I used to fish the jitterbugs a lot and had this problem, but I think muddy is right on. The split rings should help, the way the hooks hang from the factory doesn't allow them to move very freely. I will definitely be trying this next time I'm throwing a bug!
Yep! Indianapolis is my home now. I love it, I can get to any fishing spot in the state in less than two hours now! Mostly though I fish pretty close to town.
I always toss out hooks and lures like jigs once I've bent the hook. Maybe just personal preference, but I feel like once I've weakened the hook that there's always the possibility of it breaking under the stress of fighting a fish. Just my opinion.
Thanks for the welcome everyone! To the question on fishing monroe, I don't fish it. I'm a non boater so I don't hit the big lakes much, but I did live in Bloomington for four years and fished a lot of waters around the area!
