Using Live Bait for Smallies
while i dont fish live bait more then once a year i dont have any qualms with those who do, as mentioned not every live bait fisherman throws out a minnow under a float. there are some very in depth means of using live bait to target large fish when i feel the urge to target large fish i have bought 8-12 inch trout to get the job done. personally i find targeting large fish with these live baits to involve more technique and approach then throwing a topwater frog through lily pads or slinging a senko i find nothing wrong with any manner that people fish as long as its lawful, but to believe that live bait fishing is nothing more then just throwing a minnow under a float is naive

Another monster bass from Japan
bass-brat your right it could just be a rumor however at such a high level college class it would be quite a risk to fabricate such information on how animals can be trained to respond to human behavior not saying its definitely true though just thought i would post it in case anyone else had any information on this or at least a story as to how the fish was truly caught

Another monster bass from Japan
funny to see this picture a kid in my class just used it in his presentation friday, according to him this angler trained the bass for 6 months by feeding them very heavily only as he revved his engine so the bass would come screaming in as he revved the engine looking to feed..... don't know where he got this information from or if it is definitely true but i thought i would mention it...not taking anything away from such a majestic fish just unfortunate how it was caught if this is true

how often do you lose baits
from reading your response that your line is often times breaking at the spool i would have to say your problem lies in the reel, most likely you have something that the line is catching on and breaking first thing i would do is give the reel spool a good look over if it isn't your reel i would suggest changing lines, i know throwing light mono through cover it will develop nicks in the line which eventually break under pressure. make sure you are checking your line from time to time if that might be the case. i personally got tired of doing this and switched to braid with a mono leader which is much easier to check. nothing ruins my day more then loosing a nice fish due to equipment malfunctions which seems to be your problem

new spinning setup need rod suggestions
Saturday i managed to break my spinning reel and decided to treat myself to a whole new spinning setup i have pretty much decided i will be getting the Shimano Stradic CI4 but i am drawing a huge blank with what rod to match it up with so im looking for any suggestions i will be using this rod 99% for largemouth and smallmouth both in the river and lake, my main baits i plan on using are finesse worms, soft plastics, and topwater walking baits. however at the end of summer i always go on a pike fishing trip which i would also like to use this setup for, i was thinking a nice 6'6''-7' M rod any suggestions? i am trying to keep the rod around $200 but will spend $300 if needed
