  1. I am a Giants fan but at times I gotta wonder if the lights are on but nobody's home with him....I think it's the relaxed demeanor that throws me...he really is almost numb to pressure situations. They are smart to get him long term because he isn't peaking yet IMHO and they've got some serious young talent on both sides of the ball and QB stability they haven't had since Phil Simms. Worth it? I'm not sure. Are any of them really worth the dough they get paid? It's so unfathomable to me that kind of money. I mean aside from buying gloomis and shimano what the hell would I do? ;D ;D ;D I just want to see the defense pound people mercilessly and Jacobs beat opposing defenses in the same manner. That's Giants football. Throw when all else fails. GO GIANTS!
  2. Hello there! I live in NW CT and the Housatonic is my main smallie haunt. it is absolutely RIDICULOUS right now. Way high and angry. The Farmington is okay in some spots. These rivers were supposed to have crested yesterday and start going down daily. I will say that Lake McDonough in Barkhamsted is doing okay from the shore. on the boat launch end of the lake. Ponds have been ok in the late evening and early am if you are aiming for LMB. Where abouts are you? You can't be far from me!
  3. I know it's been said here before but shoes, shoes, shoes. As a mostly shorebound angler my back gets tired and achy from standing and casting in weird positions...ie, slopes etc...I would say good shoes keep me going the most. A good high quality wide toe boot helps me so my toes aren't jammed into the front of the boot when standing on an slope.
  4. Nothing on inline spinners? Wow, those save my rear somedays. Up to a size 3 Mepps. When it's really low and slow they like copper 0 sizes up here...so do trout though. I have not caught many smallies ever on a spinnerbait but usually I will sub that application in shallow water with a soft plastic 4" jerk bait. Rarely when I get in a boat I do get some fish running a spinnerbait parallel to the shore if I see baitfish schooling there and I'll work it from a drop off across and through the baitfish and that has worked. I bet I could get away with just traps, tubes, senkos and grubs for all of my smallie fishing. In fact I know I could. Bait monkey
  5. That's a much bigger river than the one I mostly fish up here but the only things that have produced well in this mess have been the 4" Yam hula grub....dark green..pumpkinseed I think as well as 1/4-1/2 rattle traps. No luck on spinnerbaits at all. Tubes when its less angry and some luck on Chatreuese cranks. Biggest fish in these conditions for me were with those Yama grubs. I cast out upstream as far as possible and let the current take it until the lure feels like it's in an eddy or bumping against structure and work it until i get hit, sometimes the strike comes shortly after it hits the water and sometimes I work that thing WAY downstream. Most fish are also tucking close to the banks not far from their usual haunts in normal conditions. Hope this helps. As a shorebound guy this season has been rough to say the least. :)
  6. Listen to these guys, Lord know I do. I did have the opportunity to fish an IMX 783 and a BCR803 GLX for a weekend last month. IMHO, both are great and the IMX is the best all around bang for the buck...BUT that 803 GLX was like nothing I have EVER fished. It was so sensitive...wicked really. 2 TOTALLY different rods, but for plastics? That 803 GLX was just absolutely ridiculous. To quote another member "it's one of the all time greats." It's quick, crisp and requires not much effort to use. It's extra fast though so I slowed down certain aspects to compensate on moving lures. It could "do it all" I guess but the taper limits it. It is a spectacular rod though, so much so I'm getting one as my main casting rod even if I have to buy another rod to fill a gap when I can afford it. I have the Bronzeback GLX rod so I figure I can overlap that and the BCR.
  7. What ? No Shimano Fightin Rod ? ;-) Mark No, but I have a first year Bass Pro Shops Boron High Velocity rod
  8. Good stuff, they still work great but they are a little tired and loose. I remember the days I picked each one up. Lots of fish caught on those two. They both saw quite a bit of saltwater use too. I just kept them cleaned and lubed.
  9. Couple of old workhorses with ALOT of sentimental value. That 100.00 BM is what kind of money today? I was like 12 or 13 when I bought those. I'd say most fishing reels today in that range are a pretty good value....just don't let me unleash my "FIGHTIN' DRAG" or "QUICKFIRE" on them ;D
  10. but retired... Both from the early 80's and retired this year. Note the HIGH ball bearing count at the end ;D ;D ;D ;D Thought you guys would enjoy these.
  11. Pro/semi-pro Guitarist, writer, sometimes vocals, bass, own a guitar shop and a music school. Vintage Marshall geek. I used to have 100 watters in every year from 66-81. ;D I kept the best of all of the ones I have ever owned and they are near and dear and gigged/recorded with on a regular basis.
  12. Alright, STOP! My God! Bronzefly informed me on this whole "super tune reel" thing. This is sick...you guys will make me broke! ;D So ummmm....hi-perf bearings you say? I agree, great post.
  13. WHY IS THIS GUY SCREAMING IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE? Just sayin'.
  14. weightless whacky rigged smaller 3-4" varieties work well in the rivers and lakes I fish...Senkos are even better. Mainstays are the tube, grub and trap for me...when things get REAL tough, the inline spinners come out.
  15. How's the new Stella treating you?
  16. Okay, I've been fishing a long time buty I am new to today's gear. I bought a GLX spin rod and had a chance to fish a bcr80glx this past weekend along with an mbr783 IMX. Both are GREAT rods but I think the GLX is a little quicker, lighter and more crisp...even among the same rods. The sensitivity is ridiculous with the 803 GLX...it's insane. I'd go GLX. IMX is great but that GLX material IMHO is a cut above everything. Good luck!
  17. Hey man, thanks for this thread....I like the side by side photos. Maybe I will get a low profile. Bronzefly took the time to explain all of the ins and outs of today's gear on the phone and said I should look into low profile light reels for a GLX casting rod. One question, is that cast control a clicking type? Those photos helped me see the size difference between this new one and the Curado. I've held the Curado but not this new Core. Thanks!
  18. Cool! Hmmm.... White 4" Yamasenkos whacky rigged have worked for me in the Housy and also VERY well for largemouth as well.
  19. I was under the impression that the "Shimano Product Support Board" was specifically for product support A board specifically for products that supposedly don't break? I heard they were going to do boards for other products but with a possible bandwidth overload they could have crashed a server.
