I almost lost her a couple times on the shore trying to take a picture haha. I would be lipping her and she would freak out and flop around and it was real hard to hold. Now if I can just find my sandal in the mud tonight ;D

new PB!!! several pics
Funny thing...went to my usual spot but it was closed for police dog field training. So I was mad and had to go to the pond next to it. Waded in since the water level was low and threw a football jig, weightless trigged senko and got nothing. It got darker and I threw a black popper (not sure what it is - solid black, red lip, hook in middle and on end that is covered in a sparkly white skirt type thing) and caught a dink pictured first. Was about to leave so I threw it at some really shallow grass and got another one on that felt nice, but he came off . Threw it again and BAM immediately got this big one! New PB and I'm super pumped after not catching anything my last few times out!! Woohoo!! :D smaller one, maybe 1.5lbs? didn't measure now the PB! coming in at 6.3lbs using the calculator on this site. 21inches long, 14.5inches around Goin back to the spot tomorrow night for some more! Topwater is awesome!! :D

having trouble with a spot with heavy milfoil
tonight I'm going to try drop shotting the open area. I figure if theres milfoil on the bottom, the worm will be sitting about a foot above it in the hopefully clear area. let's hope it goes well I went to dicks to grab some yo zuri hybrid 6# test but they didn't carry it or at least I couldnt find it :-?

anyone else HATE catching turtles?
Hah, sorry but I think I'll pass on the snapping turtle stew

anyone else HATE catching turtles?
I swear I've caught at LEAST 10 snapping turtles within the last year, and have lost tons of worms to them. Some of these suckers are huge too, and smell awful. I've hooked them in the mouth, and also have false hooked a bunch of their hands/feet. Always makes me mad because I feel something huge on the line. The first time I false hooked on on the hand, his swimming motion made the line move like it was a huge fish, and I was soo pumped before being furious when he surfaced... I've caught more snapping turtles than bass in that year timeframe

You are a noob and you are in need of gear
Definitely some senkos and some 3/0-4/0 offset worm hooks. Ask the fishermen in your area what tends to work best

having trouble with a spot with heavy milfoil
Alright thanks for the tips everyone. Tried using some jigs tonight there, but theres just too much milfoil from top to bottom, I kept dragging tons of it in right from the get go. As it got dark I started using the hula popper but no luck there either. I really feel like I should have gotten some bites but nothing...maybe it was just still too hot even though the sun was about down. Should I have used a black or dark color here? I have a white/green hula popper and a black zara spook, maybe I should've used the spook... I talked to another fisherman in the area and he said he has a lot of success and it's a good area and that he uses weightless trigged worms, so I guess I'll stick with that for now. I can't wait for a good spot to actually use these jigs though, they seem like fun. Just have to keep from being discouraged :-/

having trouble with a spot with heavy milfoil
It's difficult to do this, because I can't go along the grass line due to the milfoil. Here's a very skilled, detailed diagram of what the pond is like. The spray is the milfoil, the lines are the tall grass, and the x is me right off the bank. You can see the opening in the milfoil that I can't reach, which is right outside the grass

having trouble with a spot with heavy milfoil
Just picked up some football head jigs (1/4 oz), and some RT baby craws for trailers. will that be heavy enough? There is probably a lot of milfoil on the bottom so I'm afraid of getting caught up in it even though there is a weed guard on the jigs (never used them so not sure how well they work) The baitmonkey got me and I picked up a new hula popper too

having trouble with a spot with heavy milfoil
Ah, thanks Catt I see what you mean. When I head out to this spot tonight I'll keep that in mind. Should I just stick to these weightless trigged senkos and brush hogs or start getting into jigs to punch through?

having trouble with a spot with heavy milfoil
Posted this in another thread but no one replied after I did. I caught a couple of bass last summer at this spot on some watermellon red brush hogs, but haven't caught anything since, and the milfoil is really thick right now. It grew in heavy and there's more and it covers a larger area now I tried throwing some spro fogs out (have a yellow one with ribbon type stuff on the back, and a black big foot with brown feet), but theyre light and I can't really hit the area I want. I feel like when I use a bullet weight for a trigged senko or brush hog I still collect milfoil and it's pretty annoying (this is what I try most) Not sure how to handle this best. Never tried jigs, maybe I should (never have used them in general) I REALLY feel like this is a hot spot for bass though. When I fished it the other day, a bass would splash in this open area but as I said I'm JUST out of reach and I don't want to add weight due to the milfoil I'd get caught up in..theres a lot of high grass in a big area, then it stops and theres a small opening with nothing (that I can't reach with a weightless worm or frog as I said), then the heavy milfoil up until where I am standing about 10ft off shore. I really want to conquer this spot and it's really frustrating because I don't know what to do Any advice on this spot and how to fish it best with all the milfoil? I know some nice bass are in there (caught the one in my avi in the same spot last summer), and I need to get to them!! thanks everyone

What do you consider a successful day when fishing?
Wow, my day is a great success if I catch one bass haha. 90% of the time I come out with nothing I must be pretty bad at this even though I THINK I'm doing things semi-right

could my line be affecting the bite?
Any brands you guys recommend specifically? Also, why would I go down to 4lb for the trout, will a heavier test make a negative difference? I'm hoping to actually get some rainbows this year - I used a rainbow spoon last year and got nothin

could my line be affecting the bite?
several years ago I went to the beach and went fishing off a jette with some friends and got some new line put on. Now the problem is I have no idea what kind of line the guy put on, but I'm pretty sure it's 10-12lb test. It is also a blueish clear color. I'm assuming theres a difference between salt/fresh water line so I'm assuming it's salt line Could this type of line affect my success when fishing for bass in ponds in my area? If so, what should I look into getting? Besides bass fishing in ponds, I will also be fishing for rainbows from a canoe (I fish the ponds off the shore) for a couple of weeks at the end of the month in new york Just curious, thanks everyone

Favorite bait in heavy hydrilla/milfoil at high noon
I actually fish in the same type of area. I caught a couple of bass last summer on some watermellon red brush hogs, but haven't caught anything since, and the milfoil is really thick right now. Which RAGE tail product?
These are the worms I have had for quite some time. Just got back into bass fishing and I have only used the black/chartreuse tail worms and had success with that in another state. Other than these I have 5" green pumpkin senkos, which I have had no success with (both wacky and t rigged) and watermelon /black flake brush hogs, which I have caught 2 bass on. http://img31.imageshack.us/i/1000431m.jpg/ http://img16.imageshack.us/i/1000432a.jpg/

Which RAGE tail product?
I just got a $25 gift card to Dick's from a friend and want to grab some new stuff. I've heard a lot about Rage Tail products and thought maybe that would be good to pick up. Which should I go with? Space monkey? Toad? Shad? I fish in a lot of milfoil but not always. That's where I caught a couple bass the other day on a brush hog so I'm gonna stick to there for a few more days before I check out other spots I want to get 2 packs, then maybe some other stuff. What should I buy? Any other recommendations besides the RT stuff? thanks edit* oh also, anyone know how to get my bass picture to fit 1 kb for my avatar? cant seem to do it...

White Perch.
Not trying to hijack the thread, but would it be worth it to try to catch a tiny bluegill and use that as bait as opposed to any artificial lures/worms? When I wade fish tons of little bluegill swarm around my legs and peck at me so I've though about catching one and putting him on the line. What size would be optimal? They range from 2" - 6" in the shallows where I am
