Beginnings
On the water. You can read up on everything, there are tons of great articles on this site, but nothing compares to experience. If you'd really like to try a tournament, fish as a coangler or in a buddy tournament. Great learning experiences.

Why Flouro?
Less stretch, more abrasion resistance, lowered visibility, faster sink rate (I believe fluoro sinks about 5x faster than mono underwater). Last one is only an advantage if you feel you need a faster fall rate, such as in deep water.

How Long Have Largemouth Bass Existed?
Thanks. I'm not nterested in an argument here either, but it peaked my interest. I know 3 things without a doubt, 1) I was born 2) I will die 3) I'm gonna do a whole lot of bass fishing in between those 2. After that, I have my beliefs and other people have their's. If people spent less time trying to change everyone else, they'd have a lot more time to spend fishing

How Long Have Largemouth Bass Existed?
An honest question here...if these rocks are "known to give inaccurate dates," then why should anyone believe the dating system which led to the belief of 4.5 billion years? In other words, if on error was discovered, how many are left undiscovered?

Help With A Vacation
Hey everyone, Hoping for som help with a Memorial weekend vacation. Some of my friends from hs want to do a short fishing trip that weekend. We're all from the North-central or Northeast part of Iowa, so we're thinking southern MN or southwest WI, since we only have the 3 days. I'm thinking either bass or northern, just so a couple of the less serious fishermen don't get bored. Also looking potentially for a lake with a place to rent a boat also, since I'm not sure if my boat will be available that weekend. Any recommendations?

My Cover/ Resume/ Proposal, Any Suggestions?
Thanks for everything you've done for this country Jeff. Hope this works out for you. One question I have; 4/14 and 8/18 appear that they will be very busy days for you....are you fishing the BFL then a later afternoon tourney?

What's Wrong With Quantum?
I like some of Quantums higher end stuff, but I've had too many bad experiences with the mid to lower end of their lineup. Abu and shimano just make a better overall lineup of casting reels, IMO.

Hardest Thing To Learn?
^^^Great post. Adjusting to the fish. I've had too many bad days in the past because I fished where I caught fish the day/week/month before instead of adjusting to the conditions that day.

What If There Are No Crawdads
I've always though it'd be fun to use those topwater snake lures and see a bass crush one....never done it yet though.

Paca Craw Or Chigger Craw?
Chigger craw for a jig trailer. Never really used either of them T-rigged. Just don't like the hollow Paca Craw on a jig.

What If There Are No Crawdads
Again, I would doubt those ponds have no crayfish in them. Certainly possible, but just because you don't see them, doesn't mean they aren't there. Case in point, my parents small pond. Build in the 80's with no crayfish stocked and the nearest water of any kind is a small creek, maybe 3 feet across and 6 inches deep that's about 1/4-1/2 a mile away through the woods. The nearest pond of any kind is half mile away. I've never once seen a crayfish in that pond, the only reason I know they are there is because it's a type of burrowing crayfish and every now and then a new burrow shows up. Plus once I found on in the mouth of a bass I caught. If it were a non-burrowing species, I would have almost no idea that crayfish lived there. I agree, however, that even if they really aren't there, bass will eat just about anything that looks alive and edible.

What If There Are No Crawdads
I would have an EXTREMELY hard time believeing there are no crayfish in the pond. Crayfish will travel a long ways at certain times of the year and almost any continuous body of water will have them if it's been around for some time. That being said, if there really are no crayfish those lures will still work, but oyu might find better success matching what the bass are actually eating.

Depth Finder Help
Wayne, I was overcome with jealousy when I scrolled down to that pic! Then I noticed (I think) the kickin bass garlic in the holder on your front seat, and realized your boat must stink as much as my truck does during the summer! LOL

Baitcasting In Winter
LOL yes I understand that. I meant you don't have to be as precise with your hands when you have your reel tuned really well and when your used to how the reel is going to act. That allows you to either a) wear gloves or be a tough guy and not have to worry about terrible backlashes when your fingers stop working. You act as if my vague posts weren't self explanatory
-
Baitcasting In Winter
You won't need to be as precise with your hands so you can wear gloves to stay warm and if you decide not to wear them, it's less likely you'll have problems when you lose feeling in your hands.

Baitcasting In Winter
A well tuned reel and plenty of practice with a baitcaster goes a long way.

The Ultimate Rod And Reel
I like the REVOs too and I'd actually probably prefer them. As soon as they come out with the 7.9:1 MGX in a left-hand model, I'm going to be replacing the Chronarch with that.
-
The Ultimate Rod And Reel
The one I just set up. Customized Kistler Z-Bone Heavy action with a Shimano Chronarch 201 e7. I'm making a committment to become more rounded with my techniques this season, but I promise there will be days where I pick up that rod and spend all day pitching isolated bank cover with 20 pound fluoro and a Northstar Premier jig or one of my homemade camo-craw jigs. Is it summer yet?

Ish Monroe Comments At Weigh-In???
I didn't see that particular moment, but form watching Ish other ties, I would imagine he was just giving Wirth a hard time. He rarely seems to be serious. If he was truly taking a shot at him, that's definitely a weird way to plug your sponsors. Easiest way to tell if he was actually mad, did he open up his comments with "Sexy Ish in the hooouuuse!"

Jigs With Braid...leader Or No Leader?
In clear water I use 15-17 pound fluoro. Clear water with heavy cover I use 20 pound. On the muddy Mississippi I use 65 pound braid and don't notice a difference in catch rate from guys using fluoro.

Kvd 1.5 And 2.5 Crankbaits
These general comments apply to any baitcasting set-up and tuning them for frst-time use. 1) Set the brake to zero (if applicable) 2) Adjust spool tension so the lure falls slowly on free-spool. 3) Increae brake to 50% (if applicable) 4) Adjust on the water to maximize distance and minimize backlash.
