What to throw when ?
Was out fishin @ 5:30 am. There was a lot of bait fish on the surface & bass chasing them. I tried a shallow running crank bait in baby bass & a white buzz bait but, no takers. As the sun came up I was able to see that the bait fish were small schools of baby bass. What else could or should I have tried? :-?

how upset do you get when you lose a fish?
If its a good size fish maybe 1-2 minutes. If its a hog maybe 5 minutes! If it takes my best lure too, 10 minutes!! But, hey look at this way at least you know where to find bigger fish & have a good chance at hookin up with one again!! ;D

Cheap fish finder troubles
Sippi, The gray scale lets you know what's on the bottom. Rock or mud? Thicker gray scale is rock, thinner is mud. The gray scale is the the line on the bottom of your screen (contour of the bottom). I have the same unit on my crawdad. Its not the greatest for finding structure. But, like the other guys said, look for depth, drop offs, islands & baitfish. The bigger the arc, the bigger the fish too. So, if you see a whole bunch of small arcs together, that is probably a small school of fish. Hope this helps!

Deep summer Bass
Hey guys thanks! I got out Sunday evening @ 5:30 fished til 9. I plugged in my depth/fish finder & was determined to find bass on the deep side. Didn't have much time before dark & then rain rolled in too. So, I searched close to boat launch site of Horn Pond. i was able to find fish with the fish finder but , wasn't always sure if they were LMB. I was assaulted by yellow perch (5) & 1 good size white perch. I was amazed by the yellow perch chasing my 1/2 oz baby bass spinnerbait! That's a big bait for the size of the fish? Now, I thought that if there were bait fish in the area I was fishing, that there had to be some LMB on that side of the pond eating them? But, didn't catch anything. I tried the spinnerbait, a med diver crankbait, Deep diver crankbait & nothing. The North & west side of pond tapers slowly from 3-4 feet at shore out to 30 feet on the center. I did find some small humps & rock piles (that's where the perch were). As i was leaving a couple anglers where getting there boat out & packing up so, I asked how they did? They caught 3 on the other side of pond (figures right!) I'll try same approach next time on the east side? : How did I do? Was I on the right track? Or would you have done something different? :-/

Bassmasters membership?
I subscribed , so far , I enjoy reading them! There are times when I'm not near a CPU or would like to sit on my deck & read. The bag is not really anything great but it serves it purpose. I too was sent a book "advanced bass fishing techniques" or something like that. If you don't want it your supposed to send it back free of charge. I look at as I didn't ask for it or order it so, its free! If they send me a bill, they can kiss my BASS! ;D

Finesse with high water temps?
I went out Wednesday night again. Since i had the senko already tied on stared with it. Got nothin. Then threw crankbait caught a small LMB. Stuck around till 9:30, this time threw a black spinnerbait dbl colorado blade. Hooked a nice fish but, lost him (I was to busy swatting mosquitoes !!). I guess this again proves, "fish the moment & the conditions"!

Deep summer Bass
I have been mostly a shore fisherman, until last year when I purchased a crawdad jon boat. I also went out & bought a eagle 300 depth finder/fish finder. I feel a little lost when I have tried to fish away from shore. I'm so used to throwing @ something such as lily pads, downed trees & big rocks. What's your approach when fishin in summer for bass holding in deeper water? :-/

Finesse with high water temps?
Hey thanks everyone for all the input! I had read that high water temps can make Bass sluggish & finicky. Almost the same as cold water temps. But wasn't sure at what temp that might be? Paul you nailed that question!

Finesse with high water temps?
Was out fishing Monday night from 8-9:45. Went to pond thinkin warmer water at 80, I should start with top water pop r & buzzbait, nothin. Then spinnerbait & chatter bait, nothin. The sun had just set, time to pull out the jitterbug! But still no action. There were some kids fishin with plastic worms & were catchin some fish. Well, I'll give it a try. Tied on a senko threw it next to some pads, first cast WHAM! nice 1 1/2 lber. Got a few more bites but didn't land them. Is a finesse approach the way to fish if the water temps are up over 80? Or maybe just slowing down your presentation? I know that you should fish the conditions, the fish will tell you what they want, blah, blah, blah. I'm just saying in general is slower better when it this hot?

