  1. White Perch according to the State of Oklahoma you should have killed it, and report the catch to your fish and game. http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/whiteperch.htm "ODWC is asking anglers to destroy any white perch caught from Kaw and report any catches of white perch outside of Kaw to (405) 521-3721. We would also ask anglers to freeze any specimens for confirmation by an agency biologist. The following diagrams will help distinguish white perch from white bass."
  2. Frogtog, first of all you rock. You are the only person to respond with any useful info. I sent you a PM for some specifics. If you don't mind of course.
  3. http://www.bbbac.org/club_news.htm This is the closest thing I can think of. My club was out there and one of our guys prefishing on Wed caught this 7+. I believe it was a spinner or a trap for the bait, but I don't remember. I know it was on the sun side of a dock in 60* water on the north end of Pea Hill Creek.
  4. Where are good spawning spots on the Chowan near Edenton? All I have ever heard about are around the island at the north elbow, but that's 25 miles from Edenton. With that being said, I was also wondering who has fished it recently and what they have to say about spring on the Chowan.
  5. Castaic Original Hardhead Threadfin Shad
  6. http://www.aa-fishing.com/nc/north-carolina-fishing.html This is the NC website for it. I think since it's technically a reservoir you would have better luck searching by saying reservoir instead of lake. Some other sites have some conversations about it. If you search for it you should find it. According to one guy the reservoir had/has a lot of milfoil and the bass at in the well defined points. Hope this helps. This is what I typed into google: fishing shearon harris reservoir nc
  7. Not a clue. Most guys around here throw live or cut bait. So with that being said, I have had to kinda guess with lures. I would guess at some kind of swimming jig or lipless crank.
  8. Put your 'yak in at Owl's Creek. There should be some puppy drum or redfish there. The flounder should be coming up too. This of course is a little old news, the last time I spoke to anyone about that was a few weeks ago. If you want the best advice I would say to go to Bruce's Bait Shop a little south of the intersection of Dam Neck and General Booth. There's a kid down there who 'yak fishes all the time (even in the ice of January). The last time I spoke to him he was telling me how good the puppy drum were hitting in Rudee Inlet. I don't salt fish much so I dunno. If you want some freshwater stuff go to Sandbridge Road and there's a bridge that crosses Hell's Point Creek. Put in there and you should be able to hit the best parts of Back Bay. I was walking over a foot bridge near there and found a floundering 2 lb Pickerel. They're there.
  9. X2 To compare these two baits is to compare Apples to Oranges
  10. If you notice all the new bassboats have high gloss paint on all of the flat serfaces on the gunwhales. Personally I fish the whole boat, if I am in a tight spot and I see some activity, I won't turn the boat around I will walk around to the stern. Because of that, the high gloss is super slippery when wet. So I got some paint on bedliner stuff and put that serface on all of the flat serfaces around the top of the gunwhales. Now I don't have any issues with slippage that I used to.
  11. I guess it would be nice if my electronics worked.
  12. That's just what I was thinking, just instead of a senko I was thinking c-rigging an eeliminator. Or I have some lizards too.
  13. I am fishing a tournament in Lake Gaston next weekend. As I have never been there before I was wondering if anyone has any tips, locations or presentations they would recommend.
  14. GET A SWIMBAIT!! Not that paddletail BS, a REAL swimbait. I personally prefer Castaic Swimbaits, if budget is an issue go with their original hardheaded series. 14 bucks a pop and I still have one I bought in 1999. That's how I used to catch them patrolling bass.
  15. Done that a time or two, but the worst part here is cotton mouths. The guy at the marina wouldn't let me jump in and threw me an oar and told me to chase my boat with one of his canoes.
  16. 50 Lb Stripper! You'd probably need to drug test that one.
  17. Question: What if I get my wife into fishing with me? The whole familiarity thing would not necessarily apply as I am usually gone 7 months out of the year (Unless the President decides for us to lose our day jobs in Iraq and Afghanistan). I took her out this weekend, before we left she was asking for the quintessential, "Just one more cast, please." Also, I told her before we went out that the water is far too cold for the fishing to be great. Yeah with a slow presentation and a good location we would have done alright, but too much slowness to be able to teach her well.
