  1. the effectiveness of the wacky rig is the action it imparts to the plastic used.any weight would kill the action.even the weight of the hook affects the action and rate of fall.in essence the weight of the hook is your weight.let it fall on a slack line as to impart as much natural action of the plastic as possible.let it sit as long as you can stand it.pull up to surface and repeat process.lately ive been pitching a wacky trick worm and senko up against grass lines.the bass are in the grass, let it fall pull and pitch again.
  2. 50# braid has no stretch and puts alot of strain on leader.change the transition to a heavier # test flouro leader material.if your using 10# test move up yo 12.also use a palomar knot ,wet it good and pull it up slow.flouro is bad for heating at the knot and weakening, causing it to fail.
  3. you can use bigger hooks and baits if you want.dropshotting is a finess technique when the bite is tough, designed to be used with lite line and downsized baits but can be used w/ conventional tackle and luresdepending where your using it.it is being used more and more in shallow water situations, in grass, where 6# line isnt feasible.i sometimes use a #1 gammy bait hook w/ 12#line and a 6'' trickworm and a 3-8 weight in shallow grass.
  4. in fla. we have plenty of submersive vegetation, looks like hydrilla.bass love the stuff, you find that type of veg. and youll find bass.topwater throw a horny toad on pretty heavy line.even a small bass will wrap you in a heartbeat.if its not topped out yet you can throw your treble baits but youll have less aggravation w/ weedless t-rigged plastics.flukes are excellent also.most of the time your going to have to get down in that stuff to get bit.weightless senkos fished in the pockets or less dense areas are killer.for the thicker stuff use as much lead as necassary to penetrate through ,let it go to bottom, raise up untill you fill resistance then shake bait for at least 10 sec.,drop back down let rest a moment, repeat .pull out throw back in ,repeat.pick are area and committ to it for awhile, dont be movin around alot as youll spook the fish close by .the fish in that stuff will come to you.dont be afraid to get in there and get messy ,thats where the fish are at.fish big plastics 10-12'' worms and hop em up and down.bigger profile baits are easier for them to see.your gonna get fouled alot but dont let it discourage you, make it your friend and youll be rewarded.
  5. if a bass is following and not hitting or nudging something about the bait aint quite right.not the right color or size or shape or action.usually in that situation if you cant change baits do something where the fish dont get a good look at it and strike out of instinct(reaction strike)sometimes no matter what you do they aint gonna hit it!
  6. what offends me is that i and my family have to be subjected to such.the e-tec commercial offends me the same way.me and my 10 yr. old daughter were watching sat. morning fishing shows and within the morning i had to switch channels because of a e.d. add, the e-tec, and gulp adds.i dont want my daughter subjected to such stuff.corporate america is effectively desensitizing society standards so we accept more and more trash into our lives and into our minds.i dont find it funny, humerous or effective selling tools.i find it degrading to my moreas, as well as offensive to my child >
  7. anything i can flip.or anything i can pitch into hydrilla.if its a lake w/ any contour a c-rig plastic
  8. ive done both for many yrs. and i dont find fishing is anything like golf.golf is a given, your ability to put a little ball in a hole. fishing is a variable, its you vs. one of the smartest predators that lives in water.if you relate catch as your success in fishing you will be constantly frustrated, because there is more fishing than catching.if you will relate it to being in tune w/ nature and enjoy one of gods great creations you will be satisfied every time you go FISHING.the fastest way to learn how to fish is go w/ someone who knows how.join a club that accepts non-boaters and spend a yr. in the back of a boat of different ones who know how and learn from each of them even if they atent good fishermen they can teach you something you didnt know.most of all have fun, always.
  9. i think all of you are getting way in over your head on this. im no expert but i did stay at a holiday inn last nite!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
  10. weather conditions can only be spoken of as generalities.weather conditions DONT affect fish.change in conditions mostly pressure DO affect fish behavior.they will become more or less active in certain locations.the higher the pressure the less active and deeper they have to go to stay comfortable, but they still have to and will eat, usually when the gravitational pull makes them feel comfortable to eat.there again bass are predatory and you put something for them to eat in front of them and they will eat it.2 keys bar. pressure tells you where the best place to look for bass and moon phase tells you what and how to present bait.weather conditions are for fishermen not fish.always fish when you can.the pros prove this week in and week out they catch fish in every condition regardless!

