I ended up using the mounting bracket. I mounted it next to my skeg using "water-weld" and strong zip ties. It seems solid, I used it all weekend with no problems. Now my only problem is learning how to read this friggen thing. Could anyone point me in the direction of fishfinder 101? ;D

You can bring your boat and load in right at the campground. They have a fueling station and reservable docks. There's plenty of trailer parking. You can even rent a cottage for $80 a night. Cottage 1 is right on the beach. We were aiming for it but it was already booked. The lake is absolutely beautiful. I didn't have much sucess fishing wise because I was in awe with my new (and first) fish finder - that and the views are amazing. We saw 9 moose, 2 racoons, 1 beaver, and 1 deer this weekend. Umbagog is my new favorite place on the planet. We had a blast and we strongly recommend it to anyone. It was an amazing, unforgettable weekend - kid free.

Absolutely heaven. I talked to the campground today. Those remote sites sound great. I think the price hiked since last year. Its $23 I think. And its $30 something for the main campground. We will be arriving late Friday night, so I think for the first night we will stay in the main camp and Saturday night at a remote site. How is the fishing up there? The only species I can find for Umbagog is Smallmouth, Pickerel, and Northern Pike.

Yes, the transducer is quite large. It almost looks like a fuzzbuster (radar detector) - its about the same size. It has to be submerged in water to work, so inside the boat won't work. I'm thinking of zip-tying the mounting bracket to the bottom of the trolling motor, next to the skeg as bassin' suggested. I don't have any other way of mounting it. I doubt I can get away with putting small self tapping screws into the trolling motor. I also have this stuff called water-weld. Its pretty rugged.

Mounting on the floor of my canoe? That's not a bad idea. But I think the trolling motor is a good idea if it doesn't affect its performance. I guess I can try both. I'm hoping to land some big northern pike! Thanks for the tips.

I'm putting it in my canoe. I was told that mounting the transducer on my trolling motor is not a good idea because it will pick up unnecessary vibrations. This transducer is huge! It even has its own mounting bracket. I can't imagine mounting it on the bottom of my canoe - it will break! Where should I put this thing? The trolling motor would be the safest and easiest for me. Any thoughts? Much appreciated!

That's weird that you say that, Umbagog is actually on my list of possibilities! Is it good fishing?

Does anyone on here know of any good lakes or rivers that are good for canoeing and camping?

Its been a very long time since I've done the Saco River. My wife and I have this coming weekend to ourselves (NO KIDS!) And we also will have alot of money to spend. And this is also the last weekend we will get to enjoy before she goes in for knee surgery. So, the Saco it is. We will be departing our home on Friday evening and are looking to return home by Sunday afternoon. Does anyone have any suggestions for load and unload locations?

NH Fish and Game doesn't stock them. I know of several different spots in my area (Dover area) that are great for hornedpouting. The Islinglass and Salmon Falls rivers both provide excellent numbers. I use light equipment so you can feel when they "tap" it, and then a light hook set. There is atleast 6 ponds within 10 minutes from me that are great for hornedpouting. How do they taste anyway? They are quite ugly, but I've heard they taste good.

you tube, great idea. We both bought Quantums. Hers is the Artemis, mine is the Aura. On the left side, there's a dial, with numbers, I'm assuming is the drag. On the right side, at the crank arm, there's a bigger dial which seems to tighten or loosen the tention of the crank arm. Also on the right side is a smaller round dial which I am assuming is the brake. I'll definately do some homework. Thanks! PS We ALWAYS bring our spinning set-ups because, yes, it does get frustrating peeling off 100 yards of line and reeling it all back on, just for it to happen again. Lol

My wife and I just purchased some nice baitcast set-ups, but aren't too familiar with them. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Ah, I never thought of that one. Two 200 HP's equal 400HP which is too much HP for one engine. I'm now thinking of just switching from a fiberglass tri-hull, which is very heavy, to an aluminum deep-v. That should gain me some speed, and save me some gas. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Went back to Baxter Lake this morning. Landed 3 nice ones, 3-4 pounders. 2 were caught on a shad-rap in shallows, the other was caught on a 1 dollar spinnerbait in 10 ft. (which works better than my 8 dollar spinnerbait) All beds were empty I followed a 3 pounder cruising shallows but he didn't seem interested in anything I threw at him. I really need a fish finder. I'm fairly certain it would make for a more eventful day. I should make the investment. Seriously though, those Walmart 1 dollar spinnerbaits work great. The blades rarely get caught up. We plan on going out again on Sunday, and may even do some night fishing. We were thinking of Ossipee or Winni. Any recommendations?
