YES! my first bass of the year!!
Used to fish a lot, then quit when I moved to CT 5 years ago. Just got back into it and have spent about a week and a half fishing different places from shore and haven't caught a single bass, only one sucker out of the river. This morning I went out and caught this baby at around 630am. Used a topwater for a while and got nothing, then switched to the weightless, trigged brush hog and got this guy in the milfoil. Gotta love it!! would you say he is "hawg" status or no? And how much do you think he weighs?? http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j192/bmb242/100_0436.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j192/bmb242/100_0437.jpg

good dark topwaters for river fishing
Yeah I know the hogs aren't topwater but the guy said theyre great for bass. Do you texas or carolina rig them? And yes I know Rome wasn't built in a day haha I just expected at least one bass in the time I've spent out there and the places I've gone :-/

good dark topwaters for river fishing
Ughh I can't catch anything I went to dicks and the fishing guy told me to get a jitterbug for low light situations and a popper and some zoom bait brush hog, which he says is great around here in the spring (decided to get some since he says they cant keep them in stock) I went out to these 2 ponds for about an hour and a half and didn't catch a thing using the jitterbug mostly, about 15min of the popper. I've probably spent about 10-15 hours fishing this week using spinners, chatterbait, senkos and now these lures and have only caught a sucker. No bass :(

good dark topwaters for river fishing
Wow some stuff is expensive haha $16. I'd be afraid of losing it on a low branch along the rivers edge

good dark topwaters for river fishing
I talked to a guy who fishes for bass in the local river, and he gave me some tips. He told me that topwaters seem to rule the area and that darker colors are best. The water isn't very stained, which would make me believe bright colors are best but he said darker. Also, fish early morning and before sunset, not really during the day much but have before. What are some good, dark colored topwater lures to fish in a river for bass? I'm going to Dick's soon to go check some stuff out. Pretty sure they're out of jitterbugs and only have a couple scumfrogs (no big foot). I am fishing from about 2.5 feet of water that I wade into and there is little cover. The river also moves pretty fast. Should I be using the topwater along the edges where the current wont take it too quickly or what? Thanks guys, I appreciate the help

mad I can't fish tomorrow morning...
I even had dreams of fishing last night! I want my first bass of the season!!! Screw it, I'm driving 40min to get it from his house. I can't go tonight either, so I'm going to fish all today, even though it's going to be hot. Any tips on fishing midday when its hot and sunny? I'm assuming to go deeper, but I'm fishing from shore so it'll be tough

mad I can't fish tomorrow morning...
went out tonight to fish with a friend and left my stuff in his car when we got back, I was going to get it later after he ran some errands. he never came back and has my stuff in his car 45min away from me and wouldn't bring it back before he left town, or in the morning. now I cant get up at 6 and go fish...I've been trying for days to get my first bass since I started fishing again and I haven't yet. Even then I want to get up and keep trying, but now I can't. Really bummed me out plus I lost my brand new jitterbug tonight too

how to set up my shimano citica
I'm more of a bass fisherman, trout is every once in a while. If I do fish trout I typically use a spoon or rooster tail but I like spoons more

how to set up my shimano citica
what is considered "light" though? Recently I've been using wacky rigged weightless senkos, t-rigged soft plastics, spinners and buzzbaits I don't know why I just wanted to buy a baitcaster haha. The equipment I have now is from 5 years ago and was very cheap I think. When would be the right time/situation to buy a baitcaster then? Well any time is a great time... and if you by the citca and a new (can be a cheapy) Baitcasting rod... you can still use your spinning gear for light stuff and use the bait caster for bass..

how to set up my shimano citica
I decided to make a new thread since the other was cluttered and I had some new questions. I decided to go with the shimano citica, and am going to purchase it today. I have a Shakespeare Intrepid rod that came with my Shakespeare Intrepid reel that I bought like 5 years ago. My questions are: 1. What type of line (brand) should I have put on the Citica? And what lb test? I fish for bass, trout and panfish occasionally. Doesn't mean I never will go catfishing or anything though, but thats rare 2. Should I use the Shakespeare rod I already have, or buy another rod? I don't want to put TOO much money in since the reel is already $120 3. Is it fine to buy the Citica at Dick's? Or should I get it offline? Thanks guys, the help is appreciated

which baitcaster?
thank you, I trust you more than anyone haha. I'm planning on using your guaranteed bass catching strategy later tonight, I can't wait. as for my other questions - what type of line and test should I pick up for it, and should I keep my 6.5' shakespeare intrepid rod?
-
which baitcaster?
YOU GUYS ARE SO CONFUSING! what should i get!?!?! for less than 120
-
which baitcaster?
So if I get this reel what line should I get? Remember I only really fish bass trout and panfish, and I might go cat fishing every once in a while. AND should I keep using my 6.5' shakespeare intrepid rod?

which baitcaster?
my thought process is...a new reel wouldn't cause me to start catching fish...but i feel perhaps waders would help since i could access more water. hmm i havent caught any bass over the last several days fishing different spots using spinners, worms, topwater bait and chatterbait. its discouraging but it doesnt stop me from trying. i need to find a better spot! sorry for ranting..

which baitcaster?
so is it worth spending the money on the citica or should i stick with my intrepid? im not sure exactly how crappy the intrepid is, but i have pulled in a few decent sized fish (15-20") on it or should i spend the money or other gear or waders or something
-
which baitcaster?
thanks guys. is it worth upgrading from my spinning reel? im not sure if i should get that or waders first hah...or save for a kayak or buy other gear
-
which baitcaster?
I currently have a shakespeare intrepid spinning reel, which I got around 5 years ago and was probably very cheap. I was looking to upgrade and want to go with a baitcaster. Which would be a good one to go with? I mainly fish lakes rivers and ponds for bass and trout, but I don't want to be limited to that. Dicks has a Citica 200e by Shimano and a Accurist SW baitcaster by Quantum and they both look good for $120 and 100$ respectively. Are these any good or should I order something else offline? Thanks for all of the help
