  1. grimlin, we probably fish the same waters...StClair, SC river, Det river, Erie. not so much that I want to fish faster, just want to fish my bait, not just drag it. I have a 17' alum and I slow the drag down with 2 large socks...thats slow! I will do what it takes to catch 'em and have fun!
  2. definitely my drop shot techniques need improving. I guess I need to get out by myself occasionally and just practice.
  3. not so much do I loathe it (Shakespeare flashback?), but dragging tubes is definitely my least favourite way to fish even though we catch a ton of good fish with it. I would rather actively cast and retrieve almost anything else.
  4. just a side note to Great Lakes Bass...if anyone is interested in fishing Lake StClair next fall, just have a look at their pics and video of the trip with Scott Dobson from the first or second week of Nov...fives for everyone on board! TJ
  5. sorry Dwight, no pic. too much excitement, I guess. didnt remove it from the water...wasnt deep and thick anyways, just a blast to catch. TJ
  6. just saw this today...sorry if you have already left. my experience around Huntsville has been in basically small dishpan lakes with very little cover. fish every piece of everything you can see. natural colours. I started small (on rec. of a local) and sized up as I fished. tubes, senkos, grubs. topwaters were not good for us but I fished 'em hard 'cause I love fishing them. NBR gave you a good starting point. TJ
  7. been awhile since Ive been on...taking care of dad. my 2 sons and I got out yesterday and we caught a bunch of smallies, of which 5 were 3+. I even caught one of the bigger fish while the boys were swimming off the other end of the boat! deeper water (18fow) with weeds was the answer today, mostly tubes but also a carolina craw did the trick on the rocks. pulled a 36" muskie out of the same weeds on a tube...man what a crazy fish! good fishing to all. TJ
  8. ...for Bass Resource members like the one time 10% that Tackle Warehouse offers? I have the TW link. Tim J ...oops...ok now.
  9. I love a topwater bite, pop-r's/buzzbaits, but my favourite moment has got to be when a big smallie hits a fast moving spinnerbait...just about tears the rod out of your hands! You KNOW you have a good fish on. TJ
  10. hey Nate...just noticed that you really look like Darren McCarty, an ex-Detroit Red Wing. TJ
  11. Thanks for the opportunity. Done. Tim J
  12. welcome from another southern ontario bass...I should have just copied and pasted OB...except for the "new" part! this IS a great site! TJ

    welcome TJ
  14. I was surprised I didn't read it before Lund Expl...target any species. Just go fishing! You'll know how you feel and react accordingly. You may not want to be as deep into it as you were, maybe just a hobby now instead of an obsession. Good luck with this. Enjoy yourself. TJ
  15. I only use crossloks in sizes 1 and 3. Never had one break. The theory is that they tighten themselves as pressure is applied and it seems right. Also, no outward wire to grab weeds as in some other types of snaps. TJ
  16. monster catches in numbers and some actual monsters. first person reports include Fighting Is, salt mines, steel mill, Trenton channel, Caesars, the run west of the bridge...wow! easy vertical jigging, depths vary but they are up out of the deep channel. good luck TJ

  21. A few of you pm'ed me with info and some of you helped me indirectly by posting to others. Just want to thank you all. Even though we didn't get that 10+ that we dream about in FLA, our trip to Toho was a success in that the boys both caught decent fish and we had fun. Oh yeah, my worst nightmare didn't happen...the trailer was 100%! Easy tow for us. Great adventure! Your help was appreciated. Maybe we'll be down in 2 yrs time...at least I have a map now. lol Tim J PS...the bottom pic is that of a Windsor (northern) guy bass fishing in March! couldn't wipe the smile off my face!
  22. thanks for the help guys. trips over...back to Canada. TJ
  23. appreciate the help. thats what we did but no takers. nice morning to fish though...trips over! back to Canada. thanks for the help to all. TJ
  24. thanks Lee. I bought them there twice this week and they were medium domestic...was looking for the large size. I didn't realize that there was a shortage in the area. we are probably going to do some shore fishing, even if it's with shiners near big toho, unless we can find a small lake or pond relatively close. TJ
  25. ...near the mile markers? what about international drive...sea world parking lot pond(s)? the kids don't want to make an adventure out of a trip tomorrow since we have to prep to leave then catch our Tigers play a nite game at the Braves. I have to keep reminding myself that this is their vacation, not a fishing trip...but I keep on trying! I appreciated the info on the shiners. thanks guys. I realize that we could fish off shore near the Kiss. ramp or off the fishing pier just north of the ramp, also. TJ
