  1. true, but I think you should try it before you compare it to dynamite or cast nets.........just isn't so
  2. lets compare apples to apples not a rigs to heroin
  3. There are no magic lures, there are only tools to add to the arsenal that already exists. This thing catches fish because it represents a major food source for bass that nothing else out there represents as well. It catches suspended fish that are hard to fire up with a single bait more efficiently, what's not to like about that. I think the people who are opposed to this rig are people who haven't gone out and thrown it. It's not going to wipe out whole populations of fish, it doesn't increase fish mortality, it's not doubles and triples and quads or even singles on every cast.........that would be a magic lure. I have had days where a jig or a crank have out fished the a rig and I have had ONE day where it was the only thing I could get bit on. I haven't had any foul hooked fish even though they absolutely crash through this imitation school of baitfish. My post isn't aimed at anyone in particular, i'm just tired of hearing all the naysayers complain, all of whom have not personally used the rig. I just don't see the catch and keep guys buying a rig to throw this one bait on let alone having the persistence to throw it for hours or going to buy another after they lose the first $25 bait. The umbrella rig is just another tool in the box.......the luster will wear off soon enough and those that have given it a try will still be fishing it. I found this video very helpful when I first started thinking about throwing the rig.
  4. my vote is for suffix 832
  5. I used to always have rattles on my jigs, but anymore I only use them in really muddy water or when fishing a jig really deep, like 15 ft or more.
  6. I use them for skipping under shallow docks or when I need a slow fall rate. Most of my shallow water jigging is done with a 3/8oz jig though.
  7. shhhhh..........blade baits dont catch fish those are just goofy lures you find in grandpa's tackle box.
  8. x3.....don't know what your water temps are but if they are over fifty degrees you should consider a swim jig.
  9. I will second the don't spread the baits out too far.......the tighter looking that fake school of fish is the better.
  10. I have been throwing it on 20lb seagaur fluorocarbon with no problems, but I worry about throwing that heavy of a rig stretching out that fluorocarbon and it eventually just snapping on the cast. I think I will be spooling either 25 or 30lb cxx for this rig in the near future. I just don't like braid and moving baits at all......so I'm going to fish it on the same equipment that swim bait guys throw their big baits on.
  11. My vote is for the citica. If you look on ebay you can get an E series for less than $90 brand new. I have had two of mine for a long time and they still preform like the day I got them and I fish a LOT! The reason I prefer the citica is the braking and free spool system....I do everything with my citicas from skipping jigs to throwing traps as far as I can and never have had a problem with dialing in the reel to do what I want.
  12. solar bat makes a great pair of sunglasses and they are affordable too....they also have a good warranty. Mossback lens is the way to go.
  13. Caught one today on a bad cast. I was throwing a shallow crank into a strong wind and the hooks fowled on the cast. I was jerking it back in trying to untangle the hooks with the bait just twirling across the surface. As soon as it righted itself and dove a few inches it got nailed. Ended up being the best fish of the day. It's funny how those things happen.
  14. Thanks.....that is where I saw the homemade cleaner. I couldn't remember the vinegar part....
  15. A while back I saw a video on a homemade solution for removing water spots from your electronics screens and I can't seem to find it now. I think the solution was part alcohol and part water but I can't remember...does anyone know what I'm talking about or where I can find this video?
  16. This has been my experience thus far with both baits....I prefer the strike king right now because it runs a little deeper and has a slightly more subtle action, but once the water warms a bit more here I think the xcaliber's will be the better bait. Also the hooks on the xcaliber's are good out of the box imo and the strike kings I change out to gamakatus short shank round bend hooks.
  17. As a bank fisherman most days I love the wind....helps to hide me from the fish and I think it helps make their locations more predictable on some of the small ponds I fish.

Yeah...I really like the living image stuff....I may just use that for all of my jigs the next time I order skirt tabs, they look good and eliminate all of the hassle of trying to keep tabs in order when you are tying.

I spent my winter making jigs with a friend from my club. The whole process was actually a lot of fun and now I have a jig box full of jigs exactly how I like them. Football heads are three tabs and arky heads are four tabs of silicone with gamakatsu hooks and baked powder coated heads.

I fish swim jigs in the same situations that I would fish a spinnerbait in most of the time.....this year swim jigs basically replaced spinnerbaits for me. I caught a lot of fish that I don't think a spinnerbait would have gotten me...I don't know if it's because most of the places that I fish get a fair amount of pressure and a swim jig is a different look to the fish or what. I fished mine on a 7' MF Premeir with 12-15lb flourocarbon. I also found that I get get fish to bite a swim jig by burning it in clearer water where other moving presentations would get ignored.
  21. These are my favorites as well......the flappin hog is an awesome jig trailer. For swim jigs I really like a small hollow body swim bait.
  22. Heavier tackle for heavier cover would be my suggestion.
  23. Nice fish! I love those kvd swim jigs.....they were one of my best producing baits last year fished just as you described. I haven't tried it with a rage trailer yet though....mostly just small swimbaits or grubs.
  24. 1) jig 2) shallow square bill cranks 3) swim jig w/ small swimbait trailer
  25. I love the xrap series....but as mentioned they aren't super consistent and they don't suspend prefectly either. Having said that though, they are fish catchin baits and are good for their price imo.
