Fantastic! And on a jig, nonetheless!! Welcome to the addiction.

    Welcome aboard, Chewy!

  9. When one of our local reservoirs is flooded, I move in on the shorelines, often I'll use weighted wacky. Caught on a spinnerbait the other day right at the flooded shoreline. But that was the only catch that day. I did try to throw nearly every color worm I had on hand. Nada. And the spinnerbait got no more strikes thereafter. So I tooled around in my yak and enjoyed the time out despite no more fish.
  10. Agree with hooah, see if Gander will redo the job for you. Also, though, what kind of lure were you throwing? If a heavy lure, you could have gone down to the backing, but if the employee actually spooled 75 yards, that probably shouldn't have happened. I spool maybe 10 yards of mono first, then fill the rest of my reels with 10lb PP. Only times I've hit the backing is when I had to cut back for snags, etc., and the braid dwindles down. I still fish it that way, just use it for shorter quarters.

  12. Be strong! Good on ya, mate!
  13. A lot of folks will wear some sort of winter water wear... I don't have anything like that but when I go out and it is cold, I usually wear sweats under a pair of jeans, and a coat over top of my PFD (always wear one!!). I have gloves from BPS with the fingers cut out so I can feel the line, etc. I'm also in a yak that doesn't get wet except from the paddle, or when I pull a fish in to weigh and measure. If you get the 115 you'll probably want to plug your scupper holes to keep a bit drier.
  14. I have experience with the Stradic FI 1000 models, and the Lexa 2000 SH. Also other lower-end Shimanos, but I'll just compare the two mentioned. Like the management of both. Think both have great abilities. I use braid, so twist is not that big of an issue. Both lay braided line down just fine. Not the answer you were looking for, probably, but that's just my limited experience.
  15. I ended up motorizing my kayak with a minn kota 30. Had to register here in VA. No biggie. Makes a huge difference in getting places, keeping "hands-free" when fishing in certain areas, etc. Wife and kids want a boat -- for skiing and such. I'd prefer to stick with the yak. LOL
  16. Definitely tradeoffs. You can take a friend with you in the jon boat. You can move the kayak by yourself to wherever. You can't with the jon boat. You can customize either with the layout you like to fish in. Portability. Kayak, hands down. Just my .02. I considered a jon boat before I decided on kayak fishing, too. No regrets at all going the kayak route.
  17. Welcome, Brandon!
  18. Great catch! Digital or spring scale, just get one!
  19. I recently answered a similar thread that I was (once again) keeping my soft plastics in original bags inside gallon ziplocks. I'm now keeping my most used soft plastics inside three 3600 sized BPS boxes, and one for my hard plastics. Then I keep the "rest" of the soft plastics under my kayak seat in ziplocks, and in a large plastic bin. So I've compromised. Also mentioned that I am constantly evolving in my setup. I find one method that works great, but encounter something that irritates me and I'll switch out to something else. Now I'm at a mix of methods. Will see how long that lasts. But I completely agree with others, it's far easier to see what you've got by a glance of your Plano box (at least mine), and to keep things organized, inventory up-to-stock, etc.
