  1. I have the same rod paired with a Pflueger reel and I had the same problems. I recently tried the Power Pro Super Slick braid. It seems to cast a bit further than regular 65# braid and if I do get a back lash, it doesn't seem as bad and much easier to pick out. It is just what worked for me and though it is a light green color,I use a marker to tiger stripe the line about 8' to camoflauge it. You've got some good suggestions.
  2. Thank you all. I can hardly wait to use it this afternoon. I will get way more use out of this than any jewelry! What a great non-traditional anniversary gift.
  3. My hubby and best fishing partner,( Fishingcowboy) surprised me with an early anniversary gift just now. He'd ordered a Shimano Curado 200G7. I had trouble getting distance with my casts, especially on clear lakes and with weightless soft plastics like a fluke. One of our fishing friends had his rods set up with Curados andI was allowed to try one out. With just a flick of my wrists, I had the fluke thrown 3X the normal distance with my gear. I guess my hubby heard my "...oooooooooo I want one........". But I knew I couldn't swing $$ yet for me. It came today and he was standing there with a big grin and the box behind him. I thought he'd ordered it for him. What a great surprise and gift. I get to try it tomorrow! Happy dance!!
  4. I'll be there this weekend!
  5. I'll give it my best Southern Charm...
  6. Finished 4th in the couples tournament. We fish till noon, then we all go to lunch. Hubby and I got home, passed out with a nap until 5:30.
  7. Big fishing hat, long sleeves, face buff that you can soak in cold water, lot's of water and ice. I'm fishing both days this weekend. Couples tourney on Sunday, pre-fish Sat.
  8. Look for moving water too. With the recent rains there should be some. I had a lot of luck with the big EZ and Skinny dippers
  9. Jigs and soft plastics. A lot of hydrilla has choked out some good areas, but with the recent rains it's a couple feet below the surface. Let us know how you did.
  10. Wow.. That's a hard way to find out a boat doesn't have brakes. Glad they weren't hurt too badly.
  11. As said peviously, avoid the bad behavior. For another,to get a positive image sent out to the public you can do a few simple things. Organize a local lake cleanup drive. Maybe even local boy scouts, girl scouts, other clubs can get involved as well. Advertise it with a flyer or even an article in a local news paper before or even after. Social media like Facebook and Twitter are very useful. Get out there with your boats, plenty of trash bags, and collect the trash from the lake. Things that have blown out of boats, washed in from the storm drains, or just stupid people who drop their trash overboard or off the sea walls. Have someone take photos and post them online, send it to the local media online with a small article or captions. That may change even a small number of people's opinions.
  12. It was tough, a real tough bite. We managed a limit Saturday with a 5.5 kicker, but Sunday was worse. I had a much better bite pre-fishing on Friday. I was sorry to hear you were sick, and I know you had to be to not fish. Some guys brought in some really big ones and I heard some stayed on Toho and some went south for the big bag. Tony said he's going for Lake O next year.
  13. I would think Friday evening before or Saturday evening. I sent a PM.
  14. I wish I could take you, right now it looks like hubby has the boat that Sat and we have a couples tourney on Sun the 24th. Maybe as it gets closer, someone can get you out here!
  15. You're welcome. I've seen some I know out practicing today as I drove to work. (wish I was fishing, but tomorrow I will be). Fishingcowboy (hubby) found out the trolling motor I just had repaired, was running "backwards" and loosing power. He said he nearly went over the front when he kicked it on. (Thank goodness he wears his life jacket) He stopped back by the service center and they put the spare trolling motor back on while they figure out what's up with the repaired one. We are meetng for lunch a Big Toho grill on the lake. Edited to say> bummer the toho grill was closed.
  16. I have a feeling he was feeding gators to get them to come to the boat for photo opportunities. That is against the law and the last thing we in Bass boats need is a Gator crawling up the back of a boat for a "snack"! The stern sits low enough in the water as it is. We see enough of them at a responsible distance without a need to get "closer". Tourists need to come with better cameras/lens rather than snapping things with a camera phone. That comes with the "i've got to get closer to get a better picture" idea.
  17. Thoughts and prayers for him and his family
  18. I can relate to that, or pickerel..I seem to catch one of those in the middle of a school of bass.
  19. For the Catfish place, you take the hwy in front of the hotel and go east towards St. Cloud. The Catfish Place is on the same road, left hand side past the 5th traffic light after you cross the canal. For Crabby Bills, same hwy, go east, but turn left onto Partin Settlement Rd, which is the second light from the Fla Turnpike light. Stay on Partin Settlement and it will change to Lakeshore at the right hand curve. Continue on Lake Shore. The Marina will be about 3 miles down on your left and Crabby Bills is 50 yards further and backs upto the Marina.
  20. Go to a few local marinas, boat dealers or bait shops. Sometimes there are local tournaments held that they may know where someone may need a co-angler. At a local lake here, a couple guys hang out on tournament day with their gear and $ to help the cost. They ususally get on a boat with someone on the team tournament ones. Doesn't hurt to ask.
  21. If you check your envelope, there was a small strip of paper. It had the boat/flight number. topwaterrob, I hope they get it straightened out for you! BTW I have no home field advantage, I still haven't got on any big fish. If any are wanting to get together for a dinner Friday night or Saturday night, let me know. Catfish place and Crabby Bills in St. Cloud is pretty good.
  22. I received my packet from FPFG and I'm in as boat #19. Sooooooooo looking forward to it!
  23. I am. (Already here).
  24. Wow, Congrats!! Awesome fish. I'd love to get tired of catching 4 lbers..Who am I kidding, I'd never get tired of it!
  25. Have her checked out to be sure there isn't a medical reason for the litter box not being used. I had to put down and cremated my 13 year old Tortiseshell cat: "Thunderpaws'. She went from the "Cat-Who-Made-Noise-While-Running" to barely moving from under the bed, not eating or drinking in just a week. She used to harass our heeler when he was in his crate, by rolling around in front of him. So I will sometimes place her Urn in front of him, just to let him know she was still here. I'd like to think she'd enjoy that.
