Maryland's Who's who!
i ran into a few boaters and none seemed to have much luck yet this spring, almost a late start, at least compared to last year. Everyone I spoke to saw some big ones by shore by nothing on a hook. I saw a big run take a little run at my creature bait. The water was cloudy. I do seem to remember landing my first fish in March last year, I have been skunked in 3 trips this year.

Maryland's Who's who!
I am thinking about taking a day off later this week and yaking Black Hill It seems a little cold still perhaps, but I am planning on working the eastern arm, the more shallow side of the lake. I doing a recon misson today on foot. I almost always wear a white baseball hat and sunglasses in case you see me. I usually work the shores but do work my blue yak as well. Good luck this year to everyone for a new record fatty bass

Maryland's Who's who!
i got bored and cast a line into the drainage ponds near 28 and Gude drive. Someone here long ago had planted the seed in my head, so I went for it. The pond at Gude was at very low levels and no signs of fish. Farther down the road had more promise. There are some lily pads, some nice deer trails to get to the waters edge, but there was a thick green slime on the bottom, and not a fish to be seen. I tried some top water frogs, spinner bait and classic green senkos.

Maryland's Who's who!
Bummer TKF! Thanks for trying to save the guy. Holy smokes what a story. Messing with trees before, pulling dead branches for camp fires etc, I have had my fair share of "adventures", getting hit in the head, landing flat on my back, trying to outrun a falling limb and running into a stump. One time I jumped up onto a big fat tree branch, and the tree had huge thorns, and yes one stuck and broke off deep into the fat meaty part of my thumb. What a mess I was, digging it out, basically passed out performing home surgery. Get your jumbo heavy catfish rod trim it down to size and use it as a crutch, and get back out there as soon as you can. Lesson learned for all of us, next time just throw out a lure with a treble hook and snag him back to shore.

Just a little nip of ole grandpa's cough medicine. I joke. Thanks for the alert nonetheless. Its a shame a person can't enjoy a beer while fishing.

Maryland's Who's who!
i am planning on yakking BH on Saturday morning in my blue inflatable. Yakking, fishing, and drinking is my plan, as always targeting the biggest lunker I can.

Maryland's Who's who!
It was 3 years ago almost to the day I pulled my personal best 6 lbs large out of BH... I am itching to get back out there but haven't caught many over the years in Sept at BH.... i got out for a power fish trip at noon onto the Potomac just north of Fletcher's and landed this nice smallie. I think it was probably 1.75 pounds

Nope, not that far north Bill but I think you can probably do it - just keep an eye out for river levels at USGS and go out in the daylight real slow if you dont know the rocks / area. I have camped on an island just north of Riley's - great night! Good night fishing last night at BH. Funny story - working topwater I got a big hit and he dove, and when he got near shore, he rose up and spit it out, like a sling shot right at me. It hit the high cattails right in front of me - nice try though. I remember previous years night fish were done during a full moon and I never had much luck. Last night, it was nice and dark. Anyone else finding better night fishing when its not a full moon? I had long thought full moon was best, but know fish generally dont like bright light. And a full moon is darn bright. I heard a loud boom at about 11pm on the south side - dont know what that was. Time to bail.

Maryland's Who's who!
Saturday night I yak'd from Nolands down to the Mouth of Monocacy. Everyone got at least 5 smallies - the biggest only a pound at most. But its the most action I have seen on the river in some time. At dark, we shored up and went for cats. We only got one small cat in 2 hours though. It was great overall. +1 on hating rude folks squatting on your hole. Do you think they even realize you are casting dangerously close to their boat?

Maryland's Who's who!
I was expecting an armada of boats for the recent night fish at BH but it seemed quite the opposite. I landed two both near shore on retrieves. The best was 20" 4.5 on a soft plastic

Maryland's Who's who!
I am going to kick back and throw some shrimp out into the upper Potomac this afternoon to try for some cats. While side fishing for smallies, of course.

Maryland's Who's who!
thanks for sharing the video. I have seen bass at BH just south of there, and on the C&O canal go into ambush mode right at my feet. I must say, they have always appeared unsuccessful. Those little bait fish are quick!

Maryland's Who's who!
I have been up to Lander 2 times but shored it. On those days, it seemed the current was too rough to wade across. I didn't see anyone wading at all but to be honest, it may have even been to cold to wade. I cant remember when I was there - maybe late spring. But you can certainly get wet if you want. I went left as we were driving up to the launch - maybe 100m in. I too went to BH this weekend on the eastern arm and ran into a Crapper who said he pulled in a 10 pound bass that destroyed a little crappie he was bringing in. I assume he guessed the weight. I did get a light tap tap super heavy line that I think was a turtle. He never got near the surface and was heavy. He got hung up among all the wood just in front of me. I gave him time to free himself, tried my tricks, and I ended up breaking the line trying to pull it free. I hate those. Does anyone else think BH is more active in 12, over last year? Last year seemed slow to me but am not that great a FM that I can say with certainty.
