goin to motts run tommorrow could use a little help
nope not even. went over to the d**n and hit all the coves and points. was a bust for the most part, caught 4 bass total. even had live minnows on a drop shot and couldn't do much with it. no quality either, largest was maybe 15 inches and about a pound ribbon tail or wacky worms were the only thing that seemed to get bites. i got a reaction strike on my 1 oz rattle trap fishing the center of a cove. will hit it again soon though, so the cove directly across??? good structure over there???

Koppers Live Target Baits - Worth Money?
my brother in law caught a 4 lb bowfin and a 1.5 lb bass using the bluegill crank. he was using 45 lb braid, on his browning midas baitcast setup (crashing the crank all day) . the lake we were fishing has large lilly beds and ridiculous timbered areas. seemed to have really good action to it, and you cannot beat the paintjob. this is actually the first crank hes bought so 2 fish for his first time wasn't too bad. the picture of the bowfin is actually on the southeast forum.

koppers cranks, rattles and swimbaits
has anyone tried these lures out?? my brother in law has the bluegill crank, and the fish seemed to like it on the ni reservoir here in va. was curious about the swim herring, and the shiner rattle. i throw my xcalibur rattle alot, was wondering if these rattles were just as good??? they look great. and the swim herring, what weights do they come???? if not the kopper what swimbait would anyone recommend??? im looking for a fast sinking 4 maybe 5 inch model....

went to hunting run today
myself, my 13 yr old brother in law and my wifes cousin all went out on the lake today. was on the water for about 5 hours, 4hours fish time. did pretty well. total fish was 15, 12 bass,1 pickerel, 1 sunfish, 1 crappie. the largest bass was 4.5#'s, one 1.5#er and the rest were dinkers. all were caught on senko's rigged wacky style. the pickerel was landed on a rattle trap, he was about 2#'s or so, didn't care enough to keep him around long. my brother in law tried to land the fish for me and ended up getting hooked in his thumb with the pickerel that wouldn't calm down. real bad scenario, but he ended up being fine after everything calmed down.

4lb Bowfin out of the ni
sorry took so long to write back. well as far as pike goes you can't beat motts, for sheer quality and not just pike, bass and anyother game fish in there have a higher size per catch ratio than these other waters. the ni reservoir has some big pickerel and bass in there, but few and far between same with hunting run. hunting run has the numbers though, lots and lots of fish are pulled out. but nothing too major although in my last four trips we've to pull out 2 4#s and a 6#. motts has citation bass come out regularly, but it's a deep reservoir with little structure. theres a beaver d**n and a sunken island that produce large fish, jigs are great for the bass, and deep diving xraps seem to be a hot lure right now as well, and of course minnows for you pike and or bass crappie and whatever else you want to catch. make sure to ask the boat guy about the two main structure areas i told you about and you'll do fine. hunting run, you cannot beat a wacky worm there, fish go crazy for it, it's not at all uncommon to catch more than 20 bass and just a couple hours of fishing. i've done damage with my xcalibur foxy mama rattle trap, the pickerel seem to love it too. lots of grass there though, so the outside edges of these beds are where you'll want to be, you wont even need a fish finder to locate fish, find the grass (which is everywhere) you find fish. tons of structure in this place. ni, you'll want to find the lilly pads for your larger pickerel, and even bowfin and bass. anyways i hope this info helps, enjoy your stay and catch one for me

ok bought an old 3hp minnkota electric trolling motor
ok got a couple of dumb questions. been fixing up a jon boat for quite a while finally got it sea worthy just needed to land some motors. its my first boat and i dont know much about motors other than just running it. so anyways i paid 50 bucks for this 3 hp minn kota motor, its pretty old but it seems to run well. havent had it on the boat yet, but i have started it and watched it run. can anyone tell me what kind of thrust this motor has. its pretty bulky and the prop is huge so hopefully its strong as crap. also got a 6hp evinrude gas for our 14 footer that im looking to try out. its a jon boat but its a skinny boat is 6 good??? or should i go smaller

4lb Bowfin out of the ni
my brother in law, cousin and i all went to the ni reservoir the other day. only caught 7 fish total many bites, but no willing takers. we had to leave the fish finder behind, so it was hard figuring out what depth we were at, but we managed well enough. no spawning bass yet that i could tell. we only spent a couple hours out on the water, but the bite was slow for the first hour until we started to develop a small pattern, the only worthy catch was this bowfin below. that was caught on a kopper natural bluegin crank. the rest of the fish were caught on a purple senko wachy rigged and one tx rig senko catch. and a perch was caught on a black bomber crank. all fish were caught under sunken trees coming off the bank. but that pattern died out as quick as it started. it seemed to be one fish per piece of structure.

