  1. In my opinion, the chigger craw is a great trailer in both the 3 and 4 inch sizes. Basically, that is the only thing I use as a trailer because that is what I have the most confidence in. If I were you I would try these out and a few of the other brands mentioned as well and see what you like best. I'm sure all of the other brands catch quality fish, so the key is finding out what you are most comfortable throwing.
  2. I know, I was amazed when I caught this on a jig while fishing some rip-rap along the mighty Ohio. It was just ounces off of the state record.
  3. Yes, it is a tough lake when you are unfamiliar with it and sometimes even when you are accustomed to fishing it. What do you need to know? I'll do my best because the patterns seem to change on this lake on a daily basis. Quick question. You mentioned that you were fishing a tourney on Rocky Fork on the 13th, correct? I was also planning on fishing that same day there and was wondering if you had any idea of how many boats were in the tourney and what ramp you are going out of?
  4. I'm going fishing Saturday and looking at the forecast the temps are dropping overnight Friday and into Sat. morning. By then, we will have a full week of highs in the upper 50's and lower 60's, and lows in the upper 40's. However, Saturday is only projected to be a high of 48 with a low of 40 with a 30% chance of rain. Any suggestions on what to throw? I haven't been to the lake I'm going to fish this year, so I don't know the clarity and the temps. Thanks for your help.
  5. I actually learned a few new things about my favorite reels. Thanks for the video.
  6. Also, you can look out a tinted window of a car. If you see a rainbow like glare while looking out of the window, they are polarized.
  7. I wasn't sure about ebay or not, but I was just playing it safe with him. I ordered a rod from UnitedOutdoors that broke in transit. I emailed them and told them and that same day, they shipped a new one to me. Within one week, I received 2 rods from them. Fast shipping and excellent customer service and I recommend purchasing items from them off of ebay.
  8. Pitching a 3/8 oz. booyah boo jig w/ a berkley chigger craw as a trailer in and around cover. Always produces for me, even in the heat of the summer.
  9. x2 except I would prefer a 7' rod
  10. I really don't understand this because there are hundreds of places you can order the reels from. It doesn't have to be Abu's site if this is where you ordered it from. The rebate qualifies from anywhere except for Ebay I believe; I got my revo STX from BPS. Anyways, it took me 4 weeks to get the glasses which isn't bad in my opinion because any rebate takes a while to receive and they are a free pair of quality sunglasses. Plus, Revo's are excellent reels (I own 4). I am unable to compare the Wiley's to another pair of nice glasses because I only used to buy cheap glasses, so the rebate was nice. They work well and fit my fat head nicely, so I don't have any complaints. Revo's are fantastic reels, so you don't have anything to lose in ordering the reel. If you don't like the glasses, sell them on the flea market and buy a pair in which you do like. It's a win-win situation no matter what.
  11. x2 and you can't go wrong with a texas riged worm.
  12. For lipped crankbaits I always buy bomber fat free shads, square A's, and model A's. I keep it simple by sticking to 3 primary colors: foxy (sexy) shad, something chartreusey like the rootbeer chartreuse that has killed it for me, and some sort of craw or red colored crankbait. As for lipless cranks I always buy the red eyed shads and I stick to basically the same color patterns except for the sexy shad color is the chrome blue or chrome black back and I have has success with the Tennessee metallic shad as well. I've learned over the years to load up on the certain colors that produce for me instead of buying 1 of every color.
  13. True, he wasn't very informative. However, that was the first time he has ever fished it, so you have to cut him some slack. I'm not sure if I'm completely sold on it yet. I will probably buy it and experiment a little with it. I did like his idea about using it on a c-rig though. That could definately produce.
  14. I had the same thing occur with a friend who wanted to get into fishing. He had some spinning gear and was curious about baitcasters, so I let him borrow one of my combos to practice with at home and when we were out on the water. He got used to it after a few trips (and thousands of casts), and now primarily uses baitcasters. I would tell your friend to buy the spinning outfit and lend him one of your baitcast combos to practice with until he gets the hang of it. Then he can purchase his own combo once his comfort level increases.
  15. I'm looking into purchasing a new rod to use for deep diving crankbaits that will cost no more than $100. Any suggestions on brands or specs? Thanks for your help.
  16. I have the Browning Midas baitcast reel and like others have said it is a good reel. I haven't had any problems with it and I use it for T-Rigs, C-rigs, and the occasional spinnerbait. I got mine in '08 as a birthday gift and the only problem I have with it, is its size and weight. I think the newer models may be different in terms of of that though. I'm not sure. Other than that it has been a solid reel and overall I'm happy with it.
  17. I need to move. Winter sucks!!!
  18. Nice, you will be very happy with the reel and rods. You will find that the wait was worth it. Especially because you got 2 free rods out of the deal, and a free pair of Wiley X's. Basically, you paid $170 for 2 Vendettas, a pair of nice sunglasses, and a quality reel, not too bad. I just received another Vendetta today, via UPS, and when I pulled it out of the tube, the tip was broken. Now I get to pay for the shipping back to the supplier, and wait another couple of weeks to get a new one. So much for the decent deal I thought I was getting. Hopefully it will be here on time for my trip to Florida on the 19th.
  19. I have never used the aqua superstore, but that looks like a great deal. I have the 7'3" H XF Vendetta paired with a SX that I use for pitching jigs and I am very happy with it. I got mine on Ebay for $82 w/ shipping and I thought it was a deal, but the superstore beats that. If you use the superstore, don't forget your promo codes that you can find online for discounts.
  20. Also, I have had success putting senkos on jigheads or carolina rigs and hooking it up like a regular worm. Use black or blue fleck here as well or even green pumpkin with a chartreuse tail and watermelon/ red flake w/ a chartreuse tail.
  21. I became curious after watching that Worlds Strongest Knot show on Versus, and I did a little research and found that a polomar knot is effective, and the rapala knot which you mentioned. I just want to take a survey and see what kinds of knots people use for different techniques. Although I've always heard the strongest knot is the one that you tie best or something like that.
  22. Tubes, Tubes, Tubes. I can't even get a bite with them.
  23. Rocky Fork is one of the most productive lakes in SW Ohio and you should consider fishing other tourneys later in the year there as well; it has quantity and quality. Anyways, for that time of year, I would recommend targeting areas along the north shore with jerkbaits, and 5 inch shakey worms, particularly black w/ blue fleck or straight up blue fleck made by powerbait in 10 - 15 ft. of water. In some spots, they may be deeper. It's a very productive lake most of the time, but mid-march will be tough, so make your bites count because they may be few and far between. Also, dress warm because that lake can turn into a wind tunnel. Good luck and let me know how you do.
  24. My grandfather taught me how to tie a uni knot when I started fishing and I have been tying it ever since. However, when reading about the uni knot, I found that since the knot passes over itself, your chances of having a line break increase, which makes sense. So, are there certain knots for certain presentations? For example: jigs, t-rigs, crankbaits, c-rigs, etc or is there one universal knot that is sufficient and is still able to maintain its strength better than a uni knot. Thanks for the help.
