I am hopefully going to do this soon. I'm going to buy from Barlowstackle.com. A great store from texas That sell frames in 3 or 10+ packs. I bought a 50 skirt kit from Janns. I think it will be worth the hassle, it will be fun making my own baits while the lakes are frozen. I like to keep my tackle kind of uniform so now all my spinnerbaits will be simple/uniform looking. I can't wait till i catch fish on a bait i made myself.
I follow Mike Iaconelli, I like to see a pro thats from so far north (new jersey) do well. Most Pros grow up in the the south with the unfreezing lakes.
I think Greg Hackney was really good this year, he seemed to be really consistent.
I belive they make a reciver that mounts on the bottom of the bumper that makes it a standard 2" square. Its about as big as you two hands. Its like 2" tubing with a plate on it. I think there is usually three holes in the step bumper. You may have to puch out some plastic. This reciever bolts onto the bumper with those holes and now you can raise or lower the ball. I think it's about $50 and available at most auto parts stores.
I put a Full Hitch on my van and that was almost not worth the hassle. Check out this small reciever and good luck
I haven't tried a black buzz bait, but in stained to dirty water with vegitation i love throwing a charteuse buzz (buzz king). I open water I like Excalibur pop'n Image/jr
Last september I found myself whipping along at 55 mph on Lake Champlain at 7:00am during a tounament in a heavy rainstorm.
I had no console (or winshield)
At that speed water likes to turn to rocks
I now highly value windshields
