  1. They work pretty good but really no big difference then any other quality crankbait. As far as the spinner adding more strikes, who's to say. They caught fish but no more or less then other cranks I own. One thing I will say is that they are built pretty tough. The two I posted have been banged into a lot of rocks, you can see the battle scares on the lip of the baits, but the paint on the body seems to have held up well. Change out the hooks and you got a pretty good crank.
  2. I actually have a couple of them top ones. Forget what there called but they where made by Luhr Jensen. I want to say late 80's early 90's, but not 100 percent on that.
  3. I use the Megastrike attractant every time I go fishing of which is 3 to 4 times a week. Not only does the stuff work IMO, it's also the best bang for the buck for a tube last for months.
  4. I own the 6'10" Heavy rod and absolutely love it for casting and for pitching with jigs. Has plenty of power and plenty of sensitivity. There not as light as say a Loomis rod, but light enough to fish all day without wearing you out. The one thing I really like about this series of rods is how strong they are. I have stressed this rod pretty good and it keeps on ticking and asking for more. You got a excellent deal at 66 bucks.
  5. When it comes to reels, all I use now is Quantum Tour PT and Energy PT reels. Been using Quantum reels for close to 20 years now, still have some from back then that still work as good as new. Use to fish some Shimano's back in the days of the Bantum two speed and Speedmaster reels. And also fished with Browning reels of which where made by Quantum back then. They where good reels and both companies still to this day put out good reels, but once I fished a Quantum of which at that time was half the price of a Shimano, I never looked back for I have never had any issues, never had one fail on me and have never any reasons to switch to anything else. Edit: I take that back I did have one Quantum MG reel that the anti reverse bearing was messed up on, but out of all the Quantum reels I have bought over the years, that's not to bad a track record.
  6. Bobby, you owe me a keyboard. I just spit up my coffee after reading your hell I don't know reply. LOL Looks like some good swimbaits. Can't wait to give them a try.
  7. The Lamiglas Excel Frog rod is about as good as it gets for a 100 dollar rod. For around 150 or so, the Powell Frog rod is pretty darn good and for just under 200, the Lamiglas Certified Pro frog rod is awful hard to beat. Just a few that popped into mind. There are a few others I have used also that are good to, but these popped into mind first.
  8. I own many Loomis rods, some of which are 20 years old and have only had to use the service once. I admit I am not happy about them raising the price of the replacement service, in fact I was rather as ticked as you are when I first heard about it, but with only needing to use that service once in twenty years, I guess it's no biggy. Although I do agree with you somewhat, for I also bought these rods with part of the reason for purchasing them was the 50 dollar replacement fee, but you can't blame them for people abusing the service. There is two things though that I will say that rather upsets me about Loomis. One is that the replacements are not always what you bought. For example they use to use very good Pac Bay Guides and used reel seats with a metal ring instead of the plastic they use now. What they use today is good, but not as good IMO and not what I paid for in the first place. Again a minor thing, but still a thing. The other thing is that Loomis/Shimano is rather greedy. I mean why is the GL3 rods still priced so high. I was hoping that this new high end 500 dollar a rod bologna, and I do mean bologna for if you need anything more sensitive then a GLX then you may want to go see the doctor and see if your still alive, would also mean Loomis would lower there prices a little on the GL3, a good rod, but no way worth more then 140 bucks in today's market. With all these other companies coming out with decent 100 dollar rods, Loomis could have blown them all away by lowing the price to such on the GL3, made there customers happy and still make a profit. If Lamiglas can come out with a very good rod, close to there Certified pro blanks, for 100 bucks then why can't Loomis come down to earth also. Greedy!
  9. I would have to agree with this statement. I own a few different brands of rods, mostly Loomis, and the Loomis rods, compared to others have a lighter action of the same ratings of other rods. Heavy action Loomis = Med heavy compared to others and so forth. This statement is based on MBR GL3 & IMX for those are the only Loomis models I own.
  10. Wondering if anyone has tried these and if so, what do you think about them.
  11. 1. Spro Frog 2. Jig & Netbait Paca Craw 3. Hildebrandt Okeechobee Special Spinnerbait 4. Bomber 6a Crankbait 5. Rattle Trap Add a tube of MegaStrike to the list
  12. All Terrain Jig with either a Netbait Paca Craw or a Zoom Chunk.
  13. Can't wait to take one of those for a test drive. Sweet looking reels. If I understood my Quantum rep right, the smoke rods are pretty much beefed up Quantum PT SuperLite rods. Stronger, lighter, with other improvements, however the micro guides kind of turn me off. Not that there's anything wrong with them, just around here the cotton from the cotton wood trees clogs them guides up on every cast. It's all over a lot of the waters I fish.
