Curious about fishing in Ontario?
I'm more of a river rat myself but a few that I've heard good things about are Rice Lake, Lake Nipissing, Kawarthas and of course Lake St. Clair.

Lew's making Noise
I have the same issue with two of my Speed Spools (posted a thread on here about it) and I have not fixed the problem. I tried contacting Lews to see if they would sell me a new set of gears but I have come up empty handed. For me it started after about a year of use and is really annoying in my opinion. Thing is, I have a Tournament Pro G by Lews as well and I have zero issues with gear noise. I asked Lews if they use different alloys for their higher end reels and they told me they're all the same gears in their casting reels. I find this hard to believe since there's clear visible differences in the gears (very shiny brass in Speed Spool and more of a matte finish gear in the Tournament Pro) and my Tournament has lasted longer without wear. I have flushed all spool bearings and made sure everything is cleaned and greased well and the noise still persists. I will definitely be following this post in hopes of a fix, even though I'm sure a gear swap would fix this as my two Speed Spools were smooth when I got them. Just sucks that they have become this way, in my experience at least. I have OCD when it comes to my fishing reels.

Which hand retrieve ?
I cast with my right and reel with my right. I switch up hands while the lure is still in the air. Why do I do this? No clue really, I imagine this is how I first started casting and it's stuck with me since. I've tried using left hand reels but I just can't get the hang of it

Rough feeling reel. NEED HELP/ADVICE
Thanks for the input guys. I will definitely take a look at the gear teeth under a bright light as this is what I think the problem may be. Most of my fishing buddies just say I'm OCD with my reels but I keep telling them they're wrong. I have also e-mailed Lews to see what they can do for me regarding a set of gears. Not sure if they use a different metal or metal alloy on their higher end reels gears or not but I just find it odd how my Tournament Pro is still like new while my cheaper Speed Spools are both experiencing this problem, I guess this could fall under the "pay for quality" category. Also are the gears supposed to feel sharp or smooth on the ends? I am asking because the main drive gear feels smooth (almost sanded flat on the top of the teeth, if i'm describing this correctly) whereas the pinion has quite sharp teeth on it.

Rough feeling reel. NEED HELP/ADVICE
Yes, i have put them back together correctly, they are great for maybe 2 days of fishing then they go back to feeling rough. I have tried many types of grease on them hoping to fix the problem from, Abu Reel Lube, Yamaha Blue grease, marine grade grease for outboard engine gears, Molybendum grease and all have had the same results. The only thing that makes sense to me, is my gears are worn. I just find this hard to believe because my other Lews reel is silky smooth. Yes it is a different model (Tournament Pro G) but the internals are basically the same with the acception of carbon drag and different gear ratio.

Rough feeling reel. NEED HELP/ADVICE
Hey guys, I want to start by saying I have done many of my own reels already with excellent results and right now this reel has me stumped. I bet all my Northern brethren are getting ready to do what I am doing or have already done it, but that is a deep reel cleaning. So far I have done my Shimano Citica, Daiwa Fuego and Lews TPG. I am in the process of putting my two Speed Spool LFS reels back together and have come across both reels being rough/geary. Yes I have greased the gears and No I have not over greased it, for some reason no matter what I do these two reels feel rough and all my others feel smooth as butter, same with the Lews TPG. Now I have had these reels for a little over a year now and use them quite frequently (2 or 3 times a week) when I can. Would it be possible that the gear teeth have already worn out?! After lubing one of the reels in question it feels buttery smooth for about 2 outings before the geary/rough feeling comes back. Now I know you shouldn't have to re-lube your gears every other time you go fishing. That would just get annoying and my 3 other reels do not have this problem and can go months without re-lubrication. So I am hoping you guys have some suggestions or better yet fixes that will help me out. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Fav Shallow Crankbaits?
Like most have said, you cant go wrong with the KVD 1.5 or Manns 1 Minus. I've also been having luck on Bomber Square A's, Bagley's B2, a 6th Sense bait I cant remember the name of (Crush 65?). Picked up some ima baits that were on sale that I've never seen before called a BT-a 80SR, they claim to be a super shallow runner so I cant wait to try these out on the river.

74 Year old Jitterbug
Anyone heard of an "Atlantic's Frantic Antic"? Got one of these off my grandfather and they look identical to a Jitterbug despite being made by Atlantic rather than Arbogast

plastic storage. you honest opinion
I have two, two tiered tackle boxes (Plano 3700 Guide Series I believe). One for hard baits and the other for jigs and plastics. I keep my most used plastics that aren't heavily scented in the box and ones that are I keep in their original bag and put them in a pouch on my tackle bag. I haven't had problems with baits drying out either

Most versatile crankin' rod
I just got myself a Dobyns Fury 705CB just before we got hard water and from the little bit of testing I've put it through I can see it being a great rod. Its my first "cranking" rod but i only ever carry one baitcaster and one spinning rod when I fish so versatility is key. I'd definitely check out some of their rods if your not set on a BPS Crankin' Stick.
- Quality snap recomendations please??

Help needed cleaning bearings
Hey guys, this isn't the first time I've cleaned my bearings but it is the first time I've tried cleaning them with acetone. I am kind of weary doing this because I was always told that acetone melts plastic but is hard to beat as a solvent. I have a Lews LFS that I will be cleaning and am wondering if I will be good using acetone on the bearings, I don't want to ruin them by having the bearing casings just melt into a goo. If you guys have any alternatives that I could use if this is unsafe for bearings that would be great! Thanks!

Braided line smallies
nope, never had an issue while flipping the line. As long as you make sure its spooled on tight you shouldn't have any problems
-
Braided line smallies
I use 832 on all my reels except for one I wanted to try Power Pro on and found it to be much louder on my guides than the 832. I also use a flouro leader on my spinning reels but just use straight braid on my casting reels. I try to check my line every couple of casts for frays and cuts but when the bites on I think we can all agree that goes out the window. Also one thing I do when my line gets really faded I just re-spool the line with the faded bit tied to the spool and you have brand new line!

How do you find the big smallies?
I experience the same type of thing on my local river in the summer (not as many fish though) and it try to use bigger baits to target the big ones, even though you get a few over aggressive dinks swiping at a lure thats bigger than them. Also underwater trees are sure to hold some bigger ones in my experience.

Rod Action For Jigs.
I'm in South Western Ontario myself and probably fish the same conditions as you and I use a Medium Fast Shimano Sellus worm and jig rod and mainly use 3/8-1/2oz jigs.

Need Help Choosing A Cranking Rod
Hey guys, so I want to get a dedicated cranking setup and have 2 rods in mind. I use shallow to mid depth (~12ft) cranks ranging from 1/4 - 3/4oz. The two rods I am looking at is the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Winch in 7ft Med/Mod or the *** *** Black 2 Crankbait rod in 7ft Mod. Now I have the first gen *** and love it but I haven't heard too much about this rod in particular and I've heard nothing but good things about the Abu rod. So I'd like your guys opinion on which you think would best suit the task. Thanks!

Need Tips For Fishing River
I usually try to keep them between 3.5" and 4.5" and go with whatever company is on sale at the time. Currently I am using the Trigger X tubes and I really like them. As for colours I always use a green pumpkin type and a black with red fleck has never let me down.
