  1. I had (have) the same problem with the rusting. I found those zerust tabs and started using them about 2 months ago. Will see how it goes this year. I do open the tackle trays when I get back to let everything dry out for a few days.
  2. Thanks for the info. I will try a clip and see how that works and do a some practice. I hope to get out a bit today for some retention pond fishing. I had also heard they were awesome for river smallies. I am hoping the weather cooperates and I can squeeze in a river trip this coming weekend and see what might happen.
  3. I like the Stren low vis green line, about 8lb or so, just my preference....
  4. I picked a few of the Lazy Ike's for my last fishing trip. I could not get them to submerge, they just skimmed the top of the water. I had them tied directly to the line with no quick disconnect or swivels. Any ideas as to what I was doing wrong??
  5. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to this site. There sure is a lot of good info
  6. I am new to this web site. I do agree with Smokinal, not to get the bargain basement baitcaster. I have two, a Shimano Chronarch and a Shimano Curado, both on Shimano Compre 7 foot rods. The Chronarch was my first and I have owned it for probably close to 15 years. I spent a lot of time in the driveway practicing back then. I think they are a lot more fun casting than my other reels. But, I still birdnest them on pretty much every trip, especially when fishing from a canoe or kayak.
  7. Howdy from Virginia. I mostly fish local retention ponds most of the time. Also get out and fish the rivers in the western part of Virginia once or twice a month. Looking forward to picking up a lot of good info from everyone.
  8. Most of my fly fishing is done in shallower water from a kayak, canoe, or the bank. So I prefer the Clouser minnow on a furled leader, cast, let it sink a bit, then start my retrieve, pull in about 12 inches of line, pause, then repeat. Nice fish in the avatar!
