  1. You may be just a little early. Other than the lakes mentioned, try Ft. Cobb, Vanderwork, Crowder, Foss, all 4 Duncan lakes (Humphries, Duncan, Clear Creek and Fuqua), Rocky, Arbuckle, and Murray to name a few. That should keep you busy for awhile. Check out Hobart Anglers web site. This club fishes lakes near you including Lawtonka, Ellsworth and Ft Cobb.
  2. Which technique is most important? Depends on your water clarity, type of structure, type of cover, time of year and type of fish. For example, most of my water is stained, pretty much reservoirs with not much structure (other than points), with laydowns, stick ups, cattails and some grass beds and I'm fishing for largemouth in the Spring, Summer and Fall. For what I've just described, I'd say flipping and pitching is the most important technique. The most important technique would be different in say, clear lakes with lots of bottom structure in the Winter fishing for Spots or Smallmouth. I think you need to be more specific about what you'll be doing.
  3. Although my Brother and Dad do fish occassionally, I'm the only one that is crazy about the sport. I live and breathe it.
  4. Ditto most of what everyone else said about a successful show. What I won't watch are fishing shows with celebrities fishing or where a less-than-knowledgeable host like Wayne Pearson or Randy something-or-other (he was a professional baseball player) is promoting some lodge or guide. I think the worst or best (depending on your perspective) fishing show I ever saw was the one where the three babes fished in bikinis. I was pretty enthralled until one of them started giving me advice on how to catch fish! Pulease. I thought that was a little much.
  5. I wade and tube. When wading or tubing, I wear stocking foot gore-tex waders made by Hodgman with felt sole wading boots. You'll get a better fit with the wading boots rather than the with the bootfoot waders. The wading boots pull out of the muck better too. You can wear fleece and long handles (several pair even) when it's cold. The problem with neoprene is that they are really hot in the Summer and if you're going to hike a ways in them they can make you sweat like a pig. I wear the Gore Tex waders even in the cold. If you're going to keep fish like crappie or bluegills, buy a mesh zip up bag at Wal Mart that women put hose in to wash in a washing machine, attach a cord to your belt and drag it behind you. Makes a great live well.
  6. I'd ask him what caused him to race by within a foot or two of that spectator boat on TV at dangerously high speed putting his life at risk, waking the competition and then after being DQ'd acting as if HE were the victim and being made a scape goat. And then to top it all off, crying like a school girl on TV. I'd ask him about all that. I'm not a big fan of his after that incident. Also not a fan of his screaming tactics. I'm kind of like the football coach that told his players when they get into the end zone to try and act like they've been there before. Ditto on catching a fish.
