  1. Knowing the type of reel would be of great assistance, but it sounds like you made out great!
  2. That is really awesome. w2g dude.
  3. I am extremely impressed with the Quantum Catalyst's from Cabela's 90$. 6.3 and 7.0 great brakes, Backlashed the first time I used it (my fault, never used one before) haven't had a problem since, (as long as I don't take the brake off for a long distance cast.)
  4. managed to catch my rod before it became a permanent submarine. it was a fresh water reservoir , any recommendations its been 12 hours since the dip.
  5. Thanks everybody, I'm pretty well convinced that the Shimano is the way to go. I really appreciate the input from everybody. If I could re-evaluate the criteria I probably would limit the options to 3, the St Croix Mojo Bass, the Lamiglas Excel, and the Shimano Compre. I'm going to try to get hands on with the Mojo and the Compre at my local BPS, if they had the Excel id put them all to a hands on eval. you guys really helped narrow down the field and I appreciate it.
  6. I have added the shimano to the poll. I'm more or less going off what is available at BPS/Cabela's/GanderMtn.
  7. The Accurist used to be a $100 or better reel. that's a great price/value.
  8. Need some input on what is considered the best rod for the money under 125$, I need 2 rods. 7' Medium Fast paired with a Quantum Catalyst PT 6.4:1 Mono 12#. Used for cranks, plastics, topwater, light cover. 7' MediumHeavy Fast paired with a Quantum Catalyst PT 7.0:1 Braid 10-12# Diameter. Used for cranks, spinnerbaits, frogs, buzzbaits, heavy cover. 2 things to consider; I would prefer Cork split grips, and I probably have a tendency to horse the fish out. any help would be great. anything more than $125 and I would jump up to the St Croix Legend Tournament or a Gold Carrot Stix.
  9. The choice of the Ugly Stik, is just that I've used them and they are inexpensive. Tackletour had a good write up that detailed a number of 100$ rods, I like the feel of a St Croix, they have them at my local gander mtn. The Carbonlite from BPS would also be a consideration, Would it be wise to step up to the Quantum REAX PT? Is the difference in the ACSII vs ACSIII notable? I'm was trying to keep this below 300$, 400$ is acceptable, dual REAX'es will push it over 500$ But if it is worth it, I'd rather spend the money the first time.

  11. Hi, I'm the FNG. I'm looking to make the switch from spinning gear, to bait casting. I'm heavy in the research and think I've found a pairing that will fit my needs, but as we all do, I wanted to ask the vast consciousness that is the collective internet mind. I'm moving from a Ugly Stik 6'6" Medium Fast spinning with a Quantum Snapshot LS 30 w/ power-pro braid. What I think I want is the following setup, 2 rods 2 reels. Setup #1. St. Croix 7' Bass Mojo "Plastics" Medium Fast Quantum Catalyst PT 6.3:1 Fluro/Mono (not sure) for use with cranks, senkos, ribbon tail worms, banjo minnows. (not thinking heavy cover/weeds) Setup #2. St. Croix 7' Bass Mojo "Spinnerbait" MediumHeavy Fast Quantum Catalst PT 7.0:1 Braid (Power Pro/Liquid Casting Braid) Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits, Cranks, Jigs, Frogs. (moderate to heavy cover/weeds) The alternate would be to go with generic Ugly Stik Lite's at 40$/ea. I like the Catalyst PT it seems to be a fine piece of gear, and seems to be on sale everywhere @ ~ 100$/ea. I thank you in advance, if this idea has been discussed at length elsewhere I apologize in advance.