  14. I would have to agree with this. I use the Vicious on baitcating gear and like it, but it's a bit to stiff and not limp enough for a spinning reel IMO. The Seaguar is a much better choice for such.
  15. Years ago, braid wasn't nearly as available as it is today. Lots of people several years ago were hesitant to make the switch over. This is true. I was just answering the question of yes you can. Personally I would not use anything but braid for frog fishing, but you can use Mono and Williams was actually pretty dang good at doing so in that time.
  16. I prefer braid but if you look up the guy that actually started the frog crazy during tournaments years ago "Alfred Williams" I believe his name is, all he used was mono.
  17. I mostly fish buddy tournaments in which the boat is loaded to the gills, but every once in a while I will fish as a Co-Angler and really the only tackle box I use for such is a Plano 4600 Two Tier Stowaway. I basically have six of them, each marked and loaded for different lakes that I may fish. The only time I would add an extra box is if I am fishing somewhere where I need some extra deep diving crankbaits of which I have a similar stowaway box for. So two of these boxes per Pro/AM tourney tops, but usually just one. So if I am fishing say Lake Geneva Wis, I grab that box that I loaded with the tackle I use there and the rods and reels (4 to 5 tops unless the rules state less) I need for the lures and techniques, my rain gear just in case, my life jacket, my shades, sunscreen, and few Gatorade's or Dews, maybe some Poptarts or something to snack on, and I am on my way. The only drawback is if you have never fished the lake before, you may not know what to pack that 4600 with. The one thing they all have in common though is, jig & craws, some crankbaits, some plastic's, spinnerbaits, always at least a couple of frogs, some topwaters, hooks, sinkers and Megastrike. The rest is all based and any info I have on that body of water and I do research as much as I can before hand. Once you learn and fish the lake you will know what to pack that 4600 with next time. Hope that helps some. Everyone has there own system and this is just what works for me. Edit: I just noticed Plano has a little larger size 4700. might want to check that one out also.
  18. Don't know if there still in print, but Doug Hannon has a couple good books. The In-Fisherman Books are good, in fact must reads IMO. I read these over every winter, good stuff to help with the cabin fever around here. Waiting for a copy of Big Bass Zone to show up in the mail today. No clue if it's any good, will let you know after I read it.
  19. 1. Spro Popper 2. Spro 65 3. Scum Frog Popper (Not the best built frog, nor the easiest to cast, but this puppy has produced hundreds of bass for me over the years. It's still my go to frog come tournament time for it flat out produces) 4. Mann's Super Frog in Poison Dart Color Maybe Mad Max in that list also. Just got a couple of the new ones, they seem pretty good especially since there using softer material now, but I have not fished them yet. The Furbit that someone here asked about would be in that list also, however it a little over priced at 11 bucks and the legs don't stay in to well. I have caught some nice bass on it though. But with the Spros being $8.49 and the Scum Frogs being $2.79, I don;t see myself buying many Furbits if any more at all.
  20. It is true, they are no more. I really liked there Craws as well as worms, ordered them direct by the 100 count bags. Some of the nicest people to talk with to, always helpful. Have been milking the ones I still have for tournament use only. Really surprised that someone did not offer to buy them out for they made some great products.
  21. It's legit. Been a member for years. FLW is another good one, along with Bass West. The only two I had problems with where Bassin, in that I paid but hardly ever got a mag and North American Fisherman of which not only did I not receive more then two issues they kept sending me stuff I never ordered and billing me for it. They gave the option to send it back, but I don't have time for that garbage. if I want it I will order it.
  22. My favorite was Charlies Worms but they are no longer in biz so I would have to say Zoom and or Netbait.
  23. The one discontinued product, not a lure but a line, that really gets my goat is Stren Super Braid. Final draw for me and Stren of which products I have been using for over 20 years. Won't be buying there products anymore for they discontinue stuff as fast as they put it out so what's the point of building up confidence in something that's only around a short time. As for lure's, Charlies Worms went belly up this year so I guess you could say my favorite line of soft plastics has been discontinued. Colors, not sure if it discontinued but it sure is hard to find Culprit style worms in blue firetail these days.
  24. They where suppose to have some new for 2010 floating snakes, but I have yet to see them anywhere.
