  1. Thanks for the help guys! Last year my first day out fishing for LMB was memorial day week end. I didn't catch my first bass til July 14 & I fished at least once a week. My knowledge of LMB then, is not even close to what I have learned over the past year (thanks to websites like this one). But, again I'm struggling. My last 2 trips out I got skunked . I've tried lizards, senkos, jigs, top water Popper, buzz baits, spinner baits & crank baits. Not sure what I'm doing wrong or maybe I'm looking in the wrong places? Don't get me wrong its great just to get out of the house & I know not everyone catches fish ever time they go fishing. I guess my confidence is a little low.
  2. This is my first year of bass fishing. So, I don't know where Lg mouth bass are spawning in my lake. I have found other small fish spawning. Should I bee looking in those areas? I also know that blue gill spawn after Lg mouth bass. What about black crappies? I was fishing with my son & found a huge school of black crappies on their beds. :-?
  3. If your ever caught in the rain or your crazy enough to still go fishin in the rain ( ;D like me!) What lure, presentation or technique works best?
  4. Hey thanks everyone for the advice! I have a hard time with slower presentations. Especially when I only have a couple of hours to fish. Also, hooking 2 fish in the first 15 minutes with a spinnerbait, its hard to put it down when the bite slows down. I have done well with a jig. That Friday I did have a small largie take the senko & run but, the worm was bigger than him lol! I guess that's a start!
  5. :-/I guess what I'm asking is, was the 2 fish I caught right away the active fish I was looking for? Or would you have looked for a couple of more bites before moving on or switching to different lure? :-/
  6. Got out Friday morning before work for 2 hours. I wanted to practice throwing a stick bait. I haven't caught a fish on any type of plastic worm yet. I need to learn how to slow down & be patient! So, I used a small spinnerbait to search for active bass. Second cast I hooked 12" 1lber, then a small 10"er. I got carried away & kept marching down the shore throwing the spinnerbait & didn't catch anything else. When I finally decided to switch to stick bait, I didn't have much time left. Should I have stayed in the area & worked it with a stick worm? What could or should I have done different? :-?
  7. No its not! I found this crawdad in RI for sale if your looking for more storage this was very good fix!
  8. Check it out meanmouth! In the southern most cove a 2.5 lber on a spinnerbait! ;D
  9. Awesome thanks meanmouth! Some the highlights I fish very often with good results.
  10. Thanks for the help. I haven't fish this pond this early in the year before so, I'm having a hard time locating fish. The deeper water close to shallow flats is hard to reach from shore. But even when I'm out in my boat still can't seem to find em. I'll keep pluggin along!!
  11. Its Woburn, Massachusetts
  12. Hey guys, I've been out fishin about 4 times this month. Twice with my boat (one of which I had a fishfinder) & Twice from shore. Now I know that fishin in the late afternoon is better for early spring but, I'll take what I can get & that usually means mornings before work. I was hoping that someone could take a look at a topo map of Horn Pond & give some suggestions on where to start looking for bass? I've tried north/west side of pond but only caught a small bass. I know that I'm looking for shallow flats where bass usually spawn & to look for the warmest water which I found last week to be the cove or bay on the south end of pond ( I did find a bass on Friday morning in that area). The water is stained which makes it hard to see structure & cover. Any help would be great! http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/habitat/maps/ponds/pdf/dfwhorn.pdf
  13. I'm purchasing a fishfinder for a crawdad jon boat. I run a minkota 30lb trolling motor to get around. Can I run the fishfinder on the same battery or should I get a small portable 12v?
  14. Have you tried just using a topo map? In Mass. you can go to the Mass wild life & game web site & print topo maps of local lakes & pond that are managed by them. At least this way you can get a general idea of what your fishing and its FREE!
  15. I saw this fishfinder @ walmart. HawkEye Portable Fish Finder, its $50. Does it work or am I waisting my money? Can anyone recommend a fishfinder/depth finder for around $100.
  16. After ice out where are you fishin for lgm bass? Also, what baits & techniques are you using?
  17. I had a similar post a couple of months ago. Didn't want to bother with trailer, have a minivan with roof rack. I looked at so many boats my head was spinning . I finally found a used crawdad with trailer, trolling motor, battery & seats for $600. Withe the money I saved I just bought a trailer hitch & waiting for this *&*(^* snow & cold weather to pass to try it out! If you can't use a trailer look for something like the crawdad it has a max cap of 395#, it weights about 100# & is 11'2' L x 48" w. You may want to consider a bass raider or bass hunter 10'. Much more stable & holds a lot more weight. Their not too heavy. With 2 people I'm sure you can get up in the roof. But with minivan inside would be easier.
  18. I have a spinning reel & rod that works well for me when I'm throwing lighter lures or soft plastics. Looking for some input for a all around baitcasting reel & rod combo. I use a lot of spinnerbaits, jigs & crankbaits. don't have alot of money to spend on multiple reels & rods so, I'm looking for that baitcaster that can do the job well. Looking to spend about $100. :-/
  19. This has been the first time I have experienced Cabin Fever! I skied a lot when I was younger, took kids tubing (but there to old to hang with their old man anymore & I'm too old & outta shape to ski anymore!) Started fishin last May. I can't stop thinkin about fishing! Sometimes catch myself staring out the window at the snow or driving down street to my finshin hole & checking how much ice there is. To make it worse I bought a boat in January & it sits under a tarp covered in ice :'(. I just keep taking it one week at a time!
  20. Oops Sorry :-[. Its Length by feet * width by feet divided by 15. That will give the number of persons on boat @ 150# each. So,3.2 * 150 = 480# max cap weight ;D
  21. Last week I made one more attempt to charge this battery. Put the charge on lowest setting. Next morning was on maintenance mode buy the end of the day was fully charged and was reading 12.7 volts? I think I'll hang onto it. But, will buy new battery in spring .
  22. I too am just learning to jig fish. First time hooked 2 fish lost them both. My next outing landed a 2lber. Are you using a trailer? I was fishin a jig & pig first time. Realized that I had too much pig trailer hooked on. Just hook the very top of the pork trailer. That stuff is super strong & hard to hook into so, it won't fall off. That way you have more hook exposed. Swing for the fences!! ;D
  23. Is it worth keeping the battery as spare or back up?
  24. Recently bought a crawdad that came with trolling motor & battery. I bought a fully automatic charger. The battery won't fully charge & charger says to have battery serviced. How or where can I do that? Should I even bother? It looks new, I'd say its about a year old, should I plan on buying a new battery in spring?
