  1. Great boat! I'm a bit jealous! I'm on summer break now and have a ton of time on my hands until the end of June so if your ever in need of a fishin' buddy hit me up.
  2. Welcome Home! Enjoy yourself and your family, you've earned it!
  3. Thanks a lot! I am really wanting to join a local club and start fishing tourneys. *HINT HINT To any NoVA Club members! lol(shameless I know!) PM Me! I contacted a few and haven't heard back from any yet
  4. Yeah JVM, feeling the love! LOL We can def hook up and fish the rez, I def need to go and hit up Hunting Run soon! Sounds like a good place! Thanks a lot! Thats exactly what I've been looking for!
  5. I was thinking of using a clear coat....but yes they still work, although we should never have to deal with that from a product produced by a big name like Strike King. I'm gonna contact their customer service and see what they have to say. Thanks
  6. There is way too much experience and knowledge that would KVD the upper hand on any body of water. Maybe if his zebco reel hand no line, then I'd hand it to him.
  7. All, Thanks, I understand what the issues were, it was taken way out of context.
  8. You only got one negative reaction. You must remember that those who don't care about the sport of fishing or have issues with people taking advantage of their property may see a picture like that and assume the same as LBH did. I know it may seem too PC but you have to be that way anymore. Anyway, welcome to BR. There are a lot of guys up your way and I'm sure someone will have an open seat at some point. Thanks, I understand what the issues were, it was taken way out of context. I was getting hammered on another thread as well.
  9. Virginian, glad to see another Arlington Resident. Keep me posted of any good action you find!
  10. I recently purchased some Strike King KVD Burner Spinner baits and SK Sexy Spoons. I picked up a White/Chart Spinner with White/Chart colored blades. I tossed it out a few times and within about 20 minutes the paint on the blades started to peel off and chip away. I have the same issues with the Sexy Spoons. I wasn't banging it off cover or structure, so I was pretty upset. I've fished a lot of Strike King products and this is the first time that I've had any bad experiences and was wondering if anyone else had a similar experiences or if its a isolated case.
  11. I'm in the same situation, looking to get into some tournament fishing. The FLW website has a Co-Angler clinic with some really good information in it that was helpful to me. Check it out. Sorry I can't post a link yet(newb)
  12. Not at all the case... Thats my father in law's pond, just thought it was a ironic pic. Didn't think I'd end up getting so many negative reactions!
  13. ???? If your referring to the pic, as did somebody else already, I took that at my father-in -law's pond. I thought it was a ironic pic and put it up for laughs. Not trying to be a fishing outlaw, and didn't think I'd get so many negative remarks about it. Sheesh! Guess I need to really think about overreactions.
  14. My name is Nelson Martinez. I currently live in Arlington and have been working hard to increase my fishing time and knowledge. I have been a recreational angler for about 15 years. I'm originally from Milwaukee Wisconsin and started fishing the natural lakes there as a kid. I return there every summer for a family vacation at a north woods cabin on a lake and spend the week fishing religiously in 10-12 hours spans. I relocated to Arlington Virginia after 8 years in the Marine Corps. I'm looking to join a local club, soak up some knowledge, gain some experience and take my fishing to the next level. I want to start fishing tournaments and local club events seem to be the logical step. Since my fishing time has been very limited to short weekly bouts, I've adapted a power fishing style of running and gunning across as much water as possible looking for active fish. I really need to learn how to slow down and adopt some finesse techniques. I don't own a boat and I am slowly building my tackle arsenal. Would like to join up with some knowledgeable local anglers and hit the waters. I'm really looking forward to collaborating with you guys and sharing experiences and hopefully make some friends along the way. Feel free to contact me if your in need of a partner for the day! I'll always take the opportunity to go fishing if I can. Thanks for reading and take care!
  15. Wow thats a whole lot of crap talking! ;D Well its good to hear that someone had some luck, I thew everything and the kitchen sink and still almost got skunked. I'm heading back out on the water Friday after a trip to Green Top and Bass Pro down in Ashlawn tomorrow. Hopefully the water settles, but with the forecast calling for storms Thursday looks like another tough day of fishing. I'll post any results.
  16. I love fishing spinners! Its my go to lure everywhere I go! I catch bass all year long. If fishing is tough and I'm not getting hit on other lures, I tie on a spinner and got to work and usually scrounge up a bite or two. I only fish Strike King KVD spinners. Not really endorsing the brand but its just what I use. Great skirts w/ tails, and comes with red main and trailer hooks. Very sturdy, stood up to some musky and Pike bites last summer and I just bent the wire back and continued snaggin up buckets and smallies. My favorite is Chart/White or Blue Shad and I select blades by water color or time of day like discussed earlier in the thread. I experiment with retrieves to find out what presentation the fish want. Just starting to use the burners and going to pick up some bottom dwellers and give those a try. Just like any fishing style, you have to work at it until you gain enough confidence by catching fish. Keep with it!
  17. I fished there yesterday for about 9 hours, caught one fish! Fishing was really tough! Water was very stained, about 6" of visibility tops! It was overcast with a few showers in the morning, and the wind made boat control a pain! I only landed one small 1 pound LMB male, by friend did the same. Threw a 1/2oz Chart/White KVD Double Willow spinner tight to cover. Fished the rez about 2 weeks ago and hooked up to a few quality fish early in the day one 4-5 pound pre-spawn female and a few 2-3 pound males. Not sure where the fish are in the spawn, but man it was tough fishing yesterday!
  18. Hello all! I'm new to the forum and fairly new to the Northern Virginia area. I would like to learn about a few spots to go fishing in the area. I do not own a boat, as such I have been restricted to fishing lakes and rezs' that offer boat rentals like Burke Lake and the Fountainhead on Occoquan. If any of you know of other spots within a reasonable driving distance please share. I'm also looking for some fishing buddies. Thanks in advance, and looking forward to getting on the water!
