one there in the spring but SRA has no info on it, nor does any other resource I've checked. Do you have any info, ie useable lake level, private or public, etc. Thanks.

Don't overlook what appears to be the bridge pilings(?) on the right side image. These provide cover for the fish to move vertically in the water column, and depending on the weather that day, they may not be in a chasing mood. Might have to bop them on the head with a slow falling presentation. You should have an answer either way with little time wasted.

Wesley: You are right on with your interpretation except for the Creek Bed. That is actually an artifact from messing with some settings right at that moment. If it were a creek channel extending on either side of the water column (dark middle portion of the pic) you would see a well defined channel just like you see at the bridge. The easiest way to understand what is going on is to rotate the picture 90 degrees counterclockwise (or your head the other way) and you basically get a standard sonar view. Notice the blob on the right side image in the water column near one end of the bridge. I believe that was a bait ball. Look at the color sonar image. The drop off you see is the channel crossed by the bridge. You can actually see the bridge extending across the creek if you look under the "S" in Speed.

Here's another SI pic taken on TB. LongMike and I were up Housen last fall playing with this thing. I had to keep my bilge pump on auto to clear out all of LM's drool (you know I love ya). This is a bit west of Fin & Feather and we were crossing from south to north and spotted this bridge about halfway across. No idea it was there. The bright line on the left side image running up to and away from the bridge is the roadbed. Excellent sonar shadow.

Lets see your shakey head combo
All Star ASR815C 6'9" Extra Fast Action Medium Power Pflueger Supreme Baitcaster 6.3:1 12 lb Stren (I like a little heavier line due to the grass on my fishing holes and have tried almost every new line out there only to come back to the original)
