  1. Speaking of Baitmate, I have had some success with it and bass, but where it really shines for me is in Trout fishing. Years ago when Baitmate first came out, I was at a fishing expo and Baitmate was handing out free samples. They had a kiddie Trout pond there and none of the kids where having any luck. I sprayed some on my kids setup and right away he got a trout. Since that day I have used it many times while out trout fishing and to this day it still produces trout when nothing else is working.
  2. I have been wondering the same thing. I am new to PP since the brilliant ones (Yeah Brilliant Alright) at Stren discontinued Super Braid. What confuses me is that PP at Gander Mountain has a label that says NEW And Improved where as the PP at Wally World does not have this label. Everything else looks the same but it makes me wonder just how old the PP is at Wally World.
  3. HUH? Is Culprit out of biz or just discontinuing some products?
  4. I have tried just about all them since the 80's and for me anyways, Megastrike just plain works period! Like Bobby says, Confidence plus Megastrike is the ticket. Not only do I get more strikes, I believe it has helped my hookup ratio tremendously, especially when used on hollow body frogs and other topwater lures. They get a taste of that stuff and they don't want to let go. Now its no more magic then a Spro Frog, you still have to be in the right place at the right time doing the right thing, but it is IMO something that ups the odds in getting that strike from those bass of whom ignore your offering even if your meeting the above requirements. It;s like this, you could maybe make your dog respond to a toy hot dog, but wave a real hot dog in front of his face and he will go nuts trying to get it from you. Meagstrike is no toy, it's turns your lures into the real deal, at least from a bass's point of view. It looks real, it smells real, it taste real, BAM!
  5. Excel. My fishing partner has a few of them and I have to admit there much better then I thought they would be in that price range. Actions and feel are very similar to the Certified Pro Blanks, although I don;t think the rumors are true that they are Certified Pro Blanks, but pretty dang close IMO.
  6. Yeah ,what do you mean sinkers? These frogs are perfect right out of the box they never sink : Must just be our imagination. LOL. I have got a few sinkers, but I have got a few sinkers from other company's to. You make a million frogs a year and there's bound to be a couple lemons in there somewhere, but over all I could not be happier then I am with a Spro tied on.
  7. Tough choice. Rod = G.Loomis MBR844c for worms and such, also works well for frogs in open to sparse cover, or the Quantum Tour PT PT6107F, best dang rod for casting and working Jig's that I have ever owned. To tough to call for I love them both, actually I love all my Loomis and Quantum PT rods, however I could not chose between the two mentioned for there both my favorite that I am taking to the grave with me. Reel = Quantum Tour PT Line = Braid was Super Braid till it got discontinued, have not found a replacement yet. Mono= Vicious Ultimate. Flouro = No Favorite, still trying them all one at a time.
  8. I to love the Spro frogs, especially the Popper model. I have had a few of the model 65 turn out to be sinkers right out of the package. I mark these with a dot with a Sharpie to separate them from the non sinkers and use them in the real heavy mats. The mats will keep the frog on top, but where the sinkers really shine is when your working the mat and you let the sinker drop into a hole in the mat. There are days when that slow sink into a hole in the mat drives them bass wild.
  9. Been using Hildebrandt Spinnerbaits for at least 15 years now and hopefully will be using them for the next 15 years.
  10. The thing is, with a frog chances are your going to be throwing them frogs up in some heavy cover where a heavy action rod is a good idea, and 7ft plus is also good for frogs, however your going to want some give with treble hook topwaters, a little lighter action rod M to MH and unless your casting a mile, a rod shorter then 7ft, say a 6"6 to 6"10 would be a better option for most treble hook topwaters. Not to sure that rod would cover you with both. You can probably get by with it, but IMO if would not be the best option to cover both if that's even possible. I am sure it's possible but I don't think it may be possible to have a rod with enough give for trebles yet enough power for frogs. I hope that makes sense. Although Rick Clunn uses Heavy action rods for topwaters, but that's Rick Clunn of which I am not in the same league as him. Just my opinion.
  11. Could be the reel itself. I have seen where if the worm gear is dirty, has any debris on or in the grooves, or not cleaned and lubed properly, this issue. Also, probably not the case if this is a new reel, but a worn worm gear paw can do this also.
  12. For me it's the release. Naturally the strike, the fight and the landing are all good, but when I release that beautiful wonder of nature and she swims away to challenge yet again another day, that's the moment that brings me the most joy.
  13. YUK! LOL Seriously though, with all joking aside. I really do like and believe in the product. It works very well for me. Thank You!
  14. I started adding MegaStrike to all my Frogs last year and won't ever fish one without it again. My hookup ratio is outstanding since I started using MegaStrike. The bass just love the taste of this stuff. Plus I have seen with my own eyes, not on a TV commercial, fishing show or in some tank somewhere, but with my own eyes on my own waters, bass that would come up and take a close look at my frog but not strike it without the Mega, then two seconds after I added Megastrike those same bass just hammered it. One word of warning though. If you ever stop making it I will hunt you down, tie you up and make you drink a bottle of Fish Formula with Sparkle Scales that has been sitting in my garage since the 80's. LOL
  15. Congrats on the catch! Nothing like a Frog Bite.
  16. I have two of these and a few other bantam models, including one of which was a two speed reel. Not sure if any of them work anymore, nor what box they may be buried in around here for I have not used them in many many years, but at the time they where great reels. Used them on Shimano Speed Master rods of which I have two of those also and one Bullwhip rod around here somewhere. Was the setup to have back in the 80's early 90's, well until I started replacing them with Loomis rods and Quantum reels that is and that's only because Shimano stopped making those reels, the Loomis rod speaks for itself. HEHE.