rolo nailed w/ the topwater bite is the best all yr. right after spawn. the bass havent moved to the deeper water yet and are super aggressive once they recover and are looking to feed.they are still protecting their fry and are reactive and the topwater gets em excited.
  12. shallow running squared billed crankbait.it will take some practice on retrieve so as not to get hung up much but worth the time. another good bait is a chatterbait worked erractically and let it fall after hitting wood.use braid or 25#+ line like xt.tubes and jigs and always a zzom trickworm or senko fished SLOOOOOW.
  13. toothpicks not only get stuck but they DO weaken your line.i do what depoy does.i tie a double over hand knot in a rubberband and clip it off close and slide it down on top of weight.it works good.it also lets the weight slide while fighting a fish.i also use the gambler rattlin fl.rig but as stated it can be a pain and after awhile the rubber core wears out
  14. in fl. bass live in the weeds and grass and a very effective way to get them out is a weightless plastic.for me usually a trick worm.even a 1/8 oz. weight reduces the bite.i fish all the lures when appropriate, but once the sun gets up the bass bury themselves in the grass.sometimes you have to have a weight to get to them but if there is a way to flutter a plastic down to them it is most effective.i fished years w/ only worms

  16. my first yr. fishing fom and just qualified for the regional this past weekend. i fish the fla. central div. which is the largest div. of any fom regions in the u.s. w/ 60+ teams.great trail w/ good payouts and i just love the fri. nite service that shares the word of god w/ sinners and christians alike. were hoping to have a n.fla. div. next yr. as its 100+ miles for me to travel to tx.
  17. not knowing the quality of your d.f. or the settings, most will at least show you a difference from the bottom.hydrilla, millfoil, and the likes will show up as a spike on you screen.if your not sure run a bait with trebles down and see if yiou pull up weed(grass).as far as a fishfinder finding fish that you can target and catch ,in most instances its not going to happen.true, in deeper water points that show fish relating to structure you may be able to fish for fish your seeing, but mostly its a area locating device that tells you it has the right ingredients to hold fish.those that have yrs. of experience w/ electronics can decipher what there seeing much better than the avg. angler
  18. fla.... weeds, primarily hydrilla, millfoil, coontail, and eel grass where present.wood is good in some places rodmans, rouseau, and the hot spot seems to be the stump fields in stick marsh.if you havent read the report in locations...s.e. about recent catches in stick marsh they are impressive. in the shallow lakes in n.fla. you fish grasses or you go home. even the sjr eel grass is a mojor holding area.
  19. dishnetwork dropped oln, which is where c.p. aired.i sell dish but am considering getting directv just to get oln.it has other good fishin shows that i am missing. :'(
  20. THE ROAR OF THE MULTITUDE OF MOSQUITOES AT DAWN AND DUSK,BIG FAT BULLFROGS CROAKIN,A BULL GATOR CALLIN UP A MATE.THE HOOT OF A LONELY OWL...WHO-WHOO-WHO-WHOOO!!!....THAT SMALL STILL VOICE WHEN ITS JUST ME AND HIM AND THIS WONDERFUL WORLD OF NATURE HE CREATED....SORRY ABOUT THE SHOUTIN
  21. i usually fish alone, well almost, me and the lord talk alot when im fishin alone,i would like to find a compatable tx. partner but so far ive never found one that we feed off each other.i would love for my wife to fish w/ me but she cares nothing about fishing.i have taken my daughter out and hope to do more of that.but when im bass fishin i prefer to fish alone.
  22. certain types of t.w. baits are designed for certain conditions, imo, some ripple is better for t.w. because the fish cant tell as good if its a live morsel or a imitation.if there is no ripple(glassy conditions)i usually try to keep it movin so they cant get a good look at the bait and strike out of reaction.low light can do the same thing.
  23. to catch fish on any bait you have to develop confidence, even if you arent catching fish on it.if you dont have any confidence in a s.b. i wouldnt throw it.it does catch fish though.
