  1. Awesome! thanks for sharing
  2. Very nice fish
  3. Club tourny this weekend at the Holeylands: Winning bag was a measly 6lbs. Most bags were between 2.5 and 4lb (mine included). Big fish a whooping 3lbs. Heavy pumping continues out there.... I caught plenty of dinks in the pads, but obviously nothing of size. Time for some lake fishing.....
  4. I just talked to a buddy who told me that he caught a 8lb bass today at the holeylands. He was fishing the east canal. Look for running water. Did he give you anymore specific info. Lures, depth, time of day.. anything else. Did he mention if the heavy pumping is still going on? Thanks that is great news coming from the Holeylands.
  5. In almost any of the canals and lakes in the Dade/Broward area. The early year freeze that we had pretty much eradicated them north of Broward. Great fish, Sqhertz. Gotta love catching them on top. It's still tough to find them in Broward at this point. That freeze did a number on them. I remember seeing a bunch of them and those sucker fish (I don't know the real name) floating after that cold snap.
  6. Now there's a tourny I could keep up in.. cool concept
  7. let us know how it went.....
  8. Now that makes more sense to me thanks
  9. I'll just have to take your word on this one... Thanks
  10. Can someone please explain "contrast" to me. I would think bright or more visible colors would be more "contrast" at night than black. Why would black be good at night as opposed to white? Are you saying black is more visible in the dark than white? I hear this said all the time it doesn't make sense to me. Thanks
  11. Your wasting your time.... anyone under the age of twenty-five can only be reached by text, facebook, or myspace. And everything must be written in slang ( ex: how r u? tru dat), otherwise it will not be fully comprehended. And if your trying to tell this generation they are not entitled to anything and everything they desire, you will meet much resistance. Hard work... another dying American tradition.
  12. Pattern changed and you didn't..... What worked yesterday doesn't always work today
  13. You seem to be experiencing the same trend as everyone else in S FL. Slow days with less bites, less catches, more dinks and an occasional nice one thrown in. Fall can't get here soon enough...
  14. Many kids today (and adult anglers as well) would not recognize the snakehead as an exotic fish. These and other exotics have been in the canal system for thier entire life (or at least as long as they've been fishing), so how would they know any different? Honestly I have not seen these snakeheads yet, and would not know to kill them if not for reading up on this website. How do we educate new anglers about this? I don't know the answer to that. Perhaps a mandatory fishing seminar when you receive your first fishing license? Anybody can get a license for $17 at BPS and think that's all they need to do, they still have no concept of native vs non-native, catch limits, etc. Shock treating the canal system may work, but it would never fly... Some group proclaiming rights for the canal fish of Florida would come out of the woodworks. Just like everything else there will be no action taken to prevent the spread, only a haphazard and halfassed reaction. I commend you guys for your efforts, but feel ultimately you are fighting a losing battle. Unless you get support from state agencies (and not just a line on their website saying to kill snakeheads) you will have a very tough time containing/ eliminating the problem.
  15. The water is very high right now, there has been a lot of pumping recently which I'm sure is making it worse. When the water gets that high it's nearly impossible to locate fish, they are literally spread out everywhere in the glades. I'll be avoiding Sawgrass and other areas that have as much access to the flats for a while. There are some canals with levees on both sides and limited flats access which to me would keep more fish in the canals and catchable areas. The best place to fish right now has got to be residential lakes accessable with small boats only.
  16. I have fished Holeylands and Sawgrass over the past 2 weeks. Bite has still been slow at both. Holeylands have been doing some very heavy pumping making fishing even harder. I am still catching decent numbers but nothing of size to report. Biggest in last two weeks was maybe 2.5lbs. Haven't heard much better reports from anyone else fishing my areas.....
  17. Yes the Snakeheads are here but we can slow down the spread, if we can keep the main breeding population in the canal system they are in I would consider this a success for the recreational fishing community. If we do not try to control it now by keeping the population small and contained they will find their way into the glades and since that canal system in all connected they will eventually get to the Lake since they can tolerate colder temperatures and I do not think anyone wants that to happen. Yes I know Peacocks were introduced by FWC but they were only introduced to certain bodies of water in Dade County where they could not spread throughout South Florida. They spread with a little help from anglers catching in Dade and releasing them in our canal systems in Broward because they are fun to catch and they did not want to drive to Miami :,Which is the problem FWC is fearing with Snakeheads, they have explosive strikes and are easy to catch, very similar to a Peacock bass. For example I was fishing the other day and bumped into a guy I thought was fishing for catfish and he saw the snakehead in the bucket I was carrying with me and asked me what I was doing with it, told him that we are not supposed to release them because they are a invasive species. The guy responded and said that is not true FWC does not say to kill them, which is true but they do recommend that you do not release them. Long story short the guy was not happy with me keeping the fish because that was his recreational fish he likes to catch and release. I see a problem with that I hope you do as well. We as responsible anglers concerned about out fishery should not be promoting the catch and release of any invasive species, if you have a problem killing a fish I think you should find another sport because not every fish you catch will survive the stress of being caught anyway. I do not have any scientific data to back this up, but I do have 30 years of fishing South Florida waters. It has been about 10 years since I have caught a bass over ten pounds south of the lake, and rarely do you here about it anymore why do you think that is? We do not have enough forage fish in our waters to support it. Yes they will eat each other fry but peacocks and Snakes grow twice as fast therefore outcompeting Largemouth bass? When was the last time you saw schooling shad in the canals in Broward? I do not remember the year but it was shortly after I caught my first Peacock bass. Why do think California, Georgia, NC, and TX have such huge bass on a regular basis? The lakes are stocked with trout!!! If FWC wants to do something to get South Florida back in the game they should be releasing forage fish back into system in mass quantities and I guarantee we will start seeing massive bass pulled out of South Florida once again making South Florida the #1 place in the country to catch a bass over ten pounds again. Well said..... I tend to agree with you on this issue. South Florida has really lost it's big fish appeal
  18. Heat stroke one day............ back fishing the next, you have a problem my friend
  19. Dang SoFla, not sure if you had a good day or a bad day?? I know it's been a few months since I had a day that productive though.. I'm thinking a night trip might be in order at this point. Maybe Sunday night, I'll let you guys know if I have any luck
  20. Awesome fish man! I think your 7lb estimate sounds good... but what the hell do I know I've never caught a 7lb bass :-/
  21. Whats the latest guys? I fished Lox last week and caught about 8 fish ranging from 1-2.5lb. Fished the Holeylands on Tuesday and caught 5 dinks in four hours fishing. Is anybody catching anything of size??? Or are we doomed til the temps drop.... Are the fish losing weight from the summer heat or is it just me?
  22. 3 things come to mind: 1. Make sure your seting up your baitcaster correctly for each bait your casting. A spinner needs to be set up differently than a senko, unless of course they weigh exactly the same. 2. Get a spinner rod and reel. They are much easier to learn on and much more forgiving. I understand what a tight budget is all about, but you can find a good usable combo for about fifty bucks. 3. Remember always; A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. That should put it into perspective for you. Stick with it my friend and good luck
  23. May not be addictied to fishing, But the gear 8-) Your a perfect example of my point, a 15 year old hooked on fishing. A much better hobby than alcohol, drugs, geting in trouble, or just ticking me off in general. I have a feeling you'll go a long way. You should thank the person who got you into fishing...