Hunting Run
hunting run is a great place to fish. one of the first points across from the boat house is a great area to catch fish. there is a house on the point so its easy to recognize. just stand at the boat house and look across from it and you'll know which one im talking about. i went on a trip with my father in law and my brother in law. we stopped on that point and stayed there all day. caught many fish there, all different species, from cats and crappies to bass. my brother in law pulled a 6 pounder out on that day. the river channel goes around that point with alot of grass cover. sit deep and fish deep and shallow. minnows were the bait of choice, but we did catch a few off artificials, ribbon tail worms. all my favorite spots are closer to the d**n.

fixing a jon boat, at a stalemate......
tahnks guys appereciate the feedback, yeah we've tried different plugs. you see, this boat was an absolute wreck when we first got it... it's come a long way since then. the housing for the plug is so beat up the i've actually had to put a ring of jb weld in it just for a plug to fit, the problem is i cant get a solid uniform ring for a plug to seal it. its still more egg shaped than anything. but im gonna post the other other forum and see what they think... push come to shove ill seal the entire thing like the one guy suggested. but anyways thanks again fellas

fixing a jon boat, at a stalemate......
you know that might not be a bad idea maybe i'll do that. but my buddies and i were thinking about selling it when we're done, i think that may hurt the value though... if we decide to keep it then i'll just close it off

fixing a jon boat, at a stalemate......
the housing around it leaks. it's not as uniform as it should be... thinking about putting some jb weld in there drill it out and file it down..... think that would be a good idea?

fixing a jon boat, at a stalemate......
ok so we bought this 14' jon boat some time ago. this was rough when we acquired it, so needless to say theres been alot done to it. we sandblasted the entire boat inside and out, exposed all leaks and fixed them except for one. my plug leaks, anyone have an idea of a good way to fix this????? ive still got more work to do to it but this is by far the most pressing issue

hunting run reservoir
no i dont run any events. just lookin to get a family tourney goin. we're very competetive. so how do they run their tourney's, i know one of the last times i fished there last year they had one going. any good lakes around that anyone would recommend for a tourney. i know ni reservoir has no slot but you can't have a gas motor on your boat when you go so that limits some of my guys. how much are lake anna rentals????

hunting run reservoir
anyone know when its going to open up for the season???? looking to get a tournament going there come march 20 so hopefully they'll be open by them. i've called vdgif but they seem to be clueless about what could turn into one of the best fisheries around. i just can't wait to hit the lake again, got a couple new set ups that i'm dying to use

Rappahannock Help
anytime my man hope you have a successful outing, i'd like to hear you pulled out a 4 pounder or so that would be great.. let me know how it goes

Rappahannock Help
it requires some walking if you dont have a boat. if you do you can just park at the city docks, but if not you'll need to cross the bridge and park in the business center there and walk to the bridge, there's a path there right next to it leading down to the river, should still be there anyway, just follow it down to the water and catch big fish all day. if that fails then stay on the dock side and walk east on those paths there. any spot that has a tributary running into it will provide you with great fishing... get yourself some gulp goby's or smelts and tear them up. chigger craws are excellent too.

ni reservoir or huntin run, anyone fish them????
the boat house guy (the older fellow) told me if you can get to it than you can fish it. either way that side doesn't offer much, i'd imagine its not overly deep, or nearly as fun to fish. the fish are trapped in there so it would be like fishing a regular private pond i would think, toss anything out and catch a fish... that makes for a bitter sweet day, but anyways the best way to approach any new fishing hole in my opinion is to look at a satellite image of the place, find yourself a creek channel and hit it hard.
