  1. Check your scale. Here is my gf's PB 4.3lbs last year. Unless my scale is broke? Nice fish tho! Keep throwin those senkos
  2. So I fish a privately owned 175 acre lake here in Florida. Me and my buddy are the only people who fish it and it's absolutely full of bass. In the last two years we've probably caught close to or more than 10,000 bass out of it with, which is fun but the quality isn't what it could be. Out of all the bass I've caught, only one 9lb+, one 8lb+ and about ten bass over 7lbs... I'd say 50% of the bass I catch are between 2-3lbs, 25% between 3-5lbs, and 15% less than 2lbs and 10% over 5lbs. The owner says there have been 10lb+ bass caught out of it, but judging by the length of some of the bass I catch, it's going to be difficult to find a 10lb+ bass when the water is so overpopulated. I catch 24" bass pretty routinely but we are talking about 6-7lb bass in this water unfortunately. How should I go about lower the population in this water? I don't eat bass, and I always catch and release. I know I need to kill the bass, but that would be pretty tough for me. Do I really have a reason to start slaying these little guys? Tossing them on the bank? Clubbing them with an oar? Is there any humane method to this, or should I just accept the fact it's overpopulated and fish it. This lake could just produce insane fish tho. 175 acres, average depth is around 10-15ft, with 50% being 25-30ft deep. Ton of water.
  3. I'm sure this will be moved to the fishing trip section, but my guess is 6.3lb. Regardless, great fish!
  4. I can definitely fish fast and slow depending. I'll work water quick with cranks, but will slow down when I need to. I get a pretty good idea what will work on a given day. Favorite power bait is lipless crank with spinnerbait being very close second, favorite finesse bait would be a t-rig worm but love jig-n-pig.
  5. I fish a rock bottom lake almost everyday. Jigs, soft plastics (try a slip shot rig), and diving cranks banging off the rock bottom caught me my PB 9.1lb bass. I recommend fishing off ledges and down drop offs slowly with jigs, less hangups and you won't snap your line on rock ledges when you set the hook. If you like fishing up rock drop offs a slip shot works well, or even a t-rigged plastic will do. If you lose one, no worries. I just don't like losing my jigs.
  6. The cold front will definitely slow down the fishing. Downsize your bait like the previous post says, I like to use a grub or a tube bait. Try to fish as tight to cover as possible, and any deep structure and ledges.
  7. Spinning tackle, low trajectory cast probably sidearm or underhand with good speed. I have good success with skipping tubebaits.
  8. The only water I fish in the spring is a private lake that has like 16" of visibility. I have sight fished before and it's so rare when I get the chance, it's kind of fun to see the fish take the lure. Although I've never sight fished a spawning bass.
  9. I've very rarely seen bass jump completely out of the water, but I have seen it. Definitely not consistently, which makes me too wonder if they were bass. If they are breaking water, chasing shad and other baitfish, throw a jerkbait, cranks and swimbaits should get strikes. Bass breaking water mid-day must be some crazy weather conditions...
  10. Yesterday I caught a 7lb 2oz one eyed bass. I thought that was pretty amazing considering how difficult it must be for a one eyed bass to get that big. Not sure how long it had been with one eye, but I thought I'd ask you guys what your largest one eyed bass was?
  11. You can only be true to yourself. If you want to lie about your fish, go for it! Go ahead and put a replica fish on your wall that really isn't the weight of the bass you caught, so everyday you can look at it and tell yourself how big of a jackass you really are. Or post a bass with it's weight so you can read it and tell yourself I'm a lying pos that needs to lie about a fish weight because I don't ever catch one. what a joke.
  12. Never heard of a charlie moore, but looks like some fun fishing.
  13. Went out this afternoon caught about 25 bass in 2 hours. Caught one 6.12 on a SK spinner, then a storm looked to be closing in so I fished from the bank for a little and first cast managed a one eyed 7lber with a jig that I had to get wet to lip in the grass. Thankfully no gators. I cut up my hand so I called it a dauy. Couple hours of great fishing.
  14. Nice bass. Here is a pic of a spawning bass that went 7lbs looks about like yours. I'm 6'7" 275lbs.
  15. That bass will get anyone hooked. Great story and awesome fish! Congrats! Keep taking the initiative to learn new things. Thats the only way to keep getting better.
  16. Nice bass! In Miami she looks like she is spawned out or she would probably be closer to 7lbs. Congrats on the new PB!
  17. Went fishing yesterday at a private lake here in FL, managed about 40 bass, biggest going 7.2lbs. Caught on a Culprit 10" red shad worm. My buddy gets a phone call from his Dad saying he might have caught a new lake record back home in Oklahoma at Fort Cobb Lake (1959, 4100 acres). Bass went 8lbs 13oz and was a new record. He actually had two bass in the boat that would have broken the previous lake record. The lake is known for large hybrids and catfish. My bass and my buddies record bass are attached.
  18. On any river I've ever fished I look where the water creates a hole where a collection of bait could collect. It's its a large river than I'm sure it's different, but just like any bass structure and current are huge factors. If there is bass where you are fishing, which honestly if it's not warm enough bass might not be there, I'd honestly think in 6 trips you would have got a bite. If you don't see bait, or signs of activity, I wouldn't put myself on the river. I'd be looking for some deeper water if it was still cold. If I had to fish it, I'd work the water like I do everything to locate fish, with cranks. I'd try to drop a lipless crank in front of their face hoping to get a reaction strike from a lazy bass. Flip plastics around structure and cover. But like I said, they might even be there. Goodluck
  19. That's what it's all about. Those are some nice fish! He sure knows how to hold them for the camera! Must have a good teacher. Awesome!
  20. d**n that is one of the best looking bass I've ever seen. Looks like it belongs in a magazine. Awesome photos too, and congrats on the DD.
  21. Yeah I said it was probably over 10lbs. It looks very long and had nice mass to it. The people there said it definitely looked over 10. I just wanted to get everyone's opinion. Thanks.
  22. Buddy caught this bass and showed me the pic. He didn't get a length or weight, just put it back in the lake. All he said was it was huge. Any guesses on weight?
  23. Eddie Bussard from basschallenger is amazing guide up through St. Johns River area and Orlando. Fishing up there is like none other I've experienced and I've fished stick marsh and throughout Florida many times. I've gone out with Ed and he's awesome.
  24. I pray for the day when I can do that. Awesome!
