  1. My PB was last August during the full moon. It was about 1:00am, the water was dead calm and the sky was crystal clear. I was throwing a topwater popper. The Astro Tables rated that day a 90. Which is as high a rating as I have ever seen. I made a point to go out late when the moon was high. It paid off. She was just shy of 7lbs. and put up a memorable fight.
  2. #1 Black/Blue Flake #2 Watermelon/Black Flake
  3. I am a contractor and use IronClad or CLC high dexterity work gloves for woodworking. They are thin and sensitive enough that I can pick up small screws and nails. I have been using them for fishing too. They run about $20 at Home Depot. I don't think you will be able to tie intricate knots with them on but I can tie a simple palomar with no problem. They also have fingerless models..... http://www.shoplocal.com/shoplocal/lid-2096287089prid-99839_-clc-handyman-medium-work-gloves.fp http://www.utilitysafeguard.com/s.nl/sc.27/category.4127/.f
  4. Recreational fishing for now. I would like to join a club and try fishing in tournaments. I am lucky enough to live on a lake, plus there are dozens of lakes and ponds in my area. So I try to fish every day. I must say that I have loved fishing for over 25 years and I hope that I never get burned out to the point I have to stop. Even when I don't catch anything I still enjoy it! ;D
  5. Try a Zara Spook if you see bait fish running on top. Wacky wormin' is alway a good bet...... Good Luck!
  6. The one thing that has made me better recently is focusing on my technique rather than thinking about if I am using the right color, shape, brand, weight, pro endorsed, scented, trophy winning, bleeding neon rattlin' glowstick etc.... For the past few months I put the bait monkey in serious restraints. I decided to just use my several standard go to baits and really try to refine each technique. I have spent hours in shallow clear water watching actions and re-actions of baits. How they bounce off structure or are dragged, twitched and stopped on a rock pile. Actually paying attention to retrieve speed, line tension, the flex of the rod tip, vibration through the blank...... Ultimately I learned how my baits feel and what they look like in action. I've built more confidence in each because I can envision what a lure is doing even though I can't see it. I am actually "feeling it". For me, changing my attitude and approach, then getting back to the basics has been the one thing that made me better this year.
  7. Hello, I have been using the 8.5" x 11" Shimano Monster worm binder for my soft plastics. It zips closed and has storage pockets for hooks, weights and other terminal tackle. I leave the plastics in their original bags and put them in the zip bags in the binder. Everything is easy to see and find. I like it a lot and it is real easy to organize. It also came with extra bags. I think Shimano changed the name to Baraja Tackle binder. I also found the 2006 Shimano gear catalog online.... http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/fish/sac/us/en/customer_service/2005_catalogs.-MainContent-0004-DownloadFile.tmp/Shimano_Gear06.pdf.pdf Good luck!
  8. Don't forget about shadows that can be cast by a point. A shadow line in the water coming off a deep point is a great line to cast along.....
  9. That sounds like a "Stump Chump" to me. I think the Stump Hump is on that "Girls Gone Grabblin' " tape.....has anyone watched that?
  10. I have been using Google Maps and switch it to the satellite image. http://maps.google.com/ I tried to use Google Earth and always ran into problems.
  11. Hello fellow anglers...... I got a brand new Smartcast RF20 for $50 at a yard sale in June. This is the model that mounts to your rod. I put it on a MH Baitcast set up and used it at several small nearby lakes and the lake I live on. I generally canoe or kayak fish and sometimes wade so portabilty is the key. As far as performance- You definately have to reel slow and keep the receiver pointed at the sensor. Also, if there is a little chop it will give false reads or stall out until the sensor stabilizes. I like to use it as a general guide to find depth and structure and then use a crank or weighted plastic to "feel" for structure. Overall I thought it worked fairly well. As a matter of fact I have located structure and creek beds I never knew exisited and structure in places I never thought would hold fish. I can actually back that claim up because I snorkeled down and visually verified sunken row boats, trees, logs, rock piles and creek channels that showed up on that tiny little screen. I would vouch for the accuracy of my RF20 up to 35' because that is about all I can free dive to. I am not sure if it is worth the $100+ retail price. I personally find it useful in my style of fishing. And it has definately improved my catch rate. Maybe you you get one cheap on ebay........... Aslo.....I can not honestly say the fish alarm works but have hooked keepers casting to the depths it shows fish.......
