  1. Great story and fish. Really enjoyed the read. This is just one of the many things keeping me comin back to this site. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Hey, great write up. Enjoyed it. Fun to see the particular details for your tournament. Way to go
  3. great fish Red, way to go.
  4. i along with probably most reading this thread are aware of the difference in location, timing, and size. However, it is interesting to hear what people's "go to" is for 7+ lbs and i was curious in seeing patterns on this thread.
  5. 219??? That is just unbelievable. Goodness man.
  6. It scares me to ask this but those aren't numbers for just this year are they Catt...That is your grand life total??? Furthermore, i am interested thus far to see that i have not seen a crankbait response yet. Very very interesting
  7. I was curious as to what lure you guys catch most of your 7+ pound bass on. Please don't include guestimates of bass you think are 7+ but legit 7 pounders and up. Given that some states are harder to get a 7 plus, if you could also mention the state you were in when you caught it. I have a few theories in mind but am curious to hear what the statistics would look like from the many great anglers on this sight. Even if you have only landed one over 7, i would enjoy your input. Thanks, 1. Lure 2. State
  8. I may be wrong but the Potomac river record for a largemouth bass on the VA side is 10.1 lbs. So, congrats! You beat the state record by 3 pounds. This is truly a historic event... http://www.nationalbass.com/reports/kincheloe.htm
  9. Thanks guys. I am in the market for getting another jig rod next soon and this helps a lot to hear experience and what works. Now, the hard part will be narrowing it down. At least i know my confines now.
  10. As the title states, just wanted to hear some good advice on rods with braid while jig fishing, so; what rod do you use with braid when jig fishing (not pitching and flipping). Need to get a new one and wanted some advice from experience.
  11. this is what it is all about. Teach him this and you will learn to soften your heart. However, i would also add that the biggest fish in any lake are the ones that lurk in the deepest part of the center of the lake. No better way to get down there than using a downrigger trolling a home tied fly.
  12. hospital bed?! Alright alright, a little kick of morphine can do that to any human being:) Get better man and post some more vids.
  13. Woh, slow down there cowboy. The better you get, the less you'll feel the need to prove it. Just read the posts of some of the big guns around here, you'll rarely see them toot their own horn...and that's putting it "lightly".
  14. I agree with you Reelcrazy about how it is easier on ponds, especially private ponds. I guess that seems to be the knee jerk reaction when we see someone have access to private ponds and we don't. I remember the days when i had access to some and even if it did get crowded, they were incredibly fun to fish and the numbers of 5 lb plus fish was wonderful! But, i guess the point is, they have access to it and if I were them i would guard those spots with their lives! It's always fun to see them catching nice bass out of them, and the rest of us jealous anglers must enjoy the posts. I guess my only pet peeve with these debates is when pond fisherman really hang tight to "it's just as hard if not harder" to catch bass in "this" particular ponds as it is in public lakes. Yes ponds do very, but the likelihood of frequently catching nice bass is increased. But, they are doing great at these ponds and it is fun to watch their progress. It is just a matter of time till they post that 10 pounder! Hopefully they get her on film.
  15. wow,just amazing
  16. those fish are bigger than my child
  17. Are you at least rubbing the spray in? Mine lasts for a good 10 to 20 minutes or so. The yum crawfish scent, just spray it on, mix it in pretty good and off it goes. I think the bottom line for me with it is i can't smell anything out of the ordinary which gives me more confidence with it; the rest of the logistics don't seem to bother me. And yes i know fish can smell better than i do but it helps my mental game as well.
  18. I occasionally use the YUM craw scent. It washes off within a few casts, but mentally it makes me feel like my scent is off the bait and that my suntan lotion won't linger on the lure. Now if it is a harder bait or a bait without a skirt, i just megastrike that puppy up. Still not a believer of megastrike on skirts and the clumps. I was told earlier on this site to pull every individual strand out but that was not working too well. Just not worth the effort. Bottom line, i like the YUM and it gets my scent off. That is all i care about.
  19. I know lighter buzzbaits are infamous for this. If it isn't tracking right i would bend the crap out of it. If still not straight, get a heavier one. Double bladed buzzbait tracks great. Heavier Booyahs, Cavitrons, and regular Normans are hard to beat.

