What are they eating II ?
Im guilty of this as well. Though lately, I've been bringing only a couple of specific baits with me. For example, Ill grab only plastic rigs and spinnerbait rigs for an outing. Ill focus on getting better with those. Plus the lack of options makes me focus on fishing rather than second guessing my choice of lure. Im certaintly guilty of overthinking on more than one occassion. My new mission for my time on that water is to make things as simple as possible.

Anyone have any luck in SOUTHERN NH yet?
Wow. The millfoil is blanketing the surface. I havent fished in there in about 2 months now because of it. The water levels in the places I've fished in the last couple of weeks have been down a bit. That probably has something to do with why so much is visible at the surface now. Im actually hoping for a solid rain to stabilize the water levels. Looks like everyone has been relatively successful lately. Thats great to see. Here's to everyones continued success on the water......

ugly stick question
I have two ugly sticks. One is medium action 6'-0" and the other is ML at 5'-6". I love them both. No complaints and you cant beat the price. They've held up to some pretty heavy fishing. In my opinion, it really comes down to personal preference. If you like the way it feels, etc. then you're all set.

Anyone have any luck in SOUTHERN NH yet?
Welcome aboard. Unhbass is the resident expert on that place, and most others for that matter. With that in mind, Ill offer what I can. I fish there occassionally. In the morning and late evening, a weedless topwater frog has been pretty decent. Otherwise try a weedless worm rig or jig with a craw trailer. Unh hooked me up with that technique and its been reasonably productive. I havent fished there lately, as the millfoil is unbelieveably thick now. Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

UNH - good to meet you last night. Thats an excellent set up you have. Perfect for a lot of the ponds around here. Youre right - the millfoil in the mill pond if out of control. Its not any better in the main river. Unfortunately, I think Im punting on the mill pond until that stuff starts to die off as the water cools.

Great job UNH and bassmaster. Im glad we all had success with out latest outings. Just a general question - have you guys noticed how warm the water has been in the lakes? The water in Heads Pond was actually hot. It felt like bath water. I was amazed. The bass were still pretty agressive, though they were buried deep in cover. Ive experienced this on a couple of other ponds as well recently and I cant remember the water ever being this warm.

Anyone have any luck in SOUTHERN NH yet?
Hit up Heads Pond in Hooksett last night with some friends. Did well. We caught a number of bass in the short period of time we were there, all pretty good size and they fought exceptionally well. Lots of lilly pads in there. They were tough to punch through. We were dropping plastics in the small gaps. Fish were boiling deep in the pads but none of us had a weedless frog to pitch in there. I will be heading out to get one or two now though. We did get a couple of strikes as our lures were sitting on pads but the fish clearly missed them. Pretty cool to watch anyway. Access is a bit tricky, as you have to carry down a gravel path to a trail in the woods where you can put in. No formal launch. The inflatable I have was perfect. The pond doesnt look to get much pressure. I'll probably be making more trips out there. Unfortuantely I didnt bring the camera in the inflatable. I didnt want to chance getting it wet.

Im going to see if I can get to Heads Pond in Hooksett this evening. I bought this inflatable Kayak I want to give a spin. It makes it so much easier to get into places that arent readily accessible for larger, heavier boats and I can carry it myself. If I do get out, Ill let you know how I do. Good luck today if youre fortunate enough to get on the water.

Nice job UNH. I was thinking of trying Horshoe to mix it up a bit but I may reconsider if it gets that much pressure.

I was curious also. I fired it into goole and it looks like its at the intersection of Old Milford Road and Route 13. Just a bit northwest of Rocky Pond.

Plan Of Attack For This Drop Off?
I would try casting into the deeper water on the left of the image, across the two "fingers" that create the u-shaped drop where the runoff empties into the shallow sand bar. Bounce a jig up the drop on to the first shallow finger and the let it drop off the other edge. Bounce it through here along the bottom until you hit the shallow finger on the right of the image and work it until it drops off the other edge. That should allow you to work all of the deep and shallow areas with the greatest efficiency. Good luck. Let us know how you fished it and how you made out.

I think so as well. I was out there this past weekend and caught good numbers but they were small. I shouldnt really complain though. I'd rather be catching something than getting skunked.

You are on a SERIOUS roll UNH. I only got out once this weekend. I went to Robinson and caught 7. Nothing as big as the monsters you pulled out though. Congrats on those fish. Im living vicariously though your pictures.

Nashua River and Mill Pond can be tough at times but theyre just so convienient that I cant stop trying my luck. Ive done ok at Mill Pond but the Nashua River has my number for sure. I like them both much better in April and May when the mill foil doesnt resemble a carpet.

What would you buy?
A nice gift for my wife. Second that. Emphatically.

Quabbin; 7/9/09
These posts are spectacular! Keep up the awesome work out there at the Quabbin. I've never fished it myself but it looks like a blast. I struggle a bit fishing deeper water. I think I just need to pay more attention to the depth finder and learn to read it better. Again, great job. Look forward to more.

I got another ugly stick today. I like using the same rod because of the familiarity. Ive become accustomed to picking up the soft strike with them. These have always been good for me. I tried a Rhino as well. They are garbage. Two of the eyes broke within a week and the two-piece always separated when I cast. Ill never buy one of those again.

I didnt. The weather made it tough. I wish summer would show up at some point. This is getting ridiculous. It seems like every time I want to go out we get apocalyptic rain, thunder, sleet, snow, or tornadoes.

I have an ugly stick and I love it. It is cheap but has great sensitivity and is pretty strong. Im thinking of picking up another one with a bit heavier action. Right now I use a med/light because I love the feel of the fight.

Sorry if that came across the wrong way. That was a poor attempt at humor. I've caught a few in there that have been pretty decent size myself.
