  1. Two spoons that I have started using this year fishing ledges on Pickwick and Kentucky lake are the Lake Fork Flutter Spoon (size 6 inches) and Strike Kings Sexy Spoon. I have done very well this year jigging these spoons in 25 to 35 foot of water on steep ledges. Like five.bass.limit said it is really the best way to keep a lure in the zone. Especially on steep ledges. The down side is that these two spoons are not cheap, get hung up easily, and there is alot of lure hanging out of the fishes mouth for him/her to throw the lure.

Following the instructions that JigMan sent to me I made my own fluid beds last weekend. Was pretty easy. Used vac bags for the filters, got everything else from Lowes. Attached is a pic of the finished product. I may have gone a little overboard. Thanks again JigMan for the info.

I was thinking about making a fluid bed for powder paints for painting my jig heads......I have just been using the jar the paint comes in and it seems to be working fine. From what I have read about fluid beds they are supposed to fluff the paint, use less paint, and more evenly distribute the paint to the jig head. At $100 bucks for a fluid bed, I think I can make one for at least half the cost. My question is does anyone have any ideas, tips, pros/cons on making one vs. purchasing one; or am I better off just using the Jars the paint comes in.
  6. I like the adding in of the plastic skirt......I have not tried that. I have put a couple of strands of plastic skirt on some swim jigs but not like that......looks good.... What size jig head are those on?
  7. That pumpkinseed pattern is one of the best I've ever seen. Great work.
  8. If you live close to a BPS, you may want to check with their fly fishing department......The one in Memphis gives free fly tying classes the first Monday of every month. I don't know if this is the case at all BPS but may be worth checking out.
  9. Flipsk828, Here is one I tied on a Grassbuster jig head.....I don't know if it is really considerd a punch jig or not, but I did not have any punch jigs.
  10. Thanks Dwight............they would look alot better with that smallie your holding hanging off one of them.
  11. No, I'm no fly tyer.......those hooks are way too small for me to see. I do have a couple of friends that are big fly tyers and have taught me a thing or two. I actually purchased my fly tying stuff about 15 years ago so I could make sauger jigs.........then life got in the way.....coaching competitive baseball for 12 years. So I have just started tying again in the past year and decided to tie hair jigs for smallies. I'll send you a PM with my info for whenever you want to talk.
  12. Now that I can post some pics............here are some hair jigs that I've been tying and using. Skanky Shad On a 1oz scrounger jig head
  13. JigFishn10, Thanks, and yes they are deer hair with the exception of the rabbit zonker strips for the tails. I have to put the tails on all these so that I have something to push against. The technique is called spinning deer hair......you can look it up on YouTube and see some pretty good instructional videos on how to do it. It is a technique used by fly tyers when making their popping bugs. The reason I tried this was to make a 1/2 oz jig fall at the rate of a 1/4 oz jig. This allows me to use a 1/2 oz or heavier jig in late winter and early spring when looking for those big females. That way I don't have to use 1/4 oz jigs, spinning gear, and light line.
  14. Munkin, I buy all of my supplies from Barlow's.....unless I get in a bind and need something simple and quick like thread or flash then I'll go to BassPro......but their tying stuff is really geared toward the fly tyer. The biggest problem is finding good quality jigs (in bulk) up to 1oz without a lead collar. http://www.barlowstackle.com Hope you can find some of your jigs to post......I'd love to see them. I am tying most of these for fishing at Pickwick and so most of them have been 1/2 oz or more. I plan on tying some this winter on 1/4 oz shakey heads to try in the early sping.
  15. I have seen some great looking crank baits from you guys and some really good looking jigs......I have not seen many hair jigs. I don't know if not many people use them anymore or they are too boring to make..........but here are a few that I have made, and wanted to know what ya'll think. If anyone else is making hair jigs I'd love to see them....
  16. Very Nice!!!!!
  17. I am using it on my worm rod and have had no problems with it.....it is a little stiff, but has good sensitivity. I also put some 8lb on my spinning rod and took it off the next day........way to stiff and stayed twisted. I think I'll spend a little more money next time and then decide if the line is a deal or just cheap.
  18. Strike King three and four blade spinner bait. Floating Rattle Trap in chrome or gold
  19. That sounds great.....I have a small boat.
  20. Good Luck.......wish I was going.......trying to get the house painted before fall fishing really kicks off here.
  21. I'd rather fish in the wind than stay home and rake leaves in the wind........then again I'd rather fish than stay home under any conditions.
  22. Those things should be put on display in an art gallery they look so good..........I might even go to an art gallery if stuff like that was on display.
  23. Beautiful smallie. I have been tying hair jigs this year on 1oz picasso jig heads with rabbit zonker trailers for fishing the ledges at Pickwick and have had some sucess. I've caught more large mouths than smallies.
  24. Sept., Oct., and Nov.
  25. The bigger the worm or lizzard the bigger the fish in this lake. I tye my own hair jigs and use them quite often in this lake for R&D because it is so clear. Have caught some nice bass on lighter jigs with a lot of hair so that they fall slow and don't get hung up in all the grass.
