  1. if your using a graphite rod you deffinitely need mono.w/ a glass rod flouro might get you a ft. deeper or so.if your trying to get 15' or more deep then flouro might help you do that.i use an40 thin diameter co-polymer w/ a composite rod.
  2. F=failing espn has ruined bass fishing coverage.flw has em beat hands down
  3. a tip for those who dont already know.when rigging a strait shank hook.try snelling the hook w/ a uni knot.run tag end ( point side)thru eye make loop pass tag end around shank and thru loop 5 times and shinch.if your using a weight ,grab weight between fingers and pull down to hook eye.if snelled properly hook should flip point up to 90 deg.which should and does result in better hook ratio.in flippin this makes a world of difference in hook ups.to those of you that are happy w/ what you use now this doesnt apply to you,but to those who want that extra edge this is the ticket.YES,the plastic dont stay on as good as a offset but there are remedies for that also.as avid said if you fish weeds the s.s. works great.
  4. make weeds your friend!
  5. i heard travis is known for numbers of small bass no matter what they use.finess fishin in the dead of winter is not new.fish are deep and want smaller offerings.kvd caught a 12# on a shakey head last yr.,a friend of mine just caught a 12# out of 40'+ water on a d.s..finess techniques catch fish when all other tactics fail.
  6. noise IS relative.a lake i fish has a canal from the ramp to the lake . at times bait congregates at the mouth which brings in the bass.sometimes large ones.i have made a day sitting at the mouth of the canal as all the other boats go by looking for fish.many times the best action was when a boat came whizzing by.it stirred up the bait and turned the fish on.some boats out of respect would idle by but they did nothing for the bite.it was the guys who you see running all over the lake that think they own the place and come flying by that made my day. on the other end of the canal is a smaller lake, real shallow,i fish and catch many bass out of. i have been on a good bite and just a couple boats come whizzing by and the bite QUITS for 30 min. or more.time and time again if that lake gets a few of the idiots on it you might as well go over to sampson, cause they'll shut it down in a hurry. when i fished out of my jon boat i pulled into this little cove that a friend was fishing in and pullin in bass one after another.i eased over to the opposite side and in attempting to lower my anchor i dropped it on the aluminum flooring making a loud noise .he didnt get another bite. i could see the fire in his eyes and could read his mind and i agreed.he picked up anchor and moved on.i sat there for awhile and didnt get bit either.noise is relative.

i just got one from all-terrain tackle,3/8 oz. in blue shimmer shad.havent got bit on it yet but only tried it once.
  13. matt, you maybe able to help me out. i live in fla. but want to throw a 7to 9'' golden shiner swimbait that resembles the real deal.ive been on the web and found some sites rhat carry golden shiner swimbaits but none look like a golden shiner, only in color but not shape.i did find one wooden triple jointed bait that caught my eye.in your opinion does shape make much difference and what type of bait should i be lookin for i.e. wood or plastic.any insight or help would be appreciated, thnx, mike
  14. very versatile, can be fished any way you want.they are better for me in the summer when you want a bulky profile bait.i mainly use them as a flippin bait in summer.black/bluew/silver glitter,or watermelom red w/ gold glitter
  15. i started useing the d.s. last yr.here in n. fla. first it was in deep water lakes but now i always have one tied on and use it like a t-rig or c-rig,especially in submerged grass.it gets the bait up above the grass.the elongated finess weight work best in grass,no snags.i mostly use a bullet weight in grass.in deep water i use spinning gear w/ 8# an 40,and in the weeds or casting i use casting gear w/ 10 # an 40 and heavier if need be.i use d.s. in deeper water to give em a stationary bait they dont often see,but i mainly use it in shallow water to get it up off the bottom.i also use d.s. when the bite gets tough.i'll admit so far i havent boated any fish over 2 1/2 lbs. using it but a friend of mine caught a 12 3/4 in kingsley a couple mths. back in 40' of water on a finess worm.i too have found you have to retie after awhile even if you dont catch a fish .the knot and running the tag end back thru the eye get weak after awhile.i can definetely say the d.s has put some fish in the boat i wouldnt have caught otherwise.
  16. i heard everything was big in texas, price of their maps too.!!!
  17. there is a guy who has fished rodmans for many yrs. and won numerous tx. fishing the devils horse.they call him top water charlie
  18. zoom,zoom,zoom....trick worm,finess,speedworm,ole monster cant be beat!!!
  19. the zoom super fluke is a very versatile bait.you can rig it in many different ways depending on the cover and depth you want to use it.it is a bass catcher in any season.color is your preference.i keep changing untill i find a color they want.i like baby bass in post spawn and fall.arkansaw shiner in the summer, and shad variations in spawn and clear water, and chartruese, bubblegum, and bright colors in stained waters.in most situations i use a swivel about 18'' long to help w/ spinning and line twist.also use a 4/0 wide gap hook.personally i dont like the 3x flukes they tend to bunch up on hookset and i miss too many fish useing them so i stay w/ zoom or bass assassin
  20. rod hands down.that is what YOU feel.i rather have a avg. reel on a good rod instead of a avg. rod on a good reel.....
  21. to each his own. when worm fishing i want something thats going to get the worm to the bottom as natural as possible.i want something that is super sensitive,w/ very little stretch so i can get a good hookset. i want it to be abrasive resistant so i can go in the thick stuff. i dont want it to be in anyway a hinderance to a bass eating my worm,so i want it to be invisible. mono fits the bill on a few of those points,so does braid, but flouro or even co-polymer has all those characteristics.....
  22. i'll put my g-blanks up against any rod for feel, balance, and performance.made w/ the shikari s-1 blanks which is as good a blank as any made.they may not have all the fancy wrap and shine but at $125.00 are the best rod made for the money.
  23. i use em on all applications love the balnce and feel, one day all my rods will be s.g. and no fore grip.mine are g-blanks and kistler mag.ts.
  24. from fishing all kinds of fla. waters for many yrs.watermelon and watermelon red are good in any fla. water.some lakes have local favs. harris chain is known for june bug, toho for red shad,i also find black is good any where i fish it .
