I never thought about braid chewing through the guides, but it did happen to my buddy. I guess the only way to avoid that is to use a heavy mono/flouro instead?

Finally ordered myself a casting combo. I got it in 7 foot MH. I also ordered a spro frog in the natural color and my question is, should this rod be enough to fish that frog in some heavy stuff? I know it wont be the best. I ordered it in 7' MH, just so I could get in these thick weeds around here. My cheapy spinning setup just doubles over in the stuff. Any recommendations on line? I'm assuming braind, but dang its expensive.

ya, id probably be better off trolling the flea market. Ive came across some reels in my price range. but not many reels/rods together. Casting stuff is a whole other world that still confuses me LOL. How are the old Bantams?

Yep endless, same spot as the first tiny one I caught. I'm gonna walk down a bit and try the shallower parts and see what happens.

thanks for all the info guys, Ill definitely try some topwater out on it. Id really like to throw some frogs but my light spinning setup sounds like it'd be destroyed once a lunker takes it down in the weeds. I've already lost a REAL nice one that went under all of this moss and I couldn't do anything and it finally just broke off.

I was wondering how shallow is TOO shallow. Where I fish its about 5 foot or so, the further from this spot you get the more shallow (canal)to probably 2 feet deep. There is a TON of nice looking cover and a ton of carp out in this shallow stuff but always assumed it was too shallow and never fished it.

Man I am still stoked about the 2 fish I caught today. The biggest fish I have ever caught. After working on my car all day stressing out my buddy decided to go carp fishing with his bow. Well I went along and decided to throw a few casts to relax. The first fish I caught was the biggest. Here is a picture. Caught him with a texas rig black and blue laminate kinami. Can someone guess on the weight? forgot my scale! Heres my second, caught him on a green pumpkin Texas rigged Kinami. no tape measure or anything so I put 3 5 inch worms down the side of him haha. Ghetto I know. any guess on weight for this guy? This has my confidence through the roof! I am totally addicted now.

I have been fishing only plastic's since I really got into fishing bass. I love catching fish and love plastics, but I'd like to experience some different tackle! I fish in a real "snaggy" weedy place on the bottom and was wondering how spinnerbaits do in this situation. Would I just be throwing my money away casting these out? Also what about some crankbaits? I pretty much just want to try some new tackle, but not sure what to throw other than plastics.

abu garcia ambassadeur 5000 round reel, I have adjusted the brakes and do so when ever I throw a new lure. I dont backlash much, but its just akward to me for some reason casting that big round reel ha. Possibly because I have smaller hands.

Right now I am using a ultra lite spinning combo. 7 foot medium action ugly stick ultra lite. with a cheapy spinning shakespear reel for bass. On the other hand I have a thicker 7 foot med. action ugly stick with an abu garcia ambassadeur 5000 round reel. I find it very hard to cast light tackle with it so I mostly use it for catfish and what not where I deadstick. I am itching to fish bass with a casting reel and low on cash. So I am wondering if trading my abu reel (which is pretty much brand new) for a low profile casting reel is an option for me. Only concern id have is strength in the lowprofile casting reels. Could I still wrestle in a big cat or striper on one? The round reels just seem stronger and look it. So pretty much im wondering if I got a low profile casting reel I could go right from fishing bass to say striper or cat. "double duty".

Worst day I've had in a long time, possibly ever. I was going fishing with a buddy who told me about this canal. We are cruising along on this dirt road when all of a sudden I see about a 2 1/2 foot ditch across the road. I drive a big Caprice wagon and I stood on the brakes and just felt my ABS confused as hell on that dirt road. Hit that thing so hard it smashed my lower radiator support up into my radiator, fan shroad hit the manual fan bending it all to hell and destroying the shroud. I get out and look over the car. Sighed in relief when I saw no blown shocks or severe body damage. My radiators is ticking coolant. I had to rip the shroud off right there so i could drive it home. So now I have the rad all unhooked but its so crunched in one corner its not coming out. So next week me and a buddy are gonna fix this thing and beat and bang the lower rad support back into shape for a new radiator. This week I have to price out a shroud,radiator and fan. Money is tighter than tight and this SUCKS!

well I consider it my first bass. Last one I caught was when I was fishing for catfish with anchovie, just hit it while I was reeling it in (luck I think). Was using a red shad kinami senko worm. Using RoadWarriors advice in the "guranteed to catch bass" thread. Very small but hell ill take it and I'm HOOKED! About 5 minutes later my buddy caught one of similar size. Here are some crappy cell phone pics of the place I fish and the fish. d**n thing looks even small next to my fat self haha. The main reason I got into fishing was to get in better shape by walking the banks and getting out. I appreciate all the helpful info on this website that helps me get out there and accomplish that. I took the second picture from the place we like to stand and cast from. its actually a bridge that goes to the other side of the canal with the road going over it. I saw something crazy a group of swallows were flying in and out of this bridge when one hit the water and was kind of paddling to the edge in some moss when a bass came up and SLAMMED it. It was a gonner. If someone has some tips on fishing this type of area please chime in. Tons of weeds that can be annoying.

went and bought some red shad,char shad and smoked shad senkos today, Didnt have much cash on me but I think this kinda gives me some different colors to work with what I already have. Walmarts selection sucked and had no tubes. (d**n senkos are expensive!)

I was also wondering where you guys get your plastics online. the BPS is a pretty good drive from my house and walmart has an absolutely crap selection. I have looked at *** and really liked their prices. How do their worms hold up?