  17. I wish I knew that Stren was discontinuing Super for I would have spent the mortgage and two car payments to stock up on the stuff. The wife would have killed me and buried me with my fishing line, but there's fishing in Heaven I am sure, just got to get her to bury me with my Frog setup to and I am set to go. LOL
  18. Well I picked up a spool of 65lb test for Frog fishing so will see how she goes this time around. I know what you mean iceintheveins. My favorite braid was replaced with Sonic Braid upon which Stren claims is better then Super Braid was. New and Improved? New maybe, an ok braid, but it's not no Super Braid. > Thanks again for the reply's guys. Hopefully this new PP works out for me.
  19. Personally my two favorite rods for fishing frogs are the G.Loomis GL3 MBR844C and G.Loomis GL3 MBR845C. Both are 7ft heavy action rods with the 845 being a little more powerful for the real heavy cover. I probably own 10 different brands of frog rods, I am a frog nut what can I say, but keep coming back to these two rods for they just feel and perform right to me. GL3 don't have the following the IMX or GLX does and for other things such as worms and jigs the IMX and GLX blows the GL3 away, but for throwing the frog it's perfect IMO. I have also heard, but do not own one yet, that the MossyBack BCR875 makes for a great frog rod. It's a 7'3 mag heavy rod. Basically a 7ft plus heavy action rod with a fast tip is what I am getting at, but if you can afford the G.Loomis it's the ticket.
  20. Thanks all. I guess I will have to give it another try. Dang it! I knew I should have bought it while I was there. I guess Jr will be happy for he will get another 35 minutes driving time there and 35 minutes back for his driving permit hours.
  21. Maybe I am a little late to the party but last weekend on my way to fishing I stopped and ran into Gander Mountain to pickup a few more Frogs for the trip and noticed that all the Power Pro Braid had an Improved sticker on them. Due to the fact that I was in a rush and that I also have not been a big fan of PP in the past I really did not pay much attention to it, but it's been on my mine all week, as if the fishing gods or that dam bait monkey are trying to tell me something. So my question to all you PP users is whats been improved?
  22. I have tried just about every scent on the market and they have all ended up collecting dust in my garage with the exception of one. Heck I still have bottles of Fish Formula from the 80's in my garage. LOL Megastrike strike made a believer out of me. One day I was fishing a clear lake in fairly open water with a frog. I watched as bass after bass would swim up to and even bump my frog with there nose but not take it. I put a little Megastrike on my frog and Bam. The lookers became hookers. Now I have had days when nothing would work, even Megastrike, but after that one day I won't be fishing any Frogs without it ever again. It's not magic, but when there being finicky and extremely picky I believe it does help. One other plus is, especially with frogs, is once they taste the stuff they do hold on longer giving me much better hookup ratios. In fact the only other lures I ever used that worked as well as far as Bass holding on and not letting go where back in the days when Mr. Twister made there plastics with Banana scent, as crazy as that sounds the bass around here loved the stuff. Not even Berkley's Power Baits come close to adding Megastrike to unscented plastics in my experience. (Dang. If Megastrike don't sponsor me after this post. J/K LOL) Edit: I lied for I forgot about another scent that has worked for me also and thats Edge Hot Sauce Gel. Since I started using Megastrike last year Edge has kinda taken a back seat, but that's good stuff to. There was also, back somewhere around the 80's a scent that came in a chap stick tube kind of like BioEdge that also worked good, but it's no longer made. Basically what I am getting at is there are some scents that do work or did work back in the day, but nothing works as well for me as Megastrike does today.
  23. I fish allot of ponds also and generally stick to the 4 basic food groups. 1. Jig & Craw (black/blue works everywhere) 2. Spinnerbaits 3. Shallow to Med diving Cranks (Big-O in craw color, Bomber 6a in Craw, Silver Shad or Baby Bass) 4. Plastic Worms And for desert Frogs, Frogs, Frogs. (Scum Frog Popper. Spro Popper and Mann's Super Frog work for me) One other lure that has worked for me in every pond I have ever fished is the Rapala Countdown Minnow in Silver/Black. I believe its the CD9 size.
  24. I own several IMX and GL3 rods including the one mentioned here. I have no clue why the GL3 gets a bad rap for they are excellent rods for things in which you do not need the extra sensitivity of IMX. Granted you could find cheaper for such task, such as the Quantum PT Rods of which I also love and many others, but the GL3 is a very well built rod and has the same backing from the company as there IMX or GLX rods. Side Note: The GL3 843 I think makes for a pretty dang good topwater rod. It may be rated as a MH but it actually feels more like a med to me. It's sister and shorter model the GL3 783 I find to be one heck of a shallow crank rod for lures such as the Big O or similar. The GL3 845c makes for one heck of a 7ft Frog rod IMO, even though it's not listed as a frog rod. I like to use it over longer frog rods when say fishing channels or in tighter quarters in where you are not making mile long cast, although it will work for such, the longer rods are better for that. Basically I like the GL3 for things that don't require allot of sensitivity although they are sensitive rods, just not IMX sensitive. There light enough to fish all day and strong enough to hall in the big boys. Price wise however you may find a better deal to do the same thing, but if you like Loomis rods, there good rods.
