Fishing The Lazy Ike Questions

Featured Replies

I picked a few of the Lazy Ike's for my last fishing trip.

I could not get them to submerge, they just skimmed the top of the water.

I had them tied directly to the line with no quick disconnect or swivels. Any ideas as to what I was doing wrong??

The Lazy Ike - An Oldie one but a Good one.

That's one bait that really could benefit from being connected with a small clip or at the very least, use a loop knot.

I've never heard of these but the look a lot like a flatfish/quikfish. Do they have the same kind of action? I've got a bunch of Flatfish but never really put much time into them.

I still have 2 of these from a LOOOONG time ago. I dont remember having any issues with them. But as a kid i used a snap for everything.

I had a kit with 6 of them in it that was given to me by a friend that saw them in a BPS catalog and purchased them for me as a gift. I put them in my box but mainly just to be nice but I found out from a friend that they are pretty deadly for river smallmouth. Well I did try them and they worked fantastic when the fish really weren't chasing you could throw on a lazy ike and just reel slow and steady and you would catch fish. The ones I had were like 3" long and weighed 1/4oz and a duo lock snap would be recommended but if it won't dive down check to make sure the line tie is straight, mine would sometimes get turned a little and it didn't swim right when that happened.

The neighborhood kids were sneaking into the reservoir at my old house.

They were using a gold color lazy ike and killing the bass on it.

I'm going to have to paint some up.

Love that bait. I can connect a clip swivel and still get the same action. They work best with a couple cranks and dead stick it. Great tight wobble.

Now I think they are floaters so you might not be getting the right placement in the water. Maybe a line is stuck on the treble? Other than that I couldn't see why it isn't working? Even with the pole held high they still dive.

Thanks for the info. I will try a clip and see how that works and do a some practice. I hope to get out a bit today for some retention pond fishing.

I had also heard they were awesome for river smallies. I am hoping the weather cooperates and I can squeeze in a river trip this coming weekend and see what might happen.