Man, i really do not like to advertise or toot some products horn but had quite an interesting experience the other day while on vacation in Minnesota. I was using a rage lobster as my trailer for a jig in colder water 59 degrees and was not having much luck with the water temps. A few days later, we finally found a lake that was 65 degrees and the bass were shallow. I was last in the boat. Meaning my brother had the trolling motor, brother in law in the middle, and i was last since this was the particular rotation we were in for that morning. Usually how it goes is the last person in the back gets about 1/10 the amount of fish as the person in the front and 1/5 as the person in the middle. This is how it has always been in our spring trips. Well, my brother was working the trolling motor real slow meaning i was having the 12th cast to any spot i chose which sucks since i was my time to be in the back. We were all using jigs this day 3/8-1/2 oz due to the faster winds we had to deal with. After a slow beginning for all, i decided to switch to mr. Lobster as my trailer. The other two stuck with their pork trailers. All of a sudden, it was lights out for me. It really did not matter where i casted, i was getting so many bites. Within the hour, i had missed about 20 (due to them jumping and shaking it-they were in a jumping mood), i landed 16, middle of the boat landed 1, and front of the boat landed 3. We were not fishing an island but the shoreline where the first cast mattered. It was wonderful!!! Plus i had one over 5 and 2 over 4 at this point. I mean i would cast in their exact spot even while there jig was there and i would get the fish. I was running out of lobsters so i couldn't share so they put on more of a reaction type bait like a spinnerbait and started catching them then to keep me in check and then my bite started to dwindle since i had the last cast and they caught everything prior. But man, it was neat to see that. Same size, same color, but different kickin legs!!! I have caught em on the lobster before but this was worth tippin the hat to BIG O on this.
  21. never apologize for a wind-hawk. That is beautiful hair. Great picture as well. I would put it around 3 pounds. Great colors.
  22. Well, thankfully we were given an extension so we could fish this extra week and have a chance at beating the man with brown in his veins up in Erie. However, he has proven with about 12 of his fish that we were not going to beat him. I just finished a 5 day fishing trip in Minnesota. I live in Virginia and have not been able to fish in Minnesota for 2 years due to school but found a way to make it happen this year. My grandparents have a cabin up in Fergus Falls in Otter Tail county. When i arrived last Monday, the water temperatures for our bigger bass lakes were at 57-59 degrees. That was a SERIOUS bummer to see that given we only had 5 days. The reeds and lilly pads had not come up yet and we were kinda forced to fish a little differently. There were a few lakes that we fish that had temperatures at 61 in the beginning of the week. Surprisingly, during this week, in just one week the temperatures climbed up 8 degrees giving us a fighting chance (even though the vegetation was not quite compact yet). Either way, me, my brother and brother in law were able to catch some pretty good fish but had few numbers. We are used to 100 fish days up there and the most we caught in one outing was 61. Nevertheless, we had a ton of 4 pounders, several 5 pounders, and then my big fish which weighed in at 6 pounds 10 ounces at "Bens Bait Tackleshop". We had a great time, i won big fish of the week and got my free hat and $5 from the bait shop saying "Winner". Fun as always since we are always pretty competitive. The local paper puts the winning fish in the paper every Wednesday so hopefully my old man who just got there will be able to pick it up to post on our bragging board in the cabin. Had he of been there, it might have been a different story since he is just so dang good. So, with a 6 pound 10 ouncer, that puts me at 6.625 divided by 8.9375= 0.741259 giving me 74.1259 %. Yeh i know i know, Dwight cleaned it with 12 different fish but at least i nibbled at his heels with my lone ranger. brother was filming it and never got the whole fish in the video so this is the stills from two different videos
  23. Man, i don't think anyone is going to doubt the weight on that fish. That is a flat out beauty
  24. I understand that sponsors keep this site going. My comment wasn't stated to bother anyone, just pointing out that some threads have become too immersed with sponsoring that i find myself reading less and less on this site than prior. I still love this site and love what Glen has done, just that this site is a fun bundle of knowledge and sometimes too much sponsoring gets kind of annoying. Given your position, i don't blame you for pushing a product online since it is the best place to do so; just some people push a little too hard. Either way, no one is questioning the northstar product in that i have communicated with you prior by PM and have seen your jigs online and they look great. It just seemed like the typical post where he is itching for someone to ask what product it was since he emphasized with his emoticon the "one" lure wink wink. No one is furious with what he posted, we are just pointing out that sometimes it is a little much. Given i am not in any position of authority on this site i don't expect you to see my perspective or change your tactics; it's just an opinion. But the point of my comment was, yes it feels like a commercial, but, GREAT fish from Vinny. They are beauties and he is doin great.
