  1. I am selling a boat (buying something bigger). Someone is coming to look at it over the weekend, and mentioned that they would like to start it up. It is 13f here now and the high over the weekend is supposed to be 20f. The motor is a 25hp Mercury outboard tiller, I have been told these are self draining. But still, is this a good idea? I have thought that I would tell him that I will start it as long as he is going to buy it, and just wants to make sure it runs before paying and driving off with it. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Give me a holler sometime this summer, I wouldn't mind going to some of those lakes in Central, IA.
  3. I stand corrected, it was the 6.0 that they had all the warranty issues with.

Well, very few of those trips really have anything to do with fishing. But if I can get any small amount done while I am out, I do. Thanks for the welcome everyone.
  5. If you are considering a diesel, I would not have anything but the Cummins in a Dodge. I respect your opinion on all things fishing, Glen. But Ford had a lot of problems with the diesel that Navstar (International) built for them, as someone else pointed out already. The Cummins has proved itself in so many applications, and is the only in-line configuration available in a pick-up. If you check into what the big rigs run, as well as tractors, combines, etc they are almost all inline engines. More low end Torque, fewer parts, simpler design. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
  6. Last summer we were fishing a small lake that is tm only. It was really windy, so I anchored while fishing a point. We moved on from there, and a little while later the tm started getting really weak. This was the second place we had been that day, so I just figured we were running the battery dead. Then I realized the anchor was still down! It had about 100 lbs of weeds hung on it! It is a wonder I didn't burn up my TM.

Hello Bass Resource! I have been a member for a couple months now, thought I would introduce myself. I grew up in Southern MO, and fished some as a kid. I live in SE IA now and fish the smaller lakes around here, but I have not lived here that long. I just started fishing again last spring, and I am addicted. I travel quite a bit, and love to find new places to fish, so I will be checking back with you guys about places to try. Some of the states I frequent are MN, WI, AR, MO, IL, IN, sometimes KS, OK, TX. Sometimes my trips allow time for fishing, sometimes not. Anyway glad to be here, this site has already helped me a lot.

I grew up in Southern Mo, so I can say this without having any disrespect. He may just be a hillbilly like the rest of us that grew up down in the hills, we have our own language! ;D
  10. RW - when looking to buy rods from certain manufacturers, a MH, Moderate Action is sometimes not offered. In that case would you go with a MH, fast action or a M, Moderate action for trebles?
  11. As far as bass fishing, I had to confront the bigger vs more issue recently. I hired a guide to go fishing in FL, because I had never fished the area before, and I figured I could learn some things to take back to IA with me. We had a choice of two places to fish. The first place he said would give us a really good opportunity to see a lot of action 50+ fish in a 6 hr period is not unheard of. The other place not as much action, but every bite would have an equal chance of being a 10+ lber as a 1 lber. I chose #2. I wanted to have a chance to catch something that I wouldn't be able to here (State record is 10lbs). Now I think I would have been disappointed had I not caught a big one because we only caught like 6 or 7 fish all day. I did learn a lot, by the way. Although, in IA, I would just like to go throw a lure in water that I didn't have to drill through!
  12. I would think that if a sponsor (in this case Ranger) is worried about a situation like this, they would spell it out in the sponsorship agreement. Everyone would have a clear understanding up front about things of this nature. I am not all that familiar with fishing sponsorships, but in other arenas the sponsorship agreement is just for what is advertised in competition, public appearances, etc. That being said, it is no stretch of the mind to believe a sponsor would love it if they were the only brand you had anything to do with ever!
  13. This sounds like just a bad situation all the way around. I would think both all parties involved need each other; the association, the anglers, and the sponsors. The worst part is it sounds like if there had just been some communication, everyone would still get along. Much of sponsorship is just building and maintaining good relationships.
  14. We found a big flat hump in the middle of one of the more open areas, and were making long casts to it with a carolina rigged black w/blue flake worm (prob 5 inches), and crankbaits. I caught this one on the carolina rig, the one that got off was on a crankbait. We caught a few dinks on both. It took us a long time to find out what they wanted though. They definitely liked the worms better, I am not that great with a worm though. I need to force myself to use one more. I learned alot about how to properly fish that way on this trip.
  15. I may have to be in OKC in Jan. Is it usually too cold to get any fishing done there at that time?
  16. It's only about 65 miles from Indian Rocks, but 20 of that is from here to the other side of Tampa. So even without traffic it is at least 1 1/2 hrs. East of Lakeland right off 92.
  17. It was a little place called Saddle Creek. A bunch of flooded Phosphate pits. I hooked into another one that I think was at least this big, but didn't get her to the boat. Allen was very knowledgeable and worked his but off to get me on some fish. The bite wasn't very good, but we just kept after it.
  18. Haven't had much luck on the local lakes (only tried one so far). Here is a picture from my guided trip yesterday. Went with Allen Duke, great guide.
  19. Thanks for all the info!
  20. We are going on vacation Dec 26th-Jan 2, and staying in Indian Rocks Beach. I am looking for some smaller lakes to try to fish for Bass. Anyone know of some around that would offer decent bank fishing or if some place that rents boats. I saw Taylor Lake and a lake at Walsingham Park were not too far. I know that there are some really good places to fish that are a good drive away, and I will probably try to take a guided trip at one of those places, like Toho. Thanks in advance.
