  1. The Mojo your referring to I beleive is the slop and frog rod. 7' H/F line rating of 14 - 25 and lure weight rating of 3/8 - 1 1/2. I would say you would be completely fine with that. Ratings on my Kistler: # Action: Fast # Length: 7' 1" # Power: Heavy # Lure weight: 1/4 - 1 1/2 oz. # Line weight: 15 - 25 lb. BEST BAITS USED WITH THIS ROD: # Jigs # BigWorms # Tubes # Carolina Rigs # Swim Baits I can throw 2oz swim bates with ease on it.
  2. I know how you feel... the Gander Mountain I have has a good size selection, but still they carry only the Gander Mountain, St Croix and E21 rods, with a few berkley and ugly sticks mixed in. Both the Dick's have like 2 isles of rapala's followed by a row of dick's brand spinner baits then on to the walleye / northern and musky sections. The selections are poor at best, would think they would have a better selection from what I hear everyone else saying about them.
  3. I use this for wacky whenever there are weeds in the area: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_58035_100010002_100000000_100010000_100-10-2 And these when there are no weeds: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10202742_100010002_100000000_100010000_100-10-2
  4. Yeah I have one of the ultimate crappie soft swim baits. Its an amazing bait, I just don't have enough confidence in swim baits yet myself, I don't throw it as often as I should. But I definitely like the entire ultimate soft bait line up.
  5. I'm assuming your talking about the hard bluegill. In which case the sinker weighs in at 1.9oz. So optimally you want a solid swim bait rod. Can you get away with using a heavy flipping rod as a dual purpose? Yes. Most heavy rods or rods made for flipping can handle lures up to 2oz fairly easily. I would not go over the 2oz mark though that is my personal opinion. (the soft bluegill series weighs in a 2oz also.)
  6. I have 2 DSG and a Gander Mountain within 20 minutes of me... and would trade all 3 for a BPS. Thought the Cabellas is nice even though its about 1.5 hours. The nearest BPS is in Chicago about 3 hours away. Always thought it was very odd why WI doesn't have a BPS.
  7. Neat idea I'm going to have to give that a shot. What's the best pattern 6" sharpy 6" line or what?
  8. lol What's the best way to do this?
  9. remove the wire tie if its wire tied or band/skirt... put on the new skirt. Should be very simple, just watch how it comes off. If you are makng your own skirts I put all my strands together, put them into my wacky ring tool and slip a band on them then slide onto the spinner / jig etc as normal.
  10. It's called chumming! ;D ;D ;D
  11. innovation at its finest... hah I may have to try that next time.

    Rapala Husky Jerk.
  13. Yep, another vote for the STX from me. $200 reel on sale for #120... can't beat that.
  14. A guy at work today was explaining to me a method his father had taught him on getting jigs or whatever un hung out of the rocks. He went on to explain that you use a spark plug (from a vehicle), stick a paperclip in it, making a loop, keep your rod at 11 o'clock and slide the spark plug down your line. He said when it impacts it will shake it free. Has anyone heard of this?? Sounded odd to me but maybe worth a shot.
  15. How the heck did you manage that?
  16. Very nice report... can't wait to try some of those out.
  17. Can't wait to give these a try. All I hear is good, these will be perfect t-rigged swimming tall grass.
  18. Changing from mono to braid, you have to use a less violent hook set, if not, you may break your rod. I disagree. You don't need as violent of a hook set to grant the same effect, but you should still try to rip off lips. Toning down your hook set is silly imo and creates bad habbits.
  19. Handled one in a local shop, seems fairly sensitive not as sensitive as the rods you said not to mention though. I also did not like the fold down hook keeper or the removable buttstock features, I can just see them coming loose and needing to be retightened every 5 minutes. I did like the grips though, the store owner was telling me how they retain heat which is nice for fishing cold days especially up here in WI. But I didn't like the rod overall as a whole. Felt there is much better in that price range.

If your talking about working like an original rapala, thats a no go, the grass is so shallow that the 6"-1' depth would snag the trebbles and be pulling in tons of weeds. I pull in weeds with complete top waters at times like the super spook.

I'm going to have to give that a shot, should help build my confidence in swim baits too.

er yeah I should have included that in the list... said t-rigged soft plastics... suppose weedless soft plastics in general would have been a better statement.
  23. Yes to skipping in close quarters. I assumed they were one in the same, accuracy in placing where your skip is to end up. I suppose that also has to do with the control as well.