Anybody try "OFF"s new advertised clip on mosquito repellent?

Line breaking mid cast?
Hey Guys, Just started using a baitcaster. I first had 12lb mono Stren on the reel. Then switched to 14lb Berkley xt. I've lost 3 spinnerbaits like this. I cast out & mid way through the cast the line breaks & gone is my spinnerbait! Its not coming untied it snaps in the middle. I always check my line if I get caught up or after a fish. What's happening? Could it be getting nicked from back lashes? What can I do to prevent this?

Crawdad or Ram-X repairs
I put it on the outside. The boat is pretty beat up so, I wasn't concerned about it being smooth. Also, it was very small hole. The melted plastic didn't harden right away. You could try smoothing it with a flat scraper or putty knife?

Crawdad or Ram-X repairs
Just wanted to pass along something new I learned about crawdads & ram-x plastic. I did a search on how repair any holes on Coleman boats that have the ram-x. It said to use plastic milk crate & melt it with a blow torch. Let me tell you it worked great! I held a piece of milk crate with a pair of pliers over the boat & heated it with a blow torch. Let it drip onto the area that need patching. Its best to do a little at a time, let it cool & harden. Then continue to add more if needed.

Locking up your Boat

Locking up your Boat
Thanks for the input guys! Its nothing really expensive. But, it my little piece of sanity. So, if they took it I would be REALLY tickED OFF! I found a trailer lock that goes write on the trailer coupler. Between that & the pad lock & cable, I hope it does the trick. Maybe I'll keep a Louisville slugger next to the back door to! >

Locking up your Boat
Hi guys, Looking for some suggestions on how you keep you boat locked up when your not using it. Saturday night my wife heard a car reeving its engine & I heard what sounded like a trailer clanging around. By the time she got to the window to see what it was. A car took off up the street. We thought it was some kids across the street partying. On Monday I pull out my boat to see that the latch on the trailer was bent & broken off! > Luckily I had it chained up with a pad lock & cable & they didn't damage anything else. Its a crawdad jon boat on a small utility trailer.

Minimum floor width for a stable, flat bottom Jon
What about a v hull? They usually are wider that a 12' jon boat. I have seen a flat bottom v hull on craig's list.

How long is post spawn for LMB?

What are these fish doing?
HI Guys, I went fish this morning. Saw 5 or 6 bass cruising around again. I also could see these 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 LMB guarding fry. It was really cool to see what everyone had posted about cruising fish. If I didn't have my polarized glasses with me I would have never seen the big ball of fry & LMB circling around them chasing off the blue gill. I tied on a bluegill pattern spinner bait from Strike King, which worked really well! ;D

What are these fish doing?
This pond doesn't usually have very clear water. But yesterday it was the clearest I have ever see it. The cruising bass didn't seem to be chasing bluegill. All the pairs or small groups of LMB I saw were always very close to where blue gill were. Some of the blue gill looked like they were on a spawning bed . Maybe I should have tried a bluegill pattern crank bait?

What are these fish doing?
Got out this morning before work. Caught a nice 1 lber under & around a tree. Took me 5 or six casts, first with a stick worm, then got a bite with lizard. I couldn't see a nest but he was chasing off blue gill & not leaving the area. Then I continued down the shore, where I saw a pair of LMB cruising along close to where blue gill were hanging around. But didn't go after them at all? I made a few casts but the weren't interested at all. Continued my shore line search & saw this time three LMB doing the same, again not interested in the lizard. Just before I left I saw nice 3 lb female under a tree just circling it. I tried every soft plastic I had, even dropping it on its head & still no reaction? OK so, I know that the fish I caught was showing spawning type behavior. But what about the cruisers & the big female just sitting there? :-?