  18. Man, that's pretty unkind. They all built what we are all standing on. Clunn's ideas were a big step in breaking down bass water. You might not even realize just who's shoulders you are peeing from. Couldn't agree with you more Paul, we have to consider their opportunity to understand at that point in their careers. With all of the technology and learning curves that have been achieved since each of their time, they would have had a better foundation to build on thus gaining the same valuable information to build on. Cars of today are better than the cars of yesterday because of the innovation of yesterday.... Had they all started from the same point and all had the same benefit of todays innovation, there's no way to imagine the result. But without hesitation, I would venture to say that these same few icons of our industry would rise to the top just from their God given abilities and work ethic I can say that they are all GREAT and each have had their own individual "Greatest Positive Impact" in our sport. Hard to argue that point... Ask Kevin why he is who he is and he will quickly tell you that it's because of those before him and those who he gains knowledge and support from today. Big O www.ragetail.com In addition to the comments of Big-O and Paul. Who is the better scientist? Einstein or some jack at MIT? The idiot at MIT is going off of someone else's work with tools designed from lessons learned from the likes of Einstein and Oppenheimer. I have more respect for those who created what we have today from scratch and actually working at it. If you respect someone more because tools like the "Color C-Lector" or Side Imagind Sonar, or different presentations that guys like Roland Martin or Ricky Clunn came up with, give them more for their time; then I would say you need to get a grip on reality. I'm sure the simple little sounder I have on my boat right now was top of the line in '75. Which give you the technological advantage over those who competed then. If you have to use electronics to catch fish, then you have issues. If you can read the water/shoreline and a simple depth flasher and still put em in the boat, then maybe I will have something more in common with you.
  19. The late Doc Counsilmen (Head swimming coach at Indiana University circa 1960-1980) who also coached the likes of Mark Spitz, Charlie Hickcox, Gary Hall, and the rest of the USA Olympic Swim Team in 1968 and 72, had a theory on what makes people great. It's his Hurt/Pain/Agony Theory. Anyone who wants to compete and just basically show up will go through the Hurt of hard work, but will never go past the Hurt Phase due to lack of willpower or tenacity. People who want to be good will stop after the Pain Phase, thus never achieving true greatness. It is those few in any sport who push themselves beyond the pain into the Agony Phase and thrive there that makes them great. Going through the Agony Phase requires a mental fortitude that so very few people actually possess. You can see the ones who do possess the fortitude to go through the Agony phase, Micheal Johnson, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretsky, Brookes Robinson, Roland Martin, Ricky Clunn, Dale Sr. and in the topic of this conversation, KVD. There are still phenominally good athletes who are stuck in the Pain Phase, but those 'stars' come and go. It's the truly great ones in the Agony Phase that are few and far between.
  20. Look at the picture. As you go north on the creek that is annotated you get into a Cypress Forest, the marsh is very productive in the summer, not much cover but a lot of duck blinds. This is also where I have found shiners spawning in September. The main channel is deep (intracoastal waterway) with a lot of cover on either side. The horseshoe on the north end of the marsh is also a barge graveyard. The southern creek is marsh then goes into a cypress forest. Now assume the points are normal, and there are clear dropoffs in the channels (Except the northern creek which is more like a bowl). The water temp is low to mid 30's. Where would YOU go, and what would YOU use? (I have my spots, but I just want to see if there are any ideas I haven't thought of). If you want to look at the body of water on Bing you can get the bird's eye view of it all. The river is North Landing River in Virginia Beach.
  21. DUDE YOU ROCK! You have no idea how ticked I have been at that d@# reel.
  22. Do you know this from experience? Honest question, not bein smart.
  23. Take your reel apart and use some high grained sand paper on your drag washers to scuff 'em up. The added scuffs will give the washers some extra drag. It's a lot like brake pads. Just don't sand them smooth.
