jon boat fishing
Just wondering, how many people here fish from jon boats or small aluminum v-hulls? Do you do it by choice or for fun? I am currently stuck in one and was curious how all you other guys cover water and find the fish with a boat like mine. No electronics, and a 10 horse motor.

hand poured lures
I have always wanted to make some of my own lures from scratch. I have found some sites on luremaking, but was wondering how you guys do it, and what types of lures do you make. I want to make molds to and was wondering if you could make them out of clay.

texas rigs
Dont make fun of me for asking, but ive got a question thats been bugging me. What in the world does a t-rig and worm resemble. With a hopping action, it looks like something aquatic, and catches lots of fish, but why? Now I can see how a dragging approach can resemble a struggling minnow, but how come when you hop it, you get so many strikes but it looks like nothing ive ever seen swimming in the water before.

rumblings of baitfish: how to handle?
Try cranks along side of them. If the baitfish do scatter, this may actually trigger a strike. The predator will see your lure wobbling away, and might think its injured. Use a shallow, wide wobbling bait like manns 1- or strom subwart. Both have really great actions, rattle, and can run practically on the surface!

biggest bass in a pond?
I fish a private 2-3 acre pond behind my house. That pond is loaded with fish! It is rarely fished, but my neighbor and i both caught 6 pounders out of it, and some reports of bigger ones. In fact, a bass broke somebody's rod! Thats crazy since these are northern fish! I might be able to get a pic of my 6 pounder up later.

Any ever use hotdogs?
I have also used tree roots before, and get this, they caught fish! Not any bass, though, just bluegill. I was gill fishing from a pond shore, ran out of worms, and just grabbed a root that looked wormy. Caught lots of fish and didnt have to re bait the hook.

Knots? What type, action and lure.
I use palomar knots on everything except minnow style cranks, where i use a rapala knot, or a 1/2" snap.

locating fish
I am having trouble finding summer bass. In the spring and fall, I can catch them on spinnerbaits, worms, and stuff like that in shallow water. I only have minimal luck fishing the shallows in the summer. I cant find any structure because i dont have any electronics on my little boat, and the lakes i fish arent mapped. Help!

Any ever use hotdogs?
i have used hotdogs before. You dont use a whole dog, just a little slice. You rig it under a bobber. It works wonders on bluegill, but you will catch a few bass. My friend caught a 5+ ponder on a hotdog trying to catch bluegill. Up here, thats a monster.

What did I do wrong?
There are several things that could have happend. Either your line was cheap, old or frayed, or it was a pike, pikeral, or some other toothy critter.

nasty bottom
I have been fishing a pond of mine, but i have great trouble fishing anything besides topwaters and shallow cranks, since the bottom is coated with some black muddy grass type stuff. It will wrap around the line or weight of a t-rig and jig. Any advice?

Best Bass Fishing Magazine?
#1. BASSMASTERS #2. BASSN #3. MICHIGAN OUT OF DOORS (or whatever your state has.) I have a subscribtion to in-fisherman, and the articles they do are great. They had an awesome interview with rick clunn in a while ago, but they have a lot of articles i dont even bother to read, since i dont fish for a lot of the species they write about.

late summer pond fishing
I was only back there for 2 hours. I caught one on a superfluke, and missed one on a buzzbait. However, I did find out that most of the weeds have seemed to clear out. I could drag a jigging spoon on the bottom and found some spots with little or no weeds, and other spots with tons of weeds. I will have to fish these spots better next time, since The water was murkey, and i couldnt see the weed growth, i assumed it was there.

fall bass fishing
Im also a michigan angler, and i know exaclty what you are talking about. First of all, I need to know when and where that tournament is, If it in september, the water should start cooling down, and you can use faster baits. Try a large deep diving crankbait or spinner baits along weed edges to target whatever fish are active. Once you get a bite, slow down, mark the area, and beat it to death with a worm or tube. In the fall, the fish should group up. You should be able to boat 5-6 fish in a group.
